Trust me I used to be a loyal Toyota fanboy not anymore. Toyota better lookout. My Santa Fe is far better than any Toyota that I’ve ever owned! The Santa Fe is much quieter than the Highlander. The tech and the standard features leave Toyota in the dust. If I was Toyota, I would be very worried. Yes I’m aware of the issues with the 2.5 turbo with the transmission. That’s why I bought the hybrid instead. Just went on a 3000 mile road trip, zero issues with my 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL, all-wheel-drive hybrid! Highly recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a few efficient third row SUV.

Zack, I have a 2023 Hylander Hybrid Platinum that I drove from southern Ontario to PEI and back and I averaged 41 MPG all the way there AND back. I was shocked about the return trip given I was more or less going against the wind. Excellent fuel mileage however I also decided on the first day to always use premium fuel and now that I’ve had time to try it, I will always use premium. I get about another 100kms out of it per fuel up.
Just to get things clear: this SUV won't be exhilarating with immense horsepowers, it won't have the coolest gadgets nor technologies. However, it will be practical, it will never leave you stranded, and it will last for you your kids, even grandchildren as long as you take care of it.
It is a nice product with excellent efficiency, but very hard to find in Canada, and requires you to wait years for delivery in some cases. Also have to factor in the high theft rate and likely high insurance cost as a result.
Yes, I am in Ontario and was quoted $3888 for insurance annually on a 2024 Highlander Hybrid Limited. As a comparison I currently pay $1500 for a 2018 Nissan Murano (yes older and less expensive but….) Highlander is one of the top “high theft vehicles”, so once you get one, you need to worry about keeping it!

Hi Zack and Andrea I love the highlander and I got the grande highlander and that is a family hauler and my wife has the Venza. My rogue broke down last week when I am going to work so I driven her Venza first then like 100 miles to work and home and I could feel the difference in speed and comfort to everything vs the stinking Rogue I got. I am tempted to dump the crappy Rogue and get another Venza for myself but what other comparable to a Venza since Toyota is discontinued it and the Signia is very expensive. Thanks guys
My wife and I are in our seventies and love the 2024 Highlander Hybrid Limited. The size is just right for us and the gas mileage is top notch. Our Florida trip from Michigan averaged 37.8 with a smooth ride and fully loaded traveling through the Appalachian mountains. But, with 3 grandchildren that’s are growing fast, the third seat could be a problem as being too small in the next year or so. Btw, the stereo is great and manuverability is excellent.
@@magnoliap5824 Yes I know, my point is there was also a V6 option until it was sadly dropped in 2023. Now it’s only 4 bangers and they’re simply not as silky smooth as the V6 was, and sounds terrible compared to a V6! But if you’re not a gearhead I guess it doesn’t matter!
@@francoisw Yeah, most people who buy these aren't. I drove the RAV4 Hybrid and the noise level was totally fine under normal acceleration, even quieter at certain speeds, and the sound itself wasn't raspy. V6 Honda is rated at 19/25 mpg which really just means 19 while the Highlander Hybrid is rated at 35/35 mpg. When gas is 1.649 per L in Calgary and 10-30c higher everywhere else, the fuel savings really add up, especially for families with kids and all those expenses
Hi Guy's and good morning !!, The Highlander is it the same as RAV4 ?, because they look alike . I like the content thank you and have a wonderful day.
Huge Toyota:Lexus fan but I don’t like what dealerships are doing with predatory sales tactics. When we get out fleet vehicles, Toyota dealerships in Vancouver will be crying like hyenas when all their loyal customers went elsewhere 😅😅
It is crazy out there. People are waiting years and years for delivery on certain Toyota products, particularly the hybrid or PHEV models. Plus like you say, the typical dealer shenanigans as always. You even see people trying to flip near new Toyota Primes for a $10,000 profit (plus the Gov't rebates they collected). Or dealers doing the same thing with "demo" units. A colleague at work was waiting to replace her Rogue with a RAV4 Hybrid. After 14 months of waiting she just went and bought an Outlander PHEV instead. I am currently waiting for a Prius. Might go with a Civic Hybrid instead. It feels like the lack of inventory is artificially being created to increase profit and demand. I have no loyalty to any brand, so I might just end up walking over to Honda.
Great review guys! Yes the continuing middle row business is vexing. Edit: As the owner of an only slightly smaller previous gen '19 Highlander, but having tested the Grand Highlander for a friend recently, I can vouch that they are two entirely different vehicles....intended for different customers (though there may have been some initial stealing by GH of sales). The GL is nice but more vehicle, in all ways Zack and Andrea have mentioned, than a lot of people (will admit they) need. The continuation of the dash shelf, one of my favorite interior features similar to my (-19) generation's, is smart - so useful. While I don't disagree that, otherwise, the interior / dash needs updating, I hope they don't screw it all up with a cockamamie "alternative" shifter. Ed. 2 - I also agree, the Signia is more a slightly raised wagon, which as a wagon lover I appreciate both the looks and concept of. Only 2 inches longer than the Camry sedan, it is the Camry wagon a number of us have been calling for, given more the mild "Mercedes All-Terrain" treatment than the jacked Outback. While it may also steal a few H sales, being the shiny new toy, and especially by people who *never-ever* use a third row, I think it will have its own niche that ultimately won't threaten an especially updated Highlander.
C'mon Andrea and Zack, we're Canadian, so pronounce names as we do in Canada. Our American friends, as well as others around the world will understand, and by doing so it will give your videos a true Canuck Experience. Santa Fe and Sorento have much better interiors and tech and are 10k cheaper. People who go straight to Toyota for the badge without considering the competition baffle me
I'll take reliability over acreage of screens on the dash. And yes I know about Toyota is replacing 100K engines but you know what, they are doing a full replacement without some half-ass fix.
@Revoncheap I had a 2016 Highlander Limited, and my parents still have a 2022 Highlander Platinum, both with panoramic roofs. Sorry, I don't agree with that RUclipsr's opinion. Toyota makes a great panoramic roof, as do other manufacturers.
@labradachig1976 LOL, glad you're enjoying your 2005 Highlander with a whole cut in the roof as they didn't have panoramic roofs back then. Please keep comments relevant.
You two drove the entire time with the middle seat dome light on. The two front rows have enough legroom for a 6 foot 4 kid to sit with his legs almost trailer out and have plenty of legroom in the seat ahead / behind that another 6 foot 4 adult or kid can sit there and “ stretch out “. The one “ bad thing “ about the seating is that the front passenger seat has no provision to lower the seat. That 6 foot 4 kid in that seat is very close to the headliner. We had a 2011 Sienna base model and it had an easy to use manual lever on the side that moved the seat up or down a few inches. That wouldn’t break the bank. Two or three easy pumps and you have all the headroom you need. Isn’t this hybrid the same as the one in the Lexus equivalent model but only 245 hp versus 265 in the Lexus? We have a 2017 Highlander XLE and I wish we had gone for the hybrid i love it. This one still gets 30-31.5 mp imperial gallon on the Highway ( and that’s at 7 years old. Our Sirius Xm no longer stays logged on but Toyota still has a CD in that one and I still have a small collection. Is the 35 mpg for this model in US gallons? If it is, that’s terrific for a vehicle this size and weight. By the way you two are great.
Toyota should start offering middle bench seat option for higher trims (Limited) like Honda. Otherwise, it is a big 4 seater with 3 occasional back seats for small kids.
I wouldn't call such an enormous car mid size. Mid size is VW Tiguan (European) with a length of 4539 mm. Perhaps we have different view of size in Europe and North America?
Highlander XLE vs Grand Highlander XLE have certain differences regarding features. To me, the lack of sunroof in the Grand Highlander is a dealbreaker…
Its a great car and does what it was designed to do very well. However, you will probably never get a base model so mid 50's to low 60's CND, wow thats getting really expensive. Might partially explain why people are keeping there current cars longer and longer, I think the average now is 13yrs...
I’m stuck between “costs less upfront, way more tech, but questionable quality” Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy or “boring, but gas efficient, ol’ reliable” Highlander hybrid. Good to know about the Limited and up options only. 🤦🏽♀️ Toyota isn’t even trying anymore because they know they have their name. But I see more and more Toyota loyalists jumping ship for brands that are KNOWN to have issues just because they get more for less even if it’s just in the short term. I have a pre-approved check for a loan and I’m trying to decide who to give it to.
I would buy the next 2025 Highlander if they remodel the interior and exterior ...rn it looks hedious. Look at the front facia and the front console no looks and appeal at all
Please keep hammering on Toyota for not having a bench seat available on higher trim levels. Also, the dash is needlessly ugly. Bad design relative to competitors.
Wanted to buy another Toyota product, but the dealerships are gouging customers for well over msrp. Well, within the next year sales will go down in the usa because of the way customers are being treated. I'm boycotting their products until the manufacter makes changes at the dealerships.
Grand Highlander hybrid would be way better. Better design, better interior, more power, and more space. Toyota should just cancel Highlander or should’ve just called grand Highlander, THE HIGHLANDER, just like how santa Fe changed from 2023 to 2024
With the Grand Highlander and new Santa Fe, this vehicle has become a hard sell. Too pricey and small for a 3 row compared to competitors, including themselves. Price needs to drop in line with Santa Fe, and facelift would be good. Maybe even new model between RAV4 and Grand Highlander with a more usable 3rd row like the Santa Fe. The tiny 3rd row makes it unusable that it's basically a longer 2 row.

Yes, Toyota "older" screens are not as flashy, and most of their interiors are pretty boring, but all those Hyundai electronic gadgets and their overall reliability long term will get you every time...
Kia twins and their turbo 1.6 are unreliable motors. They offer 10 yr 100,000 warranties but if u miss any scheduled maintenance they void your warranty. So weak motors n weak dependability. Mitsubishi.. dealers are few and far between. Mazda motor might be ok but that transmission shifts like its handicap! So Toyota for the win…
Hybrid has a different transmission. Also, the DCT issues were resolved with a software update recall. You may have also noticed Toyota just recalled over 100,000 Tundras and Lexus' for complete engine replacements (big ouch). Recalls happen, even to Toyota.

Toyota doesn’t state torque numbers for the smaller vehicles with hybrids powertrain, but strange enough they do for the Tacoma and Tundra hybrids.
Question: have you heard byd May be coming to Canada? If that happens you guys are gona get a lot of affordable evs
I wouldn't call such an enormous car mid size. Mid size is VW Tiguan (European) with a length of 4539 mm.
Perhaps we have different view of size in Europe and North America?
Are you aware of a 2025 highlander coming in the fall....are they still keeping this trim?
It's silly to make such redundant options. At least orient one towards soft roading or something.
I know they are similar, but I think the grand highlander is better looking.
how does the highlander's 3rd row compare to Tiguan's 3rd row... ?
Highlander XLE vs Grand Highlander XLE have certain differences regarding features. To me, the lack of sunroof in the Grand Highlander is a dealbreaker…
Can you guys review the 2025 Kia Sportage? plzzz
Will you do a story in the 102,000 Toyota engines todate that are being replaced at a cost of $30,000 each?
They should call this channel cars and mini skirts
Mini skirts that are color coordinated with the car. 😊
@@Combat556 yep
I would buy the next 2025 Highlander if they remodel the interior and exterior ...rn it looks hedious. Look at the front facia and the front console no looks and appeal at all
Please keep hammering on Toyota for not having a bench seat available on higher trim levels. Also, the dash is needlessly ugly. Bad design relative to competitors.
The Toyota hybrid is so good that Toyota is starting to buy a better one from chinese BYD
Wanted to buy another Toyota product, but the dealerships are gouging customers for well over msrp. Well, within the next year sales will go down in the usa because of the way customers are being treated. I'm boycotting their products until the manufacter makes changes at the dealerships.
I would still stay with Mazda CX 70 or CX 90 for the same price.
Not the same price! Mazda is 5 to 10 k more
The Mazda PHEV is an all new design and long-term reliability is an unknown. Toyota Hybrid technology is proven and very reliable.
Grand Highlander hybrid would be way better. Better design, better interior, more power, and more space. Toyota should just cancel Highlander or should’ve just called grand Highlander, THE HIGHLANDER, just like how santa Fe changed from 2023 to 2024
I'll take a highlander over a grand seven days a week.
Styling looks outdated
All the technology on the interior is so 10 years ago. Just obsolete. I know it’s a Toyota you will buy it because you will settle. Your money!!
this is beyond outdated....almost unsellable for the price, but people buy the brand.
Out side design is bulky bull running on the street and out dated feeling Grand Hylander is handsome like Grand Cherokee
No sense doing this video. You have to wait 3 years to get one😖
I agree. Dealerships are so rude about it too. Reminds me of realtors in 2019.
😳🤢🤮. DELIVER MINE TO ME THEN!!!!!!
I ordered a 2024 GH Hybrid LIMITED in the Ruby Red in JUNE !!!!!
What's going on? This is the THIRD Toyota we've purchased in the past decade, last being a 22 (ordered new) Tacoma we paid Cash for and love!!
Where's their LOYALTY? WHERES MY SUV? Yes, I put $500 down and will even settle for the BLUEPRINT Blue. We NEED our NEW SUV to travel, NOW!
My Fiance was dx c stage 4 cancer and I have an extremely rare, I curable disease.
All I want is my Grand Highlander..... To travel the US, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, etc.
Do I really need to start considering a Honda or a GM? Another Expedition? 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
The Toyota interior is not great
dont hyundai and kia have transmission issues lots of recalls on the dual clutch
Yes, Toyota "older" screens are not as flashy, and most of their interiors are pretty boring, but all those Hyundai electronic gadgets and their overall reliability long term will get you every time...
Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai they say. Well the Hyundai reliability isn't the best.
Compared to a new Santa Fe? The redesigned Santa Fe had serious transmission issues!!!!!
Yes the gas model but not the hybrid.
Hybrid has a different transmission. Also, the DCT issues were resolved with a software update recall. You may have also noticed Toyota just recalled over 100,000 Tundras and Lexus' for complete engine replacements (big ouch). Recalls happen, even to Toyota.
@@justingroen3235
Yes, because happen although Toyota is agreed to replace the engines Hyundai hasn’t done that and I’m probably older than you were remember when Hyundai first came out they were horrible vehicles and today they’re still not up to the excellence of Toyota Lexus
Camping gear?
Way to big of a motor if they want to save gas
2022 highlander is the strongest car ever. Very strong , reliable and the car can live forever . Hybrid and new ones after 2023 not sure since the engine is much lower
