The avatars that the singers chose are mainly for theatrics as this is a cover of the original song which was originally done using the 10 vocaloids. And to explain the story, basically, mankind offended God with the reckless expansion and pollution of the world, and to save the crumbling world, 9 people needed to be sacrificed with the one remaining, the messiah, being able to make the wish to do so. However, all but the Messiah herself actually knew the truth of the "blessings" and her friends instead, pretending to be consumed by greed and anger, sacrificed themselves to give the Messiah the chance to save the world. The Messiah herself only found out the truth once she reached the top and saw how her 9 friends were being tormented in those chambers. Once that happened, she couldn't help but give a hysterical smile at how powerless she was even as she reached out to the altar to save the world which she succeeded. For the record, there are plenty of Vocaloid songs like this that have really impressive stories and settings. This song in question is actually rather old now, from 2016. As a suggestion, I would recommend the Houkago Stride (After-School Stride) series by Last Note for another song series that actually got an anime adaptation.

The full name of the song is 祝福のメシアとアイの塔[Shukufuku no Meshia to Ai no Tou] アイ[ai] has different meanings but the most common meaning is Love or 愛[ai] So you can assume that its called the Tower of Love It can also be translated as the Tower of Encounters because アイ can also be translated into 合い[Ai] However,the final lyrics go ９つの「哀」を生みて [Kokonotsu no "Ai" wo Umite] Gave birth to 9 sorrows So in reality, this is the Tower of Sorrow 哀 is read as Ai They named it the Tower of Ai to keep it a mystery until the end of the song for those who know Japanese
