So in the video the blue girl, Miku, is the next messiah, she supposed to collect all the "blessing" and bring it to the altar. Her friends went to the Tower of Ai (where the blessings are) with her and help her through the journey. But when they reach the first "blessing" the blue man, Kaito, "steal" it from Miku. The others did the same. Feeling betrayed Miku went to the altar alone only to find out that the "blessing" isn't a blessing at all but an "atonnement". All the previous messiah must go through all the atonements (basically they had to suffer through a torture) first to save the world. Miku doesn't know about this, but her friends did. So her friends decided to "save" Miku from those torture by giving up their lives inside the room to be tortured by those atonements. That's why the tower is called Ai. Ai can means Love and also Sorrow in Japanese.

So in truth the tower is called, “Tower of Glory/Sorrow.” Obviously from what the prophecy was told was that the Messiah must go to the Tower of Ai to claim glory in her hands to save the world, but toward the end she learns that the blessing were actually sorrow. So you were right, but her friends betrayed her because they let greed enter their hearts. Cause if you remember the part where the Messiah said, “The Prophecy said the chosen one is me.” One of the other singers said, “We will not allow.” Yeah they all threw their friendship away to obtain a blessing which was later revealed to be a sacrificial ritual.
