After 5 years, this info is still valid. I am doing the opposite direction, I am arriving to Southampton cruise port , walking to the national express bus at the bus station, and taking the bus to Victoria station. thanks .......

I saw that option, I’m taking a great southwest rail train from Waterloo to Southampton main station. One hour 14 minutes one-way no traffic, plenty more personal space. I have taken 3 previous cruises out of Southampton, and absolutely love London, my favorite city in the world. I don’t trust greater London traffic, one tie up and you’re in a pickle. I’m pleased to see that you made it without any issues. I opted for first class to avoid any potential overcrowding. Nominal price difference. Happy travels!

Did you have any difficulties in prior experiences? Later this month I’ll go to Southampton too by train, same as you.

@@Usul_Muadib not at all! Quick easy & reliable. We booked a hotel near Waterloo station so we can walk there in AM. We have a 1005 train gets us to Southampton 11:17. Five min cab ride to Ocean Terminal should get there before 11:30. Boarding time is 11-3PM

      @@Usul_Muadib good afternoon from UK
I wanted to let you know, if you take the train, either take a really early train or a much later train. We took the 1005 arriving @ 1120, what a mess ! One other mega ship in port & the train was packed, and it was a madhouse at Southampton Central train station. 200 people with luggage vying for a taxi, it was ugly. Unfortunately there was no clear que to line up at. In the future if I stay in London, I'll take a 0900 train to alleviate congestion. I think your best bet is to stay at a hotel in Southampton. oh by the way, Uber is twice the price of a taxi! When I looked up an Uber from the train station it was a 15 min wait & 19£. The taxi to the much further Ocean terminal was £8.70 when we got out to pay. I was like whoa! I "assumed" the cab was far more expensive.

Thanks for that. Wish I had seen this earlier- the train was uncomfortable & hard to carry luggage.

Placing luggage is very helpful compared to the train with its small luggage overhead rack

Traveling from Milton Keynes to Southampton by public transport is no joke. By National Express we would have a one-and-a-half hour wait in London Victoria coach station. Trains are much more expensive and currently totally unreliable. We will be traveling by car and parking in the Southampton long term parking at £4 to £5 per day. Much cheaper and definitely much more convenient.

You answered my question. I am always afraid of traveling on a bus for a long period of time without a toilet. lol.

Hi ! Thanks for your helpful video, we'll be having our first cruising trip with Princess in June 2019. The port to embark the ship is Southampton's Ocean Terminal.by the way, will that be a long walk to get on the taxi upon arrival at the Southampton Coach Station ?

It looks like your backpack was larger than the free Hand Luggage size 45cm x 35cm x 20cm = 17.72" x 13.78" x 7.87". Did you have to pay extra or it was not an issue? We will be using National Express in a couple of months and my backpack is larger than the Hand Luggage size. It's not oversized just larger. Also, was it easy to get transportation to the cruise terminal and how fast was the turnaround getting off the bus to getting to the terminal? Thanks so much.

Assuming one is staying overnight in Southampton, prior to boarding the next day, which hotels would you recommend that are modern and reasonably priced? Thank you for the information.

Taking the coach arranged by Cunard from the Grosvenor Hotel I am not supposed to have another taxi ride. I paid £100 each per ticket.
