- This moderate 5km trail in County Tipperary showcases views of the Galtee Mountains and even more lush landscapes across counties Laois and Galway.
A satisfying hill walk on Devil’s Bit Mountain, this pleasant loop takes 90 minutes to complete.
The terrain is a mix of sandy laneways, forestry tracks, green roads and hillside paths. Gently ascending 200m, along the way you’ll enjoy stunning forest scenery, views south to the impressive Galtee Mountains and northward into counties Laois and Galway.
The loop swings around Little Rock - easy to spot with its mass rock, shrine and further up a white cross marking its summit. Take the short spur up to the cross on top for some spectacular views out to Lough Derg and the Slieve Blooms, and beyond to Slievenamon, the Comeragh and Knockmealdown Mountains.
Once you’ve embraced all those rugged panoramas and finished the loop, you’ll find restaurants, pubs and cafés in nearby Templemore.
Devil’s Bit Mountain is so called thanks to the legend that the devil took a bite out of the mountain, broke a tooth while doing it and that became the Rock of Cashel!
