The mother bird didn't bring food to her baby all day. Hawks are exceptional hunters, so I'm sure food was available. She finally fed her baby a stick, which it happily are, so it must have been hungry. Does anyone have an answer for why mom wasn't feeding her baby?
I don't think this happens often with Raptors. They have a strong desire to parent with most I see; this is some of the first footage I've seen of this hawk.

It's pretty easy to understand. The dead chick means food for the remaining chick. The remaining chick is happy because there's no more rivalry for food. Parents are happy with the dead chick because it saves them a hunting trip and one less mouth for them to feed.
