@@davidmccall4024 Perhaps they could have damage be localized to the player's immediate surroundings that respawns back to normal after they leave the area? So if you're in a house the tripod can shoot rays through the wall or stomp a hole in the roof but you come back to the building later and it's intact. Might break immersion slightly for damage not to be permanent but if it allows them to add destruction of an occupied shelter to the game I think it would be awesome
definitely possible, I think Unreal Engine has a built in destruction system that can optionally be used. I think this game is unity, though, but its still possible.

As a kid I would always imagine giant mountain sized monsters walking towards me from an insane distance. I’m so happy that I might be able to experience it again in video game format.
Just stumbled over this video and have to say I'm really impressed. You've nailed the sense of sheer dread being stuck in the house while the tentacles explore. The haunting sound of the Martians amplifies it even more
i’m more excited to get ahold of this than i am for any other game that will ever be made. The textures, the sounds, The AI, the cinematic feeling. UGH I NEED IT
I literally cannot wait for this to come out. Ever since I watched WotW I've envisioned a game exactly like this and this makes me so excited that someone else had the same vision I did and is actually putting it out there.
This is a movie that needed a game just like this one for almost 20 years now. Us basically going though everything that Ray (Tom Cruise) went through in the movie is both exciting and terrifying. I can't wait for this game to come out.
The new death sequence for when the Tripods get killed looks good, though I wouldn't mind seeing a possible dismemberment feature for said Tripods in the future. Like when a missile strikes a Tripod when it's shields are down, there can be chunks of the metal armor getting blown off like in the movie.
You are a legend. This is the game I’ve always wished for as a kid. Please don’t give up on the project, you have a growing cult following for a reason.
This is absolutely incredible. I mean, EVERY PART of it is, but I especially just can't get over the sound engineering. The weird pulsing sounds and walking thumps, the truly unnervingly loud mechanical "roars", and the uneasy blowing of the wind as if a major severe storm is impending; it was literally making my stomach turn in the best possible way. The terrifying sense of scale is just horrific.
I just woke up from a nightmare about war of the worlds where I also had to survive. It was honestly terrifying. But seeing this video now makes me so happy
Looking great! Loved that you Included the aliens eventually getting ill and weak at the end. I hope they're still a little bit combat effective even in that weakened state just so they aren't complete pushovers. Even if they're just shooting blindly would be fine.
IMAGINE, multiplayer with proximity chat. Your friend goes upstairs and then you hear a distant screaming that fades off. You go upstairs to check and he's gone. He gets ahold of you on a walkietalkie to say that he was abducted by one of the tripods. Man that would be SO cool!!
Actually I believe he plans to have that. There is already in game voice which the Tripods can and WILL hear. So I imagine it will be like dead before daylight and other horror games that implement stealth and hidding tactics. The noisy people will get snatched up first.
Man as a kid I was so infatuated with this movie that I was constantly drawing the tripods in different scenes, pretending I was in these scenes and trying to imagine what I would do. To think that I may be able to play a game where I literally get to play out these fantasies is just unreal. I am so excited and I know for a fact, me as a kid could simply not believe something as close to my imagination would ever come to life, so fucking excited for this!
Seeing the absolute scale and frightening aura of the Tripods and Uberpods, I can only imagine how cool and incomparably horrifying this game would be in virtual realty! Just imagine it... You find yourself lost in the forest, and hear the thumping of the tripod behind you. You look and see this absolute giant of metal and lights, so you hide in the nearest shack or building. You hide as best you can, and if there is a basement, you go into it. You wait and hide as you hear the thumps get closer and closer, until.. they suddenly stop. You think you are safe, but then hear the drone of a camera sent down to investigate the house. You end up getting found, and, with fear coursing through your veins, you sprints towards the door to find a new house or some bushes to hide in, but it is too late. You look up as you see the Tripod, towering you from multiple stories, and before you know it, you are picked up, and, well, we know what happens next...
i start running on its arm defying gravity before i leap to its head and start ripping its system out this game is gonna be easy i think idk i never watched the movie
The plan crash events are really cool in my opinion. Could be an opportunity to find loot such as weapons, food, clothes, etc. Adds a whole lot the emersion as well. Im so hyped for this game had it wish listed for over a year.
@@Rellana1while their shields are fearsome, their little arms with the actual beam move quite slowly. It would be pretty hard for the tripod to actually hit a jet, assuming they don't have other weapons like missiles.
This is REMARKABLE work. Every time an update comes out I’m always stunned at the degree of progress you guys make! You could release this now and *still* make hand over fist. But I’m glad you guys are passionate enough about it to ensure it comes out like the movie! :)
Now we just need realistic crowds of people panicking running away and getting shredded (with gore), and a little more realistic effects for when they shoot lazers, and maybe an objective (escape the area or something)
I don't think the gore would be appropriate, since the heat rays (not "lazers") just vaporize people outright. But I do agree some sort of objective system, at least for the first day, would work. It could be a sort of "soft tutorial", where you're free to ignore it or follow it as you wish, like "escape the area" for when the Tripod first attacks, but then once you get to a safe-ish point, then your character internally monologues. Something like "I need food/water/a weapon", or when nighttime falls, "I need somewhere safe to sleep", and then when you've survived the first day, "I need to find help." This would serve as a non-intrusive and natural-feeling way to teach the player the fundamentals of gameplay while still keeping in line with the sandbox core feeling of the game.
@@HelghastStalker you're right, gore wouldn't cut it, rather a similar effect as portrayed in the movie, so the laser vaporizes people. Still visual effects for explosions, fire and lasers need lots of work. They're certainly on the right track! And yes some non-invasive objective would be good!
@@KevinS47 I think they shouldn't just vaporize humans, but also maybe show where cars are melted *and* where buildings caught fire and/or collapse. The destruction needs to be a little more intense and long lasting...maybe let the heatrays leave permanent scorch marks alongside persistent destruction?
Its not gonna go anywhere, flipswitch games dev is an absolute numpty, he can't even finish pre-alpha on the first game he released over 5 years ago... the first issue is this game is being devved on unity.
This is gonna be up there as one of the best survival horror games there is. It's still in Alpha, and already looking fabulous and terrifying. The Martians could use a bit of work though.
Hey don’t call too soon! This team clearly are even bigger nerds about the movie than we ever could be, they’re the perfect hands to put this project in! It’ll have everything you can think of I’m sure.
Man, so many super tense moments in this footage. The probe in the basement was super suspenseful, followed up by the aliens actually coming in the house. Then when the heat ray blast came out of nowhere, right next to the player. This is just fantastic. Awesome work
Everything is looking really good, and I got an idea for a little adition: at the part showing the tripods getting attack, you could make them to fire burst of the heatwave in an attempt to fight back, like trying to aim but being incapable of and shoting randomly anywhere, also, while getting attack by rockets, maybe make it look like is being pushed by the impact just a bit and trying to keep balance if it's posible, other than that, all the effects are awesome, can't wait to see more of this project
multiplayer would be fun as heck, everyone playing as tripods killing stuff, or all of us running around surviving, and maybe even an option for both so you got like one of your buddies playing as one of the tripods while everyone else is running away.
This is insane!! The progress over the last few months has been so impressive and I'm so excited to see what this game can become, it could really be a true gem if it isn't already!
i read the description of the game and it says mulitplayer is a one last man standing while the tripods attempt to kill everyone i dont like that idea which means multiplayer is bad
I never imagined there could be a game that could frighten me so damn much I get physically shaken to the core. WoTW has always been a theme in most of my nightmares so this game is like those visions manifested into reality. I am absolutely horrified and excited all at once. Well done. 🤘🏻👏
the burning Tripod well corpses having internal things still blowing up really reminds me of How Halo 3's explosions worked. You guys may experiment with adding a bit of Bloom to the explosions. (just to make them look more impactful)
I only started watching recently so I don't know what your goals are, but I hope you keep focusing on the atmosphere / immersion. The spooky ambience was genuinely stressing me out.
God that uberpod's horn is both amazing and hauntingly terrifying! Please keep up the amazing work, this game looks fantastic already and i cant wait to see what else you come up with! 😎👍
Looks great even from the thumbnail. Though, the Uberpod looks out of place considering it looks so much higher quality than the rest of the world lol. But still, keep up the good work. I'm really looking forward to this game.
The tripods are creepy enough on their own, but that tentacle camera thing is absolutely terrifying.. I can't imagine what it'd be like trying to dodge it knowing one false move equals discovery with the choice of a quick death via laser or a swarm of aliens.
No way, and I was just about to go to bed too, good thing I didn't because I would have missed out on this until morning and these videos are just one of those times, I just have to watch immediately. 😅 Edit: Tornadoes 😳 as if this game wasn't cool enough, flaming trains, crashing airliners, stellar animations of the tripod being blown up and taken down, physics-based probe, Scary Uber pod, and horns, you can take on the aliens, cages with animations to match, along with all the other cool stuff we have seen in all past videos, and now...tornadoes. Raf, I'm being serious here when I say you are making my (and many other people's) dreams come true all in this one game, this one amazing package. One day I can promise you either during early access or when it's fully released 1.0, I will buy this game and support you and your talented efforts.
Consider: •Brighten the environment, outdoors and especially indoors. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but when it’s purely pitch black it takes away the fun of seeing what’s going on and actually seeing where you need to go. you can still use a flashlight, it’s just everything being pitch black is not fun whatsoever. •Buff stamina, if you are running from giant robots that rely on a raycast spotting you and killing on sight, compared to running from ground level enemies, you should have TONS of stamina to get away. Please consider jumping not taking up stamina. Some ideas- a normal run would never take stamina, but a tactical sprint that makes you run significantly faster does, or parkour abilities such as mantling or climbing up objects or polls/rope that do take stamina. •Ground level threats would liven up the world so it’s not just huge targets to run from, but especially ground level threat enemies that respond to the sight of the tripods and also wanting to avoid them. Enemies can be new ideas not seen in the movie too. •Please rig the eyeballs of NPCS. •If the tripods are gonna probe every single time, make sure every house is designed in mind with different escapes
I become more impressed with every new video! Props to the team, looks like it'll be a great game. Hope this project doesn't get shut down for legal reasons.
Awesome Work! Really cool to see the drone tentacle and the actual aliens come into the house. It was definitely something I wanted to see in the game.
Why did the aliens come inside anyway? The probe didn’t see him, and they’re safe inside the giant war machines. So why come down into a random house so they can get killed by a civilian with a frikken handgun?
This is the game I wanted as a kid, and that was maybe around 20 years ago. Where you would encounter a global/local dissaster and find yourself running away from it, with little ability to protect yourself. You have truly captured the essence of the horror atmopshere within this world building. And it really feels like the perfect horror game to release. I wonder if you are going to be able to complete it, but I like what I see.
I wondered why someone hadn't made this game sooner. I did a search on Steam and came across this one. I look forward to seeing the finished work. I remember seeing the movie when I was younger. One of the few that still scares me to watch.
Im so psyched for this to come out!! this is definitely going to be a "must have" for me! I especially like the uberpod scene at the beginning with the ferry. First found out about this game about 6 to 7 months ago, and boy has this changed A LOT!!
Lifelong Sci-Fi fan and fan of of War of the Worlds, seen all the movies and listened to the original radio broadcast. Super hyped for this! Ive been following this project for a while now, each video looks better and better.
I really like the sound of what the monsters make. Omg. when this comes out. I am def gonna get it asap. Cant wait for this game to finally be released
Watching the tripod come over the hill was both awe inspiring and chilling. Mostly the latter; as was watching the burning humvees roll through the woods. Fantastic work! Keep it up. CANNOT wait to play this game! EDIT: 1. Also, seeing the arm coming down the stairs, knowing the player went into a room that would take a severe lack of luck for it all to end; that was heart-pounding for me. I watched thinking, "It's going to come in and see him. It's coming in. It's coming IN!" 2. I'm curious if, after being captured and placed in the storage basket of the tripod, is the selection random or is that the "death animation" for that scenario? I think it would be cool to have it be random and give the player an opportunity to pull the selected person out, similar to the film.
I really hope to see loads of NPC citizens of the map to really ramp up the chaos when shit hits the fan, and that the military presence does not just die off after like day 2
I love that you gave the tripods damaged states, like you can tell it's on its last legs by the "engine sound" being different and its lights flickering. It also looks like the heat rays are malfunctioning because they're twitching around like they're trying to aim and fire but can't.
This looks insanely incredible! Also there should be a bit more sound effects added such as people screaming and panicking on the boat and the shores running away. Not only that but some military people as well.
perhaps we can see civilians being evacuated via military trucks as the tri pods advance. Or if we are on the road we could see such a convoy just like in the movie The Mist!

I asked what it was for and they said war of the worlds movie...my jaw dropped. makes me chuckle to hear the tank start up every time.
That’s awesome!
tga5s one of your tanks?! cool!👍
All u need is destructive environments and this game will be a masterpiece. Imagine hiding in a house and a beam just takes out the roof 😮💨
That would be really cool but that might be too much. Not to mention it might be hard on people's PCs
Enviromental destruction is a planned feature, fortunately.
definitely possible, I think Unreal Engine has a built in destruction system that can optionally be used. I think this game is unity, though, but its still possible.
Why are you speaking for the Devs when you clearly don't know enough to comment
The devs said ages ago that procedural destruction was being worked on, and would be implemented in future
Stop making shit up for the sake of having an answer to a question that does not apply to you
And thats why I love indie studios. They know exactly want players want and don’t always just mind the money like Triple AAA studios
Yes, the great thing about indie studies is, It's much easier to contact/communicate with the developers so they always know what we do and don't like.
7:36 I love the sound que that tells you your house is gonna be checked with the probe! Last time, it was hard to tell if the tripods were looking through the house next to you or your house until the camera turned on. This is a nice feature in general
Also notice that harvester type tripods which is ones with cages and probes have a different walk/engine sound.
@@greendecepticon6148they dont.

Haha
it's also a good showcase of the stealth mode of the tripods.
You couldn't hear it, just a few light stomps near. And then BAM! Heat ray near the postion with the horn, while the tripod engine rev back up
This combined with the Starship troopers Extermination game coming out, I feel like a kid again.

Same. I would imagine them towering over buildings in the distance. Far enough to hide from them, close enough that they would be near me soon.
Just stumbled over this video and have to say I'm really impressed. You've nailed the sense of sheer dread being stuck in the house while the tentacles explore. The haunting sound of the Martians amplifies it even more
I cannot begin to say how impressed i am with this game!
When the alien was in the house my heart dropped!
Creepy isn't ?
Jeez...
I really what would of happened if they would got caught in the movie.
i’m more excited to get ahold of this than i am for any other game that will ever be made.
Same here man
The new death sequence for when the Tripods get killed looks good, though I wouldn't mind seeing a possible dismemberment feature for said Tripods in the future. Like when a missile strikes a Tripod when it's shields are down, there can be chunks of the metal armor getting blown off like in the movie.
Or a well placed shell/rocket blowing off a leg, causing it to faceplant
@@mysoupistoohot yes, that to.

Those dreams are the most stressing and scariest ones
Bro, in my nightmare tripods was so blind
Had one myself where no matter where I was, these things would eventually come.

Looking great! Loved that you Included the aliens eventually getting ill and weak at the end. I hope they're still a little bit combat effective even in that weakened state just so they aren't complete pushovers. Even if they're just shooting blindly would be fine.
I agree
I was hoping we could see a couple aliens crawling out from their defeated tripod.
IMAGINE, multiplayer with proximity chat. Your friend goes upstairs and then you hear a distant screaming that fades off. You go upstairs to check and he's gone. He gets ahold of you on a walkietalkie to say that he was abducted by one of the tripods. Man that would be SO cool!!
multiplayer is a last man standing they shouldnt have made that option which means the game is only good for singleplayer
Multiplayer and horror don't mix.
@@Skrenja if implemented properly, they mix quite well.
Actually I believe he plans to have that. There is already in game voice which the Tripods can and WILL hear. So I imagine it will be like dead before daylight and other horror games that implement stealth and hidding tactics. The noisy people will get snatched up first.
Yeah they stated that in multiplayer the tripods can hear your mic
So you should better whisper with ur friend lol.
The horns sound ever so slightly different from the movie is an original yet still very terrifying way. It's perfect!

What about fighter jets?
@@johncarter6675 I wouldn't want to be a fighter jet pilot against the kind of weaponry the tripods pack. It'd be a death sentence.
9:31 *throws splash potion of harming ii*
Something like "I need food/water/a weapon", or when nighttime falls, "I need somewhere safe to sleep", and then when you've survived the first day, "I need to find help."
This would serve as a non-intrusive and natural-feeling way to teach the player the fundamentals of gameplay while still keeping in line with the sandbox core feeling of the game.

This is just fantastic. Awesome work
Everything is looking really good, and I got an idea for a little adition: at the part showing the tripods getting attack, you could make them to fire burst of the heatwave in an attempt to fight back, like trying to aim but being incapable of and shoting randomly anywhere, also, while getting attack by rockets, maybe make it look like is being pushed by the impact just a bit and trying to keep balance if it's posible, other than that, all the effects are awesome, can't wait to see more of this project

The audio work here is fantastic. Atmospheric to the extreme. Keep it up!
Edit: Tornadoes 😳 as if this game wasn't cool enough, flaming trains, crashing airliners, stellar animations of the tripod being blown up and taken down, physics-based probe, Scary Uber pod, and horns, you can take on the aliens, cages with animations to match, along with all the other cool stuff we have seen in all past videos, and now...tornadoes. Raf, I'm being serious here when I say you are making my (and many other people's) dreams come true all in this one game, this one amazing package. One day I can promise you either during early access or when it's fully released 1.0, I will buy this game and support you and your talented efforts.
Take as long as you need to make this game amazing. The atmosphere is there, and the calls of the tripods are amazing.
Consider:
•Brighten the environment, outdoors and especially indoors.
Your advice will save this game, no doubt /s
I think the brightness is fine. Everything else I can agree on
There's no such thing as a "tactical sprint".
Did you not see those mini tripods inside the house?
2:20 Bro that sound 🤯
The detail at the end when the pods started dying is amazing. Question, is there gonna be like a week, a day, and an Infinite invasion?.
Absolutely phenomenal! This game is going to be insane!
So much progress being made. Can’t believe how excited I am!
God damn those effects when the power surges on the tripod before it collapses is amazing.
This game looks so much better than what you guys first put out until now and its still in Alpha! I'm excited to see the finished product!
Watching the tripod come over the hill was both awe inspiring and chilling. Mostly the latter; as was watching the burning humvees roll through the woods.
Fantastic work! Keep it up. CANNOT wait to play this game!
EDIT:
1. Also, seeing the arm coming down the stairs, knowing the player went into a room that would take a severe lack of luck for it all to end; that was heart-pounding for me. I watched thinking, "It's going to come in and see him. It's coming in. It's coming IN!"
2. I'm curious if, after being captured and placed in the storage basket of the tripod, is the selection random or is that the "death animation" for that scenario? I think it would be cool to have it be random and give the player an opportunity to pull the selected person out, similar to the film.
Amazing to see these iconic scenes being translated to gameplay. Stunning work as always. Keep it up!
Imagine getting chased when becoming an human and screaming with microphone when got caught...i really excited about this
Imagine as human your in the uberpod cage but you hear everyone screaming through their microphone lol
Watching this is like watching a film, I am actually captivated and scared at the same time. Hats off to those involved
I really hope to see loads of NPC citizens of the map to really ramp up the chaos when shit hits the fan, and that the military presence does not just die off after like day 2
The part at 8:02 is literally a manifestation of my nightmares when I was a kid, so excited for this game holy shit.
I love that you gave the tripods damaged states, like you can tell it's on its last legs by the "engine sound" being different and its lights flickering. It also looks like the heat rays are malfunctioning because they're twitching around like they're trying to aim and fire but can't.
I honestly didn't expect the destruction of tripods to be a possibility even though the military were present in the game. Love it.
This looks insanely incredible! Also there should be a bit more sound effects added such as people screaming and panicking on the boat and the shores running away. Not only that but some military people as well.
Great to see someone’s interpretation of what the inside of the ship looks like, even if it’s just a glimpse. Great work man
perhaps we can see civilians being evacuated via military trucks as the tri pods advance. Or if we are on the road we could see such a convoy just like in the movie The Mist!
Fun fact: in the game and if you manage to get inside the cage the tentacle thingy always chooses you
I really hope this project makes it! I've always wanted this kind of unique fear in a videogame.
