Hey....bringing Rodger on was NICE touch!! I've gotten many compliments on my new PeaCoat. I got the idea for it right here on this channel. Women do love how it fits and looks. Had my pea coat on the other day, and girl I've known for awhile who I was talking to at the bus stop, all of a sudden brushed her hand across the lapel of the coat and gave me a hug...lol (Really!)....lol I was like...wtf? It was a nice gesture on her part. I know it was the coat.
Solid Video Jeff. Pea coats are very versatile from casual to more formal. I agree Navy is the way to go. I also agree that you want wool...take the time and spend a little more. It’s well worth it.
Bought a new real pea coat at a military surplus store, had it tailored a tad, it looks great, ladies love it especially when I wear a colorful scarf or a nice turtle neck...and my trusted English tweed ivy flat cap...lmao
Grab one, it's classic! You can be grown and sexy with it (dress shoes) or be hip hop (boots n sneakers) with it. I learned that from the Chicago brothers!

Thanks for the bonus tip! I had no idea to leave the bottom button undone. It's cold here in Brooklyn and I'm ROCKING a peacoat I got from eBay ($90). Size 38, Kersey wool, eight (!) buttons on front. Pre-WWII. "NAVAL CLOTHING FACTORY" label (used in 1947 and earlier) inside and extra stitching 3 inches above each cuff. It's best coat I own and never want to take it off.
I have one more advice. Many pea coats are available with metal buttons. It is better to avoid them and get one with plastic buttons or to keep in mind to replace metal buttons with plastic. Metal buttons in pea coats, have the tendency to cat the thread very often, because unlike buttons in e.g. blazers, they are stretched more.
got a navy blue pea coat, charcoal wool overcoat and a black peacoat this season, so i should be good in those areas for several years.... well perhaps a camel overcoat next season.
Have you’ve done a segment on winter gloves? If not, that would be a nice category to cover. From bespoke to store bought, types of leathers, styles and linings. Could be fun and informative.
Are there brands out there for people with broad back and shoulders? Problem I have with pea coats is that it's meant for the average and more slim slender builds. As a gym rat, the shoulder, arms and back restricts movement and couldn't wear layers underneath. If I choose a size bigger, I lose aesthetic & style making the coat look longer.
Mr Jeff can a tailor fix that tapper you mention on a coat? My peacoat does not have that slight taper that you mention other than that I think it fits.

Would this be a 1950's-era & would you have a genuine button source? BTW, tomorrow I am going to try wearing it with my red sweater & a white-collared shirt under it with jeans.

Living in Texas. Unless we have another cold front before spring, I will not have had a chance to wear my navy peacoat or my camel coat this season. I have too many coats and jackets for a southerner.
I'm a tall and slim guy and I just got myself a stunning peacoat. The only problem is that while it fits perfectly (or very close to it) on my shoulder it feels a bit too wide on the sides and especially in the armpit area if I raise my hands. Do you think it could be tailored to fit me properly or if I should take it back (it's a rather expensive one)?
Im allergic to wool, that aside, some peacoats has lost their quality. I bought a peacoat from American Eagle one time it was the best. Took it back because of my allergic reaction😔, then bought it again the next year 🤬🤬... Amy ideas?

I know this is an old video style OG but I just moved from Florida to Wisconsin and it is cold AF up here so I have to get a whole new wardrobe since I'm not used to this cold. I usually wear an XL but would it be wise to get an XXL size to layer up in negative temps or would it look too big?
awesome vid holmes, i was wondering how should the buttons feel closed up? i have a pea coat myself that fits good and all, just my only concern is that when i try to spread my arms and such, the buttons start getting a bit pulled and i can feel/ see this goin on, is that normal?
I have a gray pea coat and bought years ago for a steal. Fits great in the shoulder and chest but not the sleeve length. The pea coat only came in regular and needed a short. When my preschool students see me in it they yell out, “where’s you hands.” Lol

I normally wear a 44 but in the Peacoat I wear a 40. Perfect fit. Definitely go to a store to get the proper fit.

Just a piece of advice the Original Navy Peacoat can be purchased at Schottnyc. An its a "must" for the buttons to have the anchors.
So should I buy a peacoat one size big or my original size I'm a size large but always get an extra large

CooLT0531 you might try a bridge coat. Its a little bit longer. Its considered an officers coat and usually has gold buttons.
