My favourite pair of pants are my dirtiest ones. I just accidentally ruined them with pigment while painting, got mad at myself first, but now they have this special purpose, giving me the freedom to express and work freely without the constant fear of messing up my other clothes. Sometimes, when possible, it's a good way to positively repurpose things instead of throwing them away.

    Talking about empty space:
I had an impressive experience. I came into my kitchen lost in thought. I had completely forgotten that I had cleaned and tidied it from top to bottom in the morning. Everything was neat, clean and aesthetically pleasing.
When I entered and suddenly saw this emptiness, it was as if my mind expanded beyond my body and filled the entire room. I felt light and almost as if my soul was growing beyond me. Just for a very brief moment. I felt it physically, it was not just a thought.
Since then, I have perceived order and emptiness as a place for potential to literally “unfold”.

The negative associations point is so good! I keep many material things that are negative forces in my life because I feel guilty. Maybe they were gifts, or remind me of someone I don't like, or I paid a lot of money for them. But every time I look at them, I feel bad. I will get rid of them.

Oh Aki, you don't know how you spoke from my heart and mind today!- As an only child, grandchild and niece I inherited 4 households (house, weekend house and 1800 squaremeters of property). I have been selling, giving away and donating, it just doesn't get any lesser. If I could afford it I'ld send you a 1st class to Germany.- My mind runs in circles and needs decluttering.-- I always take your wise words to heart, it is just not that easy to throw away the masses of stuff ❣❣

Love this! I wiped down my boots after getting to work(I listened to the video on the drive). They're beautiful boots, but the shipyard is sooooo dusty! It took 3 minutes to wipe off the pair and they're much cleaner and I feel much better wearing them. Looks like they'll need daily cleaning, just like my car(so dusty!).

What a wonderful presentation. I've been news and commercial free for 14 years. I especially liked the shoe analogy. I have a constant cycle of clean shoes every day as i spend so much time outside. My property and inside home is filled with plants and i cherish them all. A friend recently brought me 2 ferns she had neglected and offered them to me for my compost heaps. I just watered them and they are beautiful, lush and add a sparkle to the area i placed them. Bless you for your loving, positive offerings. ❤😊

Ads made me feel like I had to have what they were selling and programs showcasing beautiful homes and beautiful people made me unhappy with my life. I don't miss the tv at all!

Arigatou, I have been going through a major downsizing in my life. It has been very liberating. It has also made me realize what a waste it is having so much "stuff". I find it serendipitous that I have found your channel. My friend has been talking to me about Nicheran Buddhism and I have been saying Arigatou every morning and taking time to "Tadaima". I am planning on binge watching your channel this week.

If you have lots of cables, and can't get rid of them, as they go to your numerous electronics, I've found bundling them tightly, either in loops or looser folds, keeps the mess to a minimum. It allows you to easily pick out which one you need in the moment, without having to detangle a pile of cords.

    • @doubleleterlady
      @doubleleterlady Месяц назад +18

That’s not stingy. Maybe there’s a different meaning in German but in English it means excessive thrift- to the point that it causes harm to yourself or others.
As long as the repaired item doesn’t cause harm it’s not stingy, at least not in English 😅
As a matter of fact it is environmentally friendly to repair something rather than throwing it away ❤

Diaries with negative feelings from my youth: I don't feel so alone with what I did, now. Before I left to go to continue to a larger university, I had several hand made journals, full of angry and sad feelings..and I didn't want to bring it with me BUT I didn't want anyone else to read them or keep them so I let them go, and burned them and said good bye to the past. I don't regret it
I still have a problem keeping stuffed animals and dolls 😂

Another great video, Aki. I had been filling up a clear plastic bag with shredded paper. My dog got hold of it and liked to lie on it, so I didn't mind. Then a couple of days ago he wanted to rearrange it, and split the bag with his claws. Shredded paper all over the area. That and since I was young, I've assigned each of them a name and personality, so it's hard to say goodbye! I'm trying to find new homes with good people for them. I find that this makes letting them go more bearable (...no pun intended).

Instead of throwing away good cables, learn to organise them neatly. Wires are much better: wireless items require constant resupplying of batteries, which generate clutter and non-eco-friendly garbage. Plus, wireless devices transmit energy through the air, making you live in a constant cloud of electromagnetic smog. Long live the cables!

I am proud of all the things you have been able to get rid of, including your TV. You have a computer though, so do you watch anything on that or is there a select few things that you do watch on it? Maybe you watch nothing on it since it is on the edge of TV. Do you watch any inspiring RUclipsrs? I'd love to see your recommendations if you have them. I haven't owned a TV since the 1990s. It just was never my thing. However, I do have some streaming services these days, but my queue is VERY small. I looked at my Netflix list and there are only 10 things on my to-watch list.
I think your culture is very much about how there are spirits in items, while in my upbringing, if a spirit is in an item, it is a demon and holds power over us, so I don't own anything like stuffed animals or trinkets at all. It is fascinating to learn about such things.

Aloha dear, i really enjoy your videos (:
~ In this one when you came to the subject of toys/dolls, i hope this doesn't make people throw away ones that are truly a part of their heart. The few I have, have been with me almost my entire life; they have seen it all. We went on hiking trails and sail boat living; when i am down, they are very good friends.
So.. if those old little guys carry the happiness of a wonderful past .. I cannot imagine abandoning them bc their plush is old.
One of mine was hand made by my wonderful aunt.
    ~
( but yes there is potential for lots of stuck/ stagnant energy in objects that were never given a life ).
This said, i sincerely wonder what is your take on wabisabi ?
I guess my personal comfort zone is minimal + areas to display things wabisabi. ( they are also meaningful to me )
One rule that i read a long time ago in a magazine was :
    "Anything smaller than a grapefruit"
    .. creates clutter.
I have really found this to be true.
