My father sang in the famed Tuskegee (then Institute) choir in the 1950s and was recorded on vinyl singing this classic. He recently witnessed this video and could not have been more PROUD of this performance!
30 year plus Chorister here. Know this piece through and through. THIS PERFORMANCE IS STELLAR! One of the best I've ever heard. PRECISE, CLEAR, CHRISP ON the NOTES right in the CENTER. My congrats to Dr. Haywood and the Choir.
I'm introducing German teens to the Prophet Ezekiel and starting off with this song, "Dem Bones," and "By the Rivers of Babylon." The response has been encouraging.
Mrs Birdy Nichols director of the Westinghouse High choir during the 60’s throughout 80’s provided us with the versatility to sing this beautiful hymn. It still gives me chills to hear it.
I started reading Ezekiel the other day and had this great old spiritual rattling around in my head. So I asked Alexa to play it for me and she answered with the rendition done by Veggie Tales. Now, I can't judge Veggie Tales because I have never watched them, nor had any children who would have watched them, and while the song was certainly entertaining, it lacked both the spirit and the musicality (and authenticity too!) shown in this video. Fantastic work, Dr. Haywood!
Too bad we weren't treated to a comment by James De Priest, first Afro American conductor on the global stage, on every performance of "Ezekiel saw de Wheel" before he passed away.
Well-voiced..choir is great, the tenor soloist is excellent... but the accelerando during the repeated middle part where the voices build on top of each other is superfluous. Dawson wrote a song that builds and carries itself. The director should have allowed the song to soar on its own.
I disagree... The accelerando was a refreshing interpretation of Ezekiel's wheel... I have heard, performed, and directed this song for the better part of 30 years... And have Never heard, performed or directed it this well... BRAVO! BRAVA! BRAVISSIMO!
@@jeromepeterson7150 I disagree too. control over the "basso continuo" gives more sense to what is sung... Jerome.. you must have ben awesome too.. (little hint, Bravo (singular) Bravi (plural (I know most of us here do not know this) and the same is true for Bravissimi!.... an addition... Bravissimissimi

Who's here in 2024? Always loved this song
The spirituals of William are absolutely wonderful. Nothing more soul stirring. than Dawson's compositions. JPG

OMG WE SANG THIS IN HIGH SCHOOL & WHAT A JOYOUS MEMORY THIS BRINGS BACK! GREAT JOB CHOIR!
The best one I’ve heard so far. The 🛸 the chariots my ancestors sang about is Ezekiel’s wheel.

Kilt it well done!
Wonderful! Perfect speed, great annunciation, great pitch. Bravo!! ( one teeny note: one sop. stands out a bit with too much vibrato- end it!)
Just imagine, the wheel might be up there right now but heaven has a higher frequency than is used on earth, so we can't see it.
Many have seen the smaller ones coming from it.
Hallelujah
Can anyone tell me what Choir this is please?🙏
