  • The Compaq Presario 5600 is one of the harder to find systems being that the 5200 and 5100 that was sold along side them offered a quite compelling package making the 5600s added drive bays and more interior room for mostly a non PC educated public a hard sell. These are some of the hardest to find vintage Compaqs I have encountered! Come along with me for a tour of the 5600 and the few issues with my unit, and hopefully another one to materialize so I can have a mint 5600 tower!

Slow it down and relax.A moving camera like you're doing is nearly UN watchable.I'm not being negative just trying to help you, also, you might want to stop using the bell, that's really irritating.

I had one of these. It was a K6-II at 450mhz with 96mb ram and a 20gb Quantum Bigfoot HDD and a bizarre combo DSL/POTS modem. I got it in 99 to play Everquest and had to get a discrete GPU almost immediately (Riva TNT) because the built in Rage chip was terrible.

I love this era of compaq, I used to work in a data processing department for a software company. I had 10 of the 5000 series with a P2 233 I would run scripts on and ... wait. I have a 5037 in my inventory.

A few things to note here. An "ATX form" board with AT power connectors rather than ATX. AGP slot in a different place from the Intel reference design. 10Mbit Ethernet when cards were mostly 10/100Mbit in the Pentium II era. It has a later Pentium II badge without the chrome effect which goes along with it having Windows 98. The Pentium II 333 was replaced by the 350 that year. I think that could be an Adaptec Firewire controller on the board - possibly used with the optional Compaq Digital Flat Panel display??

It looks pretty good! I'm envious - i've been working on a Presario 7482 (AMD K6-2), and the 5600 looks like a much better option in many respects: easier access to the internals, much better laid out internals, more expansion slot types...
Thanks for the video, it's great to take a look back at the options of the time! :D

*I can't believe we came from Dinosaurs like this. I am on a 14 processor over clocked to 7 7 GHz. ea. and I think it's too slow. Not after watching this.*

Well this video is unwatchable. Need to learn editing and how not to set things up on a moving table and not insert annoying sounds and not try to be funny when you're not funny.
