i love how consistent the ID stories are at fleshing out characters. so many ID stories have made it clear just how capable and sensible donqui IS- this and cinq especially are so good at showcasing she’s a lot more than she lets on. thanks for the video!

Isn’t it interesting how only Don is mentioned to be especially displeased with taxing the poor, whereas Rodion is more focused on herself by collecting extra time from people.

Don's impulsive side was also shown! She wished the pickaxe would actually harm the dude

I kinda wish we actually got to see one of the times she taxed a poor person. Also a situation like that sorta comes with some nuace as well doesn't it? She's part of the system that oppresses the poor and she probably doesn't do much when it comes to the embezzlements done by the collectors. Not to mention, you have to wonder if she's actually focused on doing the right thing, or just likes the opportunity to lash out at someone without looking bad, much like Rodya.

i think everything is naturally nuanced in the city, given what ruina’s whole motif is about. when you’re in the city they only way to ‘survive’ as an individual is so live by city rules. only by removing the expectation of the city does someone like angela escape its grasp. don, just like every other sinner, are just more cogs in the wheel, they get crushed and they crush people, regardless of they work at limbus, a syndicate, a fixer office or a corporation. no one in the city is clean and a true saint (which is what make characters like sonya or carmen so interesting) BUT, in my honest opinion i do think don is someone who wants to do good but must repeatedly give up her ideals half way in nature to how the city is. i think cinq uptie does the best of showing it, in which she actively says that her ideals are deemed childish in the city but if she has results with a profit, it’s considered a real thing worth counting, saying that is her “compromise,” it’s very easy to see one character and deem them as not heroic, but there really isn’t “good,” or “bad,” in the city, just what is deemed as such. your “good deed” may screw over everyone else (lobotomy corporation) or your “bad deed” may lead to great fortune. ultimately no one person can outrun the cycle. the sephirah needed a thousand years to be able to do that. (given the fact, too, things like the middle who don’t forget, or w corp that at least in ruina is implied to kill or expose of people who leave the corporation, is it worth giving up your entire life and chance at surviving for some ideals people will forget by tomorrow, to become another corpse in the pile, or to try your best and compromise between reality and your ideals? to try to do “good,” as you see fit within your capabilities, even if that comes with doing “bad,” as well? i think don lands in the latter)

While we saw Rodya skimming off of some poorer folks, it’s definitely a shame we didn’t see Don do it.
