- The HORUS X10s is one of the best radios for 2018. Great features like a full color LCD screen that you can see outdoors, customizable themes, widgets, custom layouts, full color aircraft photos, customizable icons, speech, smart port, telemetry, module bay, 3 antennas, and custom colors. Supports bluetooth connection to the FrSky Free Link iOS app for on the fly realtime PID tuning, FC changes, Aircraft setup, and realtime aircraft data. 23:01 - I believe that is selecting between the internal antennas you can't see, and the one on top is the external (the one you can see). Anything with the external module will be done down in the section you looked at at 25:08. FWIW, that PPM etc in the external module section is how the Horus will talk to the module in the bay.

Thanks for the excellent review. The beautiful screen, new gimbals, improved port location, Bluetooth connectivity, etc, etc. are to die for. Except for the fact that - its huge. When they put those features in a radio the size of the X7S, which is perfect BTW, I'll bite.

I recently got the same one, am also glad I went with the s version. Not cheap but an awesome upgrade over my aging Teranis. Even the gimbals feel way nicer than the x9d's m9 hall censor type gimbals. Also so much nicer and quicker to setup and program.

Hello, nice review.. but there are some points to be clearified: 1. at 23:25 you are describing the antenna selection, and the X10s have 2 antennas, one is internal and the other one is that one u see detachable with SMA connector. With that option you can transmit with EXT (external that mounted on SMA connector ), with INTernal (this radio got internal antennas , and isn't located in the back module bay that is use for others protocols modules) and ofcourse both can be activated as EXT+INT , so both antennas will transmit at once...
2. The are other 2 switch/ trim located at both sides of the speaker and nobody tells that can be programmed.

Justin, great review! i also use a Mac with my X10S but when i access files (images, sounds, etc.), the radio sees the junk files, too (those with the ._ in front of the file name). when you accessed your model images @ 12:44, you didn't have junk files. do you follow a particular process to get the files onto your SDcard cleanly? i've done both copy/paste as well as clicking/dragging, but the junk files still transfer over to the radio. cheers!

Hi, very good review. I just updated my X10s with a personal background. I already own a Taranis Plus the only weak point I found regarding X10 great radio is battery duration. When can I find that frsky app you shown and how does it function?
I am looking at this or a Spektrum iX12. Which one is best overall if you fly all sorts of models (heli, plane, quad, etc.)?

I have TBS tango which I use in a couple of quads who have crossfire receivers. I was looking at this FrSky for a first FrSky transmitter for my drones with frsky receivers, is this too advance for beginners?
The "eyeball" is the speaker volume not telemetry if I am not mistaken. The cell phone signal looking bars on the right is the telemetry signal strength.

What's up Justin, hey so I flashed the The hours with Open TX and all went good. I went to make my first model and realized that there is no other model but an airplane and all the stick inputs are completely wrong. Am I missing something? I am not sure what to do cause I can't even make a model to use with my quads

I would have got that but was broke and still am so i got the qx7 and it has worked!! The one time i did fly now that it is -5 with the wind chill i do not want to go outside haha love this channel👍👍 love the screen!! Do you think the qx7 has the same range as the xd9 or the x10s

+kitensurf both! I have been an active ikitesurf user for a long time. Most accurate local wind data I can find anywhere.
PS: I own 2 whoops, a small 110mm and a 150 all with DSMX receivers. Has anyone tried the DSMX module on the X10S or know with certainty that it will bind and control the quads properly? Thanks

I thought you had to do a lot more than that to update to open tx? Its not like with Joshua's video where you have to go into DFU and back everything up and use the openTX configurator?

I personally do not care for all the rotary knobs on the front. Too many knobs and switches. I really like Futaba as far as radios go. It is a nice radio,kinda boxy. I dont like the fact you cannot acess the battery at all. Sadly, I sometimes forget to charge my battery the night before, however, I always have a spare handy. The price is ok on this radio. Why they dont have a center detent on all the knobbies .I do like the options reguarding the Aps when they become available. I like the bright color screen. It is big, mabe too big. As compaired to Spektrum, probably the same huh? Nice review. Thankyou.

Hi i just got my x10 wow hope i can get a better understanding on programming it 🙄
My qx7 was finally stiffing me in the air with range, so picking my battles with costs went with the x9 special addition wit the griffity. Ima miss the selector switches though but once setup, don’t ever have to fiddle with it again. This x10 though by far looks like the Ferrari version of controllers. Just finding out about the hall upgraded w berrings? Man o man. Ummm did you say give away in this video?? 😜

I have been running futaba for ever and am done with being ripped off. is it possible that someone would make a 16 channel reciever to match the 16 channel reciever. or will we forever have to sbus or use 8+8?
Guide504 Futaba has quality control ,back-up, nice feeling switches, they are finished well and feel nice to use ,for around $600.00 you can get a 16sz with all the features you will ever need and a big touchscreen and includes a $180.00 reciever and a quality manual in English . I have a 14sg and love it ,especially the sensor touch ,the dial and button on this Horus is old.
I really want one but I have a X9D and QX7 and modified both. I think if I bite the bullet and get one, the X9D will be up for sale..... I really like the QX7

I figured it out. Quite simple really, the resolution is 480x272 in png format. Put the file in the Themes subfolders labeled for the theme you are using and rename the file to background.
Can this radio work well with say gliders or airplanes? I see tons of mixes and information related to quad copters. Was this radio build or intended for quads only?

What receiver would I use for this radio ? Will it bind with a radiolink r12ds ? connected to a pixhawk with an on board Raspberry pi ? Will this work with mission planner software ?
I ordered the X8R receiver for this is this the correct receiver for my configuration with the radiolink pixhawk ?
Will I be able to run the Open TX with the pixhawk ?
Are there any good options for failsafe mode besides "no pulses?"

+Darren Reneau search your sd card for the file name background.jpg and then you can replace it with a new one. Put back in the radio. Restart the radio. Boom new background in the theme folder you dropped the file in.

+Peter Mabbort I think Spektrum is playing catch up to Frsky options. For a decade Spektrum was ahead of the pack. Now it’s just expensive.

Looks nice, but it’s just too big for me. Heck even the x9d is too large.
I love my taranis plus, but I’ll let you know my thoughts about this radio, i am followings my rules as an architect the design is not quite the best that look like a big box in my hands, I think is why the lack of success of this radio on the community, I am not talking about the ferformance and software, I am talking about the design.
This was pretty thorough and I am really digging the excitement projected in the review. I’m a beginner that likes to move fast (not always a good thing) I bought a DX6e but I’m quickly outgrowing it. I love setting up apps / programs, I’m digging deeper into BetaFlight, always fidget with the OSDs, etc, etc. I love tech, gadgets, automation... Obsessed with DRONES obviously. This is the “Tony Stark” radio out there... and it looks like it belongs in 2018. In comparison, the nice Spektrum 12xx? with all the bells and whistles (perhaps more than this one) which I need to check it out... still has an antiquated look and it’s $$$$ double the cost.... So I’m almost convinced that it’s not even worth looking at..... I gotta have this X10S, lol

You had forgot to mention, towards the end of the video you spoke of Crossfire and its merits as a long range module, but FORGOT to mention that you need to 'MOD" the TX by taking it apart and doing some soldering and adding a part that makes it work with the TBS Crossfire...? Same goes for the QX7, as I'm leaning towards Crossfire, but not liking the fact that a MOD must be performed before you're able to use it with the X10S or QX7. Unless you use Frsky's new R9M module, which I'm also doing research on as its proprietary and should 'Just work"???
I'm just afraid that its a bit too much for me? I had a time trying to figure out my QX7, as I have no one here to help me figure this stuff out...
I want this, as I've multiple quads and also looking at a long range build and a glider too...
Any ideas on where to get help to figure this out, if I decide to go this route?

Went through your review several times to duplicate your update to OpenTx without Companion and USB cable. So far, unsuccessful. Could you please list the steps you took. Thanks.
On the X7S you can go into boot loader mode, press Write Firmware, and pick the file in the FIRMWARE folder on the SD. I image that you can do that with the X10S. Very simple.

can this radio run a crossfire module at full speed?...
Yes but I use the full version of Crossfire module with the screen. And micro receivers
I've heard conflicting reports about this. Any watch outs using this with the Crossfire big module?
Northern FPV not without modding it, a replacement inverter is included with all crossfire modules to fix this problem

There are no "ooom's" in it ...
With the QX7 people complained that the switches hit your fingers when flying pinch, so FrSky listened and moved them on the 7S....
Then the X10 is released and they put the switches in the same stupid place. I'm out (sadly).
Wait seriously? I was thinking of moving from X9D to this or X12, but if I'm gonna hit top switches like I did on X7 I'm out too

Yeah my OG X9D from 2014 is pretty much a SE now, even got working removable antenna, I just fancied something more premium I guess

I sold my Taranis and bought a Jeti DS14, then a 16... then a Horus X12S, then tried a QX7 now back to a Taranis SE
Luckily I didn’t loose much money doing it but the Taranis SE is the best bang for the buck

You can't fault the hardware, but the company behind it is lost. This radio is now becoming my ExpressLRS controller.
