Sondre was initially just going to have Aurora sing the main melody, but up an octave. It´s Sondre Lerche´s song. He had Aurora´s voice in his head when searching for the female counterpart. I´m happy that you enjoyed it, because many people say it´s too long and repetitive, thus boring. Considering it´s not just about love and desire, but about what happens to our bodies and souls during life, I think it needs the time to deliver the bittersweet message: Nothing is eternal, neither our memories, and sometimes sicknesses like Alzheimer expose our fragility. This sadness is beautifully portrayed by the strings and background music.
This is a very beautiful song, and it's not too long. Beautiful songs like this, could go on an on for ever. And it is cool that they recorded it in a flat in just a common living room. Sondre Lerche is a very clever composer, singer and arranger. And this song is one of his best, I think. And together with Aurora it gets perfect 🥰
Just an achingly beautiful song. I recall reading something about the song being a love song for an elderly couple dealing with dementia and those questions posed throughout the song. Aurora's whispered word at the beginning is heavenly! I cannot believe how this girl constantly impresses me--one absolute gem after another!!
Oooooh I love this! It’s got a very classic feel in how it sounds; the way the music sounds and their voices together just works. It’s interesting to see how Aurora changed her delivery to meld perfectly with Sondre’s voice. This is one of those perfect “wedding” songs because it’s def romantic but also long enough to slow dance to.
Very beautiful and sad in the same time in a retro style. Love both in this song and cool video. Also agree about his voice. Aurora of course is a "harmony machine" :P.
There was an article that came out a short time ago that explained that Aurora and Silja (her previous back-up) sang backup for him when AURORA got started. There's pictures out there somewhere. They were familiar. This is one of the most beautiful and in some ways very sad song about love and dementia. Bergen artists seem to help each other, which has shown to lead to successful ventures. This being a great example. Loved this, and the way you reacted was much how I felt when I heard it. Sondre stated that Aurora's "Exist For Love" moved him, and he heard her in this part. She exceeded his expectations in performing this duet.
That’s a really cool fact! Thanks for sharing that! I really appreciate getting to read these little tidbits of information that I wouldn’t otherwise know.
Yeah they are friends and know each other at least since 2014. More tidbits of information: According to a podcast with Aurora, he sent her a version of this song on the phone just with guitar. Aurora liked it very much and could imagine herself be part of it too. After they rehearsed it together in her apartment and she had quite an influence on how it was sung and the idea of incorporating the strings.
When you start to understand the meaning behind the the lyrics to this it has to be one of the most moving songs you will ever hear,to take a subject of dementia and the effects that it has between two people who are so in love, wow! It hits the heartstrings and the emotions so deeply,it’s simply a masterpiece in musical artistry and I can’t think of anyone else other than Aurora to be a part of this, you could put her in any era and she would never be out of place she’s that special an artist she ticks every box GENIUS ❤️
"When your mind turns to dust, will you know me by heart?" One of the most beautiful lines in any song I think. I wasn't aware that you'd reacted to this, Jeff. This song instantly struck a strong chord with me when it released. Love from Norway♥♥♥♥♥

Almost unbelievable, how they both enters this very very special place/space and situation with such authenticity, intimacy, delicacy, love, appreciation, understanding, confusion, pain …. love/loss …. ohh, it is soo profoundly beautiful and heartbreaking …..🙏🏼💜❤️💔❤️. I was thinking about the same thing, you mentioned about the character of the relationship in and with (their) love … re. The Four Loves it doesn’t Have to be purely the romantic love (eros), but could also be the love in a deep friendship (philia) or both? There is so much in this, and I will both watch, listen and read lyrics again💖💖. Still amazed and touched by them both and the common third …. wow🙏🏼💜.
Incredible song writing and arrangement …. phew. As with the very first sentence song by Aurora it all reminds me of Melody Gardots way in and with music in several ways💜.
@@StrateleStudios Oh, you know it? The poem by Francis William Bourdillon delicately written into this song/duet by the Icelandic/Danish duo, Song For Wendy? So beautiful💜🌙✨🥰
A great reaction video for a great song. Listen to everything you can by Sondre Lerche. His recent run of albums (Please, Pleasure, Solo Pleasure, Patience, and Avatars of Love) is phenomenal.
The entire song does feel very romantic in a Sinatra kind of way, almost, but that final chord sort of stuck with me. Boy did it come from nowhere! And nice touch warping the reverb tail like they did. Kinda gave me a feeling of the entire song being telling a story of love as an illusion or a mask being removed, revealing a much more complex reality. I think we're dealing with a polychord here. Sometimes it's easier for me to identify chords by listening for lets say triads or seventh chords rather than listening for multiple upper extensions. I believe (and am assuming) this song is in Eb, and that final chord does have an Eb triad in there, but there's another triad in there too. And it's Bb+ (augmented). So Eb/Bb+. Which is why this chord is so impactful. Written using only upper extensions it's Ebmaj7#9. And it has two maj7 intervals in it (root - maj7 and 3rd - #9). Tense, but it doesn't feel unresolved, just tragic and uncertain. Sorry, just needed to figure that out. This is a beautiful song, but sometimes you just need to know why that it is... Jeff seems to be on a Norwegian streak as of late ;)
To me her genius, besides her many talents, f ex emulating the sound of chewing carrots, is that, at least it seems so, that the story is always always always her focus. This means that she sings, dances and arranges the way that tells the story in the optimal way. For most pop it is a blessing not hearing the lyrics. With Aurora I aleays hear the words and I very often look up the lyrics.
I love this song and video. It drives me nuts when I hear people complain about their being no good modern music, they must be trying to avoid it, there is so much that there isn't enough time to experience it all. I enjoyed your reaction and thoughts,.
Your reflections are probably very right. He is 15 years older than her. She was doing some live background vocals for him very early on in her career (They are with the same management), and he was so nice to her when she was just a young aspiring rookie. They probably haven't seen each other much afterward since has his house in New York and she in Bergen (When they are not touring). The video really shows their deep, loving friendship in such a precious way. The way they so freely, pure and caring interact with each other with real interest. They are both deep genuine and quirky artists and truly lift each other's spirits. The way he puts the coat on her when she is leaving :). That kind of friendship is so beautiful, it almost hurts. This song and video is a timeless masterpiece.
@@StrateleStudiosBtw I don't know for sure who did the arrangements. But the producer looks like Mattias Tellez(Girl in Red etc) And Sondre Lerche is known for his "jazzy" chord progressions. The vocal harmonies were basically and precisely ad-libbed on the spot by Aurora to Sondre's amazement according to himself
I’m quite late to the party on this, but I’d like to request Sondre Lerche - Two Way Monologue(live) AND the song SENTIMENTALIST(music video) is also a MUST. Sondre is a fantastic artist, songwriter and musician from Bergen, Norway. Same as Aurora
If you liked this.....I think you'll really like Aurora's own song, one from her newest album, called Exist For Love. She made a music video for it....very Botticelli circa 1920s art deco....you'll see lol. It's different from much of her music....it has more of a smokey low key jazz vibe to it. Lots of lush 7th chords and cool chromatic vocal ideas, but with a very simple and direct song at it's core. I thought it was just ok when she first released it, but over time I've really come to love it. There's a real pure simplicity to it that's reminiscent of the mood of this song. Also.....if I may be so bold as to make a suggestion/request? I know you've reacted to a song or two from her Nidarosdomen cathedral concert. But that entire concert is just stunning. And definitely best appreciated all at once. There's a very deliberate ebb and flow to the songs and the setlist. Several other reaction channels have done the entire concert in one go.....and I'd just love to see you do that! It's only 1 hour long....that's it, but it feels like slipping into another world that feels totally timeless. It's hands down one of my top 3 favorite shows I've ever seen in my life. And I'm counting shows where I was actually personally there. Seeing Tool live in 2002 was pretty life changing. But equally life changing was seeing that Nidarosdomen show in my small apartment, with headphones on, watching my laptop back in spring of 2020. I felt like a new human being by the end of it. And....she opens the show with a very stripped and powerful cover of Nature Boy that totally sets the mood for what follows. I know you'll love it.... :)
Sorry.....and one more! There's an excellent excellent documentary on Aurora called "Once." It's here on youtube.....and documents her life/career between her 1st album and the recording and release of her 2nd album. It's right when she was blowing up popularity wise.....and is quite powerful. You see sides of her you just don't normally. One scene in particular is kinda heartbreaking....she basically has a full blown anxiety attack before a meet and great with fans....and is shaking and crying and downing alcohol to calm down. She's such an empathic human being....and it's eye opening to see how difficult being emotionally available and vulnerable every night on tour can be for her. It's just a great doc all around.
Her covers and collaborations are just phenomenal. As always very interesting to listen to your reaction. But who are you communicating with in the background?😃 I like it! Adds nerve and emotion to the reaction. If you would like to hear more love songs with Aurora try Exist for love which in some ways is up the same ally as Alone in the night, or, In boxes which is a tad more aggressive.😂(she sings about a woman who bring men home but kills them after the fun is over and put them in you guess what? Or try her collaboration with the Chemical brothers or Sub Urban. The first just a lit of fun but with Aurira in a space suit fighting monsters and the latter just wow cool! 💪🏼👍🙏🏼
@@timgrodesky4694 Agreed. In Boxes (especially live) is one of my favorites! Dark, but cheeky at the same time, and she seemed to really enjoy performing it.
It has a '60's sort of smoothness about it . Perhaps its a verse too long. I love it though .. she is the mistress of harmony. Whenever she harmonises its always awesome. I love her collaborations :) I cant think of a single song of hers I don't like. And she is so universally admired .... I did buy Sondre's album this song is from and its a very nice collection of songs.

Love your comment! I felt the same way about the coat, I was touched by that as well. 😊
@@StrateleStudios Arrangements were done by Sondre Lerche and Alexander von Mehren. String arrangements by Sean O'Hagan :)
They're on the roof of the same building where Aurora sang Warrior for her two fans in the HAIK documentary.
So cool!!!!!😃
Your best analysis yet.
Ah, thanks man! 🤝😊😊😊
What a luxury to be able to get aurora to sing your song after hearing her voice in tour head while writing the lyrics.
No kidding!
I’m quite late to the party on this, but I’d like to request Sondre Lerche - Two Way Monologue(live)
AND the song SENTIMENTALIST(music video) is also a MUST.
Sondre is a fantastic artist, songwriter and musician from Bergen, Norway. Same as Aurora
Both are from Bergen. Sondre lives in New York I believe.
Nostalgia completamente good pick bro
Thank you? Panchio!
What a love story.
Right?!
Thank you Jeff for listening to the absolute end.
There's an excellent excellent documentary on Aurora called "Once."
It's here on youtube.....and documents her life/career between her 1st album and the recording and release of her 2nd album.
My friend, you need to come over to Patreon it’s all there! 😄
@@StrateleStudios Oh yeah? Ok....I do need to get on that. Thanks!

In Boxes Live would be a great choice to do a complete 180. Love that playful side to her!
@@timgrodesky4694 Agreed. In Boxes (especially live) is one of my favorites! Dark, but cheeky at the same time, and she seemed to really enjoy performing it.
I was talking to YOU, Andreas! 😉
@@StrateleStudios I thought so at first, but you looked away from me! It left me feeling abandoned!😂
LOve your reaction Jeff! This is a big favorite with me too, love how good their voices match.
Sondre's surname Lerche is the german spelling of Lark (as in the songbird). You might like the title track from his second album - Two Way Monologue - ruclips.net/video/CmQyasIZYZ0/видео.html , great melody, fun video.
That is so fun!!! Love it
You should react to Jacob Collier - All Night Long (Official Video) amazing version!

I love when they sing in unison . . . so delicious.
Ah yes!
Song of the Year?
Right?!
This could have been written for a Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn movie. Most likely buy Henry Mancini.
Haha, you did well ;) I’ll respond to anything resembling my name 😂
And thank you for this heartfelt reaction! I knew you’d love it 🥰
