I remember before their first album came out, I dloaded all I could find and this was one of my favorites. Then I bought the album and was pissed cause it wasn't on it.
With what's going on with Chris' widow and Soundgarden I don't wonder why the rest of Audioslave are not rushing to bring forth these unreleased tracks or re-releases. Hopefully the situation gets solved somewhat soon.
I have this song from a bootleg copy of the Audioslave Demo. It's called 'Rage Against the Machine featuring Chris Cornell'. It's basically rough versions of the self titled Audioslave album. But this track is still awesome. I was dissapointed that they never put it on an official album or played it live.
I remember when I first heard this. Was before the 1st album came out and a few songs leaked and this was one of them. I thought this song would def be on the album. As many have said "Why wasnt this released" I agree 100%.
I haven’t heard this song in 22 years, I’ve been looking for it for like 19 years. This was scrubbed from the internet for a long time. I remember hearing this on the radio, once in 2002, and then never again until right now.
I met Tom Morello in 2007 in NYC and I asked him specifically about this song. It's called "Gold", which he descrived as the jam! There is a fully recorded studio version of this sitting in the can. I thought it would have been a part of an anniversary release of the record [as there are at least 3 others completely done, recorded and ready] should that day ever come. It's unconsionable that people keep Cornell's music that we've never heard from us now.
I am sorry if anyone possibly thinks RATM is better than audioslave.. It's hysterical to me.. Cornell has one of the purest rock voices, and if you listen to interviews even the members were awestruck to work with him. Listen, nothing wrong with liking RATM, but Cornell makes any band better instantly. It's not even an argument. He can't rap as good as Zack..why that matters I don't know..
maybe because the lyrics in Rage songs actually mean something? Not hating on Chris Cornell, he's obviously a talented vocalist and songwriter, but he just doesn't appeal to me as much and Soundgarden happens to be my least favourite grunge band. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Audioslave happened, I just don't understand why there needs to be a comparison and divide of good music, when in fact anything authentic is equally valid and only comes down to personal preference
Wow, I feel exactly the opposite. Tom, Tim, and Brad wrote some slow, boring songs under Cornell; that never happened with Zack. RATM is way better, no contest. Audioslave, a great band in their own right, is inferior to both RATM and Soundgarden. The only reason someone can possibly hold this opinion is because they prefer Cornell's singing over Zack's rapping. Going strictly by the music, RATM provided tons more energy and innovation than Audioslave ever did. IMO, the best song Audioslave ever did is Moth. That one is up there with their best work as RATM.
thisisAB Well there, you've just answered your question: Personal preferences is always backed by a personal opinion no matter where you go, so any sort of thoughts in anybody's head thinking that you could get away without opinions being thrown out is ridiculous and a mere fantasy.
Michael De Leon True man, but that was the entire point of being with Cornell in the first place, because you cant write slow songs with a rapper. Even the members stated this.

But sincerely, Tom's voice talking about the song, I can assure you it wasn't him that kept that song off the record. My hunch is that it was Tim! He also veto'd 'Sound of a Gun' off the next record too btw!

@nzephier Unless I'm mistaken this as well as demo's from the original Audioslave CD were leaked by a radio station months before the release date. At the time Audioslave wasn't even named Audioslave yet and I've read they were considering the name Civilian.

This song was recorded for the first Audioslave album when the band was still known as "Civilian." Some demos the band had recorded during pre-production were leaked, including this recording. The more time that passes the more I feel like Audioslave was the last band gave me that true feeling of excitement when hearing new rock music.
Big Wreck has done that for me lately, but no one else has since Audioslave.
