  • Welcome to Fashion &… with me Scott Schiavone, Fashion Curator.
For episode 3 of season 5, we’ll be delving into the history and evolution of the fine art of fashion illustration, examining and celebrating the work of many skilled and talented artists and visionaries over the past 400 years!
This is Fashion &… Illustration: The Art and Craft of Drawing Fashion
From the renaissance to the years following the Second World War, Fashion Illustration enjoyed prominence and success as the primary source of pictorial representation of fashionable dress and accessories.
Evolving from the 16th century and reaching its pinnacle in the 19th and early 20th centuries, Fashion illustration, like all art forms, has had its highs and lows.
In the late 1930s, the advent of fashion photography began to eclipse the once flourishing art form. However, what set fashion illustration apart from photography was its ability to stand alone as a works of art on its own merit.
In this episode, focussing specifically on depictions of female dress and accessories, we’ll be exploring the art and craft of drawing fashion from the past 400 years, focussing on distinct periods of creativity and those illustrators whose style and flair reinvigorated this most creative art form.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Unfortunately, I had to edit because of time and chose to highlight some lesser known illustrators ❤️
