A master class from someone like Steve Huston would be costly and hard to find at a local university, yet it's on here for free. I can only assume that the folks who gave it a thumbs down are either living masters who are sure they could give a better lesson (sarcasm here), or are more impatient than they are serious about their own drawing skills.
I took me 2 years to genuinely watch this video, on and off , practice and actually take down notes for this. Finally finished it, hope I don't take two more years to actually go through the main lessons.
New Masters Academy, thank you so much! I have only just finished the 14 time poses and feel I have genuinely jumped massively with progress with this video alone, notes from it and the practice time allotted. Just flicking back through initial heads from the start of the video to this last time pose, I can see a huge difference. Again, thank you!
consulting this in 2023 and I just wanted to say thank you for uploading such WONDERFUL and USEFUL advice! i fell out of good practice with my portrait drawing after dropping out of college and its been a real struggle getting back into it. this video gave me tools that opened a well of potential in my artwork and i cannot express my gratitude enough.
This helps so much because for a 10 year old for me, I’m learning quite a lot and this is filling my mind for more pieces! It’s truly amazing how he speaks about the techniques! It’s pure life changing 🥳
I recently subscribed to NMA, I have been going through the teachings of Steve Huston and Bill Perkins, both of them are amazing, the composition classes by bill Perkins are like really good, and Steve Huston explains everything not to quote him but in a "simple yet characteristic" manner that you actually remember it, but more importantly you understand it. People generally think art is a god given talent, partially it can be true but the bigger part of art is to understand it, knowing where you go wrong and how to correct it, is a bigger much better part of art. I have learned a lot from these two instructors, and I am hoping that I will learn much much more in the future. Thank you!
I am a beginner and I learned so much within the two to three days I spent on this video alone when I have time. I feel so much more confident and I just want to say thank you. I am two hours and fifteen minutes in and I haven't gotten bored once. Thank you again! 😊🤗😚🖌️🎨🙌🤝
Him explaining how different your drawing can look based on the skill construction lines or even body. Like egg shape vs chizzled looks. Is soo clear and gives different results. This man is so clear in his teaching 🤯

❤️❤️ I had to sub! THANK YOU!!! I am 40 years old and am just now trying to do something with my art. I cannot afford Art school, so I am gathering what I can from videos and I work along with them. This video is perfect! Thank you for taking the time to do this for us. You don’t know how appreciated it is! ❤️❤️
I'm currently attending college for a studio art degree and this is so much more informative and comprehensive than any of the classes I've taken to date -thank you Sir so much, your students sure are lucky to have you!
+New Masters Academy Yeah! You should be proud of the awesome work that you are doing. I can't wait to get my own annual subscription! But, for now, thank you for all free content. PS.: NMA is my dream team of art teachers.
Ive always put drawing off because i had the thought i wasnt gonna be good, afraid of making mistakes, and that it was too late. But i realised it's only late if one is dead. I cant wait to start practicing, this video was super helpful thank you.
I've been drawing and painting for 20 years and this is the best method for drawing the head I have ever encountered. If you're just starting out (hell, if you've been drawing all your life) take the time to really study this video.
You have one video out of hundreds that they have in their collection, if you want access to all their videos you have to pay the same amount as average tuition costs for an art institute. So no, you don't have the internet to tell you the same core art praxes as an online school or actual school does. The internet is GREAT for some things, you can get by without going to school very easily, but to get an edge you'll likely need to pay for the real deal.
We charge $39/month for full access to our entire library of content. There's over 700 hours of content all by master artists and we add a new lesson each week. That's less than tuition to any art school and orders of magnitude less than top art schools. :)
Knowledge can be equally acquired with either the internet or the traditional education system. I think the point here is 'the more you pay/invest, the more you get'.
I've always watched drawning tutorials and stuff like this but never, I said NEVER, found this qualitty of content. I mean, I just have no words to describe how much I learned at freacking 36 minutes of video. Thank you very much!
I've tried so many art classes that endlessly frustrated me because no one could explain WHY some faces looked right and others seemed off. Thank you so much!
I’ve been drawing basically my whole life, and have always self taught myself and I consider myself a very good artist in terms of creativity, but my human forms have always been lacking and I’ve finally put aside my pride and have been trying to get more serious about studying drawing and learning how to draw things with correct proportions and proper depth. This man has taught me more in half an hour than I ever thought possible, and it’s already made a significant change in my understanding of how to draw the human head.I’ll be finishing this course as well as checking out all his other videos. Thanks for taking the time to make this and being so thorough!
great!!! I have painted for years and it is something natural in me. I never went to an art school, just have taken three classes in my life. But now with this video I am going ahead right on with my paintings. I am painting all the time in different mediums, but this is a great teaching. Thank you so much, I wish I could go to your school. That would have been my dream. I am 69 years of age and have no money, but painting is my passion. I'll keep practicing and with your teachings I will do much better.
this was SO helpful, even as a person who's drawn for an upwards amount of 10 years, give or take, I still feel like I've taken little things, little tidbits of information, that I haven't thought about previously from this video.
I *wasn't interested in fine art until I saw this video.* You make it so simple and so interesting! I'm now interested in looking at fine art pieces by myself. 😁 Other than that, I have nothing new to say. I can only repeat the well-deserved praises others are giving to this video. Amazing lesson. Possibly the best on RUclips. ✨👍
I come back and watch this lesson once every 1 to 3 years. Every sketchbook I've had from the moment I found this video until the present has has notes on this lesson. I am 4 pages away from finishing this sketchbook and thought to myself "it's been a while since I watched that 3 hour long video on drawing faces!" 😂 I love this video so much I accidentally Pavloved myself to watch it regularly. One day when I'm not poor, I will have the time and money to invest in the full lesson series.
Thank you so much! I’m 14 and trying to learn art, I didn’t know where to start and you have no idea how much this helps, when I was younger I had no idea where to start or what to do! I was always following the wrong sources and I gave up so many times, and felt discouraged, I was at the verge of giving up art completely because anatomy annoyed me, I was thinking of starting to get serious again and failed to find the right recourses! This explains so much! I fully understand and I’m very grateful! This is so helpful years of not understanding and this helped god bless
I HIGHLY recommend drawing along! Doing drawing with any tutorial helps sooooo much and practicing with this class is a great idea considering this class is amazing on its own.
Everyone: watching to improve their art skills Me: watching the whole video at 3am in the impossible goal of remembering everything only to create a stickman the next morning

I plan on taking Visual Arts either my sophomore or junior year.

Beautiful. Watching the modern day masters draw and create inspire me even further and help me realize how much more I need to do, from how gently he holds his material to breaking everything down step-by-step and not rushing
I love this! I love how easily it is explained. It's like Steve mentioned at the end of the video, it's a lot of information to remember and should be re-watched and practiced. Exactly what I needed!
I've been making so many mistakes, I've always use to put the eye not in the centre but one the 1/3 mark and I've always used circles to represent the skull instead or an egg shape so the it's always to low, this video really helped me alot. Thank you.
After only 30 minutes i was able to draw a head which don't look like a alien-pillow with nose and eyebrows. this was probably the most usefull drawing video i ever watch! (and i watch a lot...)
Me: it lasts 3 hours long i'm not gonna watch it till the end Also me: thanks god for letting this man upload such an amazing video wished it lasted longer
I’ve been drawing my whole life but I’m 14 and starting to get pretty serious about it and I have even start painting so I want to make my work the best I can in my life.

I would just like to thank NMA for the online resources, and in particular Steve's explanations in his videos on gesture and constructing the body, his concept of simple yet characteristic parts was an eye opener for me. I learned art and design from university, but the information and explanations from NMA was well beyond anything I learned during my 3 years there. I'm finally able to understand the process of drawing now and have even begun teaching others for the first time in my life based off the knowledge I learned from NMA. Many thanks. :)

I scoured your website. If all the learning content is so comprehensive and tangible, it's a treasure chest for all artists. Unfortunately I can not afford that despite good price-performance ratio. Keep up the good work!

Steve Huston is my new hero. This type of clear and simple instruction is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm definitely signing up for his remaining courses after I finish this one.

A very relaxing video, Steve takes the time necessary to illustrate difficult ideas and concepts and doesn't rush through it. Very well done and thank you for your generosity.
I'd never noticed the egg shape of the skull. That probably explains why, when I draw heads and faces from my imagination, I often have to readjust the skull shape. thanks.

I can only assume that the folks who gave it a thumbs down are either living masters who are sure they could give a better lesson (sarcasm here), or are more impatient than they are serious about their own drawing skills.
Surely they just accidentally hit the wrong button!
@@gnuPirate 5.4 people. that's insanely too much. like wth, is it gonna hurt someone to teach this way? self centered idiots
steve is very easy to listen to, with a very smooth voice and has a very straight forward way of explaining everything, excellent lesson
I took me 2 years to genuinely watch this video, on and off , practice and actually take down notes for this. Finally finished it, hope I don't take two more years to actually go through the main lessons.

this is by far the most comprehensive and helpful video on the topic I've ever seen
We love to hear this!

consulting this in 2023 and I just wanted to say thank you for uploading such WONDERFUL and USEFUL advice! i fell out of good practice with my portrait drawing after dropping out of college and its been a real struggle getting back into it. this video gave me tools that opened a well of potential in my artwork and i cannot express my gratitude enough.
This helps so much because for a 10 year old for me, I’m learning quite a lot and this is filling my mind for more pieces! It’s truly amazing how he speaks about the techniques! It’s pure life changing 🥳

Real please answer
Thank you!
Tanisha Aggarwal we are glad you’re getting something out of our program. Please keep up the hard work! 👍🏼👍🏼
Deebo Nash thanks for saying so. As you said there is no one or even a best way to draw the head. It depends on your requirements and skill level. We have hundreds hours of content on draw drawing and painting on our website. Https://nma.art

Hi are you okay now??
❤️❤️ I had to sub! THANK YOU!!! I am 40 years old and am just now trying to do something with my art. I cannot afford Art school, so I am gathering what I can from videos and I work along with them. This video is perfect! Thank you for taking the time to do this for us. You don’t know how appreciated it is! ❤️❤️
I'm currently attending college for a studio art degree and this is so much more informative and comprehensive than any of the classes I've taken to date -thank you Sir so much, your students sure are lucky to have you!

Fuck college I have internet !
Exactly :)
A student is one with a desire and eagerness to learn, not necessarily someone who is enrolled in college.
20 minutes into this video and it taught me so much than all the art videos in youtube combined.
Steve Huston makes masters look like amateurs. What an amazing artist. Thank you so much for posting!
In 30 minutes you thought me more than my art teacher ever could in 4 years because she didn’t think i could do art, Thank you
I am 65 & learning so much to help my art directions. Loved his interview with Proko also.
ruclips.net/video/MohOPI5Q1TA/видео.html
I come back and watch this lesson once every 1 to 3 years.
Every sketchbook I've had from the moment I found this video until the present has has notes on this lesson. I am 4 pages away from finishing this sketchbook and thought to myself "it's been a while since I watched that 3 hour long video on drawing faces!" 😂 I love this video so much I accidentally Pavloved myself to watch it regularly.
One day when I'm not poor, I will have the time and money to invest in the full lesson series.
I appreciate you time. This was very informative and helpful in many ways. Thank you.
im almost 40 who has never drawn or painted before but really want to now for some reason..
subscribed to NMA today.
fingers crossed 😇 🤞
I woke up and this is what was playing on my phone,,, still an artist even in my sleep
The sail boat method is no joke, miraculous. Works a lot quicker than the loomis method, captures the gesture, and it's more efficient to.
Everyone: watching to improve their art skills
Me: watching the whole video at 3am in the impossible goal of remembering everything only to create a stickman the next morning
fish in a cup watch it through, then tomorrow do it again but this time get a sketchbook and draw along. 👍🏼
same but its 5am haha

I need to try your subscription service. I have to get my art skills on a professional level and this seems like a great way to do that.
No arguments here. :)
I'm in an Arts high school and i'm signed up for Orchestra. My school offers visual arts as well as other arts and i was a bit bummed out when i realized i couldn't do both music and art. Beautiful. Watching the modern day masters draw and create inspire me even further and help me realize how much more I need to do, from how gently he holds his material to breaking everything down step-by-step and not rushing
11 minutes in and my self taught mistakes are mostly corrected lol this is a great video
right!?
Ryan McGale yeah this man is an art god. He's so helpful, I want him to be my art teacher.
Thank you.
Skadoosh Meh you weren't teaching yourself well enough...
After only 30 minutes i was able to draw a head which don't look like a alien-pillow with nose and eyebrows. this was probably the most usefull drawing video i ever watch! (and i watch a lot...)

I'm an artist and I'm really good at art but this taught me a lot of good techniques. Very useful.

Thanks for the upload! It's the most detailed and understandable art lesson I've found online so far. Each section of this tutorial was well timed, traceable and fully explained. I scoured your website. If all the learning content is so comprehensive and tangible, it's a treasure chest for all artists. Unfortunately I can not afford that despite good price-performance ratio. Keep up the good work!

This was such a great lesson, and I really thank you with all my heart!!! It really shows what an excellent teacher you are! Thank you so much for your generosity, and it's just makes me so happy to know that there are still people like you in this world! - Patrizia
A very relaxing video, Steve takes the time necessary to illustrate difficult ideas and concepts and doesn't rush through it. Very well done and thank you for your generosity.
I'd never noticed the egg shape of the skull. That probably explains why, when I draw heads and faces from my imagination, I often have to readjust the skull shape. thanks.
Nevets t. Smith there’s a developmental reason for the similarity. Both the egg 🥚 and the skull have to pass through the pelvic floor during birth.
