I'm glad to see even Chad has some care with the thumb on the first few shots of a new ball. I had too many wrist injuries from thumb problems and gave up went 2H and have never been happier bowling.

I just had all of my specs redone for the first time in years. I only live a half hour from Buddies pro shop in Connecticut and Chris Forry knows his stuff. He did everything from measuring my span, to recording me throw a whole game, to putting tape on my ball to measure my PAP and then going through my arsenal. Turns out my span was too short and my thumb was a little too big. My new fit feels the best it has in a very long time.

I see the house mention buddies all the time. I'm going to have to check them out. My pro shop guy has never done any of that with me. My fit just feels off. It's a three hour drive for me though, but it seems like he knows what he's doing.

@@Ethan428 Packy and Prather know Chris. Believe me, it's worth the trip. Chris will make a spec sheet for you after going through the process and any ball you want drilled in the future, they'll drill it and ship it out to you. I highly recommend making an appointment first because they do get busy. He knows pretty much everything about the game and can definitely help you out.

My pro shop guy said he sold five of the same balls that I bought never checked out my Pap or anything then I checked out a couple of the other balls that he drilled. They’re all drilled the same way and after I bowled with it, I saw my track was running Over part of my fingertips and he said I must be doing something wrong. I won’t buy another one from him ever again! And when I asked him about the specification, all he said was angular

Great stuff! Would love to hear more about what pitches you came up with. I know some basic things from research on the net but it would be nice to hear what a little stiff fingers means in numbers, how the gripping of the arm (Coke can) and the amount of stretch in the webbing translates into numbers also. I’ve been to the Taylormade Golf Kingdom fitting for golf and know how that compares to many of the basic golf club fittings in my area. I don’t feel that I have a top notch fitter for my hand in my area so I try II’m always wondering if I have the best fit for my game. As for personal stats, I have the tools (pro sec and dillo) and use your VLS for suggested layouts using the stats that I came up with. Very good vid otherwise and happy to see this type of stuff coming out by Storm. Also, seeing the ROY in the background was cool! My coworker just showed me a pic of two of them from a JR Event back in their Jr days. He was 12 then and my coworker was 14.

Unfortunately most of the pro shops that I’ve been to do not operate like this. The ones that I’ve visited usually have 10-20 balls waiting to be drilled, 5 customers waiting to buy balls, etc and another 5 people just hanging out. I haven’t had a ball drilled in 10 years that the person drilling it actually came out of the pro shop and watched me bowl first. 🤷‍♂️

My PAP is 5¼ & 1¾^ which to me is the closest to the 5 & 1^, and I used the layouts from that specific PAP. I live in Australia, and it's not something that pro shops there would often do so I had to find the PAP, Speed, Revs, Tilt and Rotation myself.

Can anyone come down to the storm testing center to get fitted? I'm in Vancouver Washington and no pro shops in the Vancouver/ Portland area drill based on pap, and definitely don't watch you bowl or find your rev rate, tilt, ball speed, ect. There is one pro shop that has 3 guys who work in it. They are all 70 years old or more, used to bowl professionally back in the 70s, and are stuck in their ways and won't embrace the new technology. One of them told me when i was looking to buy a new ball that the storm tropical surge is just as good as the summit or the journey, they are all round and how much the hook doesn't matter. One of the other old guys, i went in to just look at the balls they had and all that was on the wall were plastic spare balls, the wall was 75% empty. I said "you don't have any good balls? He told me the plastic balls are just as good as any other. Then he asked me would i rather have a ball that goes straight and strikes, or a ball that hooks but doesn't strike. I told him that scenario doesn't exist and a ball with a weight block that hits at an angle is going to strike better than a plastic ball going straight at the pins. He asked me who the professional bowler was there, and said i didn't know what I'm talking about. I just shook my head and told him about had changed since he competed and walked out. I'm not going to put the alley on blast because they have some REALLY great people that work for them, but the "pro shop" is a joke. I'm going to have to buy a pro sect and get my own stats i guess so i can take my ball in somewhere else and tell them what layout I want. Or travel hours to shop that will take the time. I want to start competing locally but not until i round or my arsenal a bit more. I have 2 balls waiting to get drilled and 2 that i know the layout isn't right for me, they don't react like they should. Ok rant over

I just got back into bowling after like 30 years. I've been going now for about two months, and now practice about 8 games a day, at least 4 days a week. I have a low rev rate, but picked up an exotic gem, an absolute, and a black widow 2.0, as well as a Mix for spares. the Ex pro bowler and decades long pro shop owner operator that drilled my balls never once looked for my PAP, or my rev rate other than eyeballing me making a few shots. I've got a Black Widow 3 coming, and have no Idea where in Connecticut I can get this kind of evaluation before drilling what is now my fifth ball... I want it done RIGHT. How the hell am I supposed to get better if I can't even start off with the best possible chances. Don't get me wrong, he did measure my hand to make sure the layout fit, but as far as layout position, he just gave me a very basic pin up over the ring finger layout position and I have no idea if it is actually right for me or not.

So I came back last year after 15 years away, and this is the part of the game that I’m struggling with, from the time I started bowling at 4 to when I quit at 27 I had the same man at our pro shop who was just as thorough as this guy was, so there was never really a need to learn all the information, as he would know exactly what I needed, but now he unfortunately passed away, and I don’t have a great understanding of the analytics involved, so watching these videos I’m basically clueless, which is always a little embarrassing when people start talking about the numbers and things, my question I guess is where can I find a video that teaches all the analytics of bowling, I’ve looked and have had a hard time finding a complete guide.
