- About a month ago I discovered a Minecraft Horror Series that astonished me. Not only was it just not scary, but it also stole ideas from other creators and was boring as sin. So, I invited my friends to blindly react to the video, but what I didn't expect was to get distracted by my friends insanity and losing track of the plot relatively quickly. What was supposed to be a scathing review of a terrible ARG turned into a giggle-fest at crappy TikToks.

I would consider it, because there are decent ideas at play with the ARG. There's some good scares, some good suspense, but the mystery is non-existent, the ending is lukewarm, the scares are not scary, and it uses stolen ideas for no reason other than to pad out the series.

I watched this entire ARG and I can confidently say that it's either bait for bigger youtubers like RetroGamingNow, or it's just made by a really, really impressionable kid, but I think the first option is the most likely:
-From the very start, the ARG follows a generic premise that we've seen a million times: *non gender specific human being of a darker hue* (original character DO NOT STEAL) is stalking the player, then weird things happen (E.g: The game starts acting weird, there's signs because of course there's signs, the computer crashes and makes a Wii noise [Classic ghost stuff], etc.)
-There's a lot of the ARG that is just on its knees, BEGGING to be analyzed, rewatched, and reviewed; the wall of signs in front of the player's house is the most egregious example: it's just a wall of blurry, generic text that's meant to "intrigue" you and either pause or replay the video, upon further examination it's a journal that...basically reveals nothing, it's just lore for the sake of lore, none of it matters because it's JUST a journal, it doesn't even make sense contextually: You're trapped in a minecraft world and your first thought is to make a journal? Short-sighted and nonsensical detais like these make good videos go bad.
-Like you said, it's piggybacking and straight up copy pasting ideas or concepts from other unrelated ARGs that the creators probably didn't give permission, even if markus101 went so far off the rails that it ended up back at the railyard, I highly doubt the creator of Mark101 was expecting (or wanted) people to do something like this.
-It's so catclysmically lazy that they couldn't even be bothered to make a chase sequence in an episode where the protagonist is being chased, he just runs in random directions (at times doubling back on himself) while turning around like he's being chased by spy tf2, you can't even blame it on old minecraft or lack of experience, whoever's behind this can clearly do foley and edit existing sound effects, as shown in LITERALLY THE FIRST VIDEO EVER UPLOADED.
-It's just so generic that it feels like it's trying to play it safe, and what little it tries to do by itself clearly doesn't work: All the traps and stuff that are set up for the player mean nothing because the player just keeps coming back like nothing happened, it's so focused on being formulaic that the few times it tries anything new, it immediately reverses it, because if the main character dies or gets lost then they won't be able to stretch the series out for another 20 episodes.
-It's painfully staged, it's not even trying to pretend like it's an ARG, the "help" video is by far the worst, it's the one with the obsidian walls and the signs, you can't just put signs everywhere and pretend like it's your story, you have to do something else, it's the minecraft equivalent of putting black text on a white background on the screen.
-It's always acting like there's a deeper meaning to things, playing into the idea that this is just bait for ignorant essay youtubers who just see *non gender specific human being of a darker hue* and old minecraft versions and go "I could make a video out of this".
-The story is so painfully not scary and not engaging that it's a sin, the entire point of an ARG is a story you're supposed to follow and interact with, and yet the only form of interaction we ever have is reading an update page where 70% of the page is just "???" because that's *ScAAaAaaAaary*
-Unrelated, but I absolutely HATE, and I mean HATE, the "cut to black when spooky noise" thing, it makes me want to strangle someone, the creators must think I'm a baby, it's one of the most generic and boring ways to end a video, and it's apparently supposed to make me wonder what happens next. The only thing it makes me wonder is how little the creators think of the viewers.
There's probably more that I missed, but still, the fact that this list is that long is just a sign of how little the creator/s cared about both the series and the viewer's experience, you made the right choice by choosing to watch random shorts, because they actually provide some form of entertainment, primitve as they can be, at least you're not staring at a black screen, to enjoy fractured you'd need to be lobotomized and barely sentient, then and only then could you get any form of stimulation out of it.
You know that Gorillaz song that's supposed to be a parody of generic pop that tries to be deep and ends up being worse than literally nothing? Rockit? This is literally that, minecraft man walks to the something blablablablablablabla, old minecraft blablablablablablabla, *non gender specific human being of a darker hue* blablablablablablabla, the end.
Really well written post! I was debating making a longer video actually breaking down the ARG, but it honestly just felt like too much work to end up just pointing out the story inconsistencies and stolen concepts. At the end of the day, if the creator cannot come up with a cohesive story, why should I bother breaking the whole thing down?

I feel like I said it in the video, but I genuinely don't "hate" Fractured's series, but the fact that it keeps changing plots and steals concepts is genuinely so horrible from a content standpoint. And if he's everything you said, well, a lot of it lines up, unfortunately.

I could go for some Hinecraft Mungergames with some CajunBanadian.
I would be able to be okay with it not having a cohesive story, or even taking inspiration from other shit, but the problem really is that there's nothing to appreciate, no performance, no acting, no interactivity, no realism, no larping, no sets, no set pieces, no interesting characters, hell, no distinctive characters at all, no ambience, no music, no editing art, no interesting distortion or visuals, no atmosphere, no story, no reason. I honestly don't even mind the part where it's just text cause Marble Hornets and other webseries/ARGs/creepypastas have a lot of text or are comprised of text, and at that point that's just literature, which is great, but Marble Hornets has, 1. A well written story, with well written characters, a plot, a very unique and specific concept, an alternative take on Slenderman that was way different from what he was seen as back in the day, 2. an interesting mystery that while not immediately, it developed into something very cool and tragic, it actually has themes and a message and story to tell, it is simultaneously a character exploration as much as it is a story about mental illness and the existential horror of how something like that can ruin yours and others life, 3. it has ambience and beautiful audiovisual art with totheark and a lot of the cinematography and distortion are some of the best pieces of live action media I've ever seen, some of my favorite shots of all time are from MH, and 4. the dialogue and performance is wonderful and goes from really good and real and sad, to funny and dumb (specially with Jay) which I love and I consider sillyness a core part of the slenderseries genre. The text part of MH is not just the minority, specially at the end of the series, but it serves as a way of character exploration and really clever exposition, it's written by Jay and a few other characters later on, analysing the footage, which is the original basis of the series, it's like a documentary or a RUclips video, where the editor is commenting and giving their thoughts on what they're seeing, which is basically any sort of first person narrative in general, just a very specific version of it, and this ARG, or webseries I'd like to call it, has none of that, there's no reason for anything and the messages conveyed through the text are not from a character, or have any artistic or interesting story reason to be, it's just nothing. Creepypasta is just straight up literature and modern gothic, the good ones have a reason to exist and a story to tell. Even the bad ones have something to give imo. This is just random shit put together without reason, which is NOT a bad thing! The problem is that there's no stylization of atmosphere to justify that, there's no interesting artistic value, there's no cool visuals or editing or distortion or music or audio or structures. And even then, I think it is harmless, I think it is charming in how funny and kinda dumb and bad it is, and at the end of the day, you can just go watch Petscop.
Something to give, like a backup supply of text-format analysis under a nonsense video. There really is value everywhere. ㊙

An idea about an arachnophobia-themed ARG has popped up in my mind for some reason. Maybe because I think the spiders in Minecraft are terrifying. Maybe a player accidentally summoning a spider demon entity and the entity summons a spider army to go after them

Urbanspook is a bad, tasteless ARG with a tone-deaf, allegedly homophobic creator. Nothing about Urbanspook is a winner.
It makes me so sad bc I honestly think some of the art looks pretty cool, but the story itself is just completely awful and doesn’t really seem to be going anywhere. Good horror writing isn’t just disgusting things happening one after another without some kind of followable plot. And the gruesome manner of the crimes along with the many victims that are YOUNG CHILDREN makes me steer in the complete opposite direction. I’m tired of horrible things happening to children in horror media, especially because they focus more on the actual doing of the event rather than the consequences and trauma that come from them like they should. Urban spook is definitely talented in the painting department, but there’s just so much to dislike that it outweighs it all.
Oh trust me. One day there will be. There's always a bigger fish.
