Must be very irritating answering all these questions from people that think they know what they’re talking about as if you haven’t been doing your job for so long. Sincerely wanna thank you for all your patience, profesionalism and these videos you make that help educate upcoming groomers.
Buy stuffed animals at the dollar store and practice on them...brush then out and make them nice and fluffy first..that's what I still do and I've been a groomer 11 years lol hand scissoring is an art and takes time... the fur on stuffed animals is the closest thing to a real dog or cat lol I was taught how to groom from a certified master groomer and she's who told me to practice on stuffed animals with the scissor work lol
I own a pomeranian but I was told to never to shave them or their hair won't grow back correctly.... now I'm confused since you just shaved her body with clippers... will this dog's hair still grow back correctly ? This cut is super cute and if it doesn't actually hurt or change the hair growth I would want to try it on my baby, but if it affects hair growth than I'll just stick to the scissor trims she gets now.
Please never shave your Pomeranian for their coat doesn’t come back like it’s supposed to look when shaved. Their coat is not to be shaved. I took my very first Pom to a groomer for a trim for she was having her what we call “Ugly stage” where the Pom is growing their hair and looks uneven. I told the groomer to just trim her to even the length of her hair. But when I picked her up she’s all shaved and that was her very first grooming, I got really pissed coz I did not asked for her to be shaved. Now my poor girl is 6 years old and her coat grows very ugly and uneven. As in the thigh parts never grow long and you can tell where the blades went thru the coat coz it is shaped that way in both thighs and on her torso there are so many parts that are growing uneven and sparse. I went and learned how to groom my own dogs after that. She was my very first dog and now I have two more dogs and all three of em never see any groomer but me.
It takes forever to grow back in properly and you have to constantly trim the undercoat to match the overcoat until it does. Please do not shave your pom. They cannot maintain their body temperature with it short like this and it causes them to develop alopecia. Many groomers will just shave it anyway without warning the owners or the owners care more about how the dog looks than the fact that it is overheating and request the cut regardless. I had to have my pom shaved when I first found her as a stray because her hair was too matted to save and it was a couple years before her coat grew back in properly. Always ask if the groomer knows how to do an actual cut as a lot of places have groomers that only know how to use clippers and shave them down. I learned how to cut her myself last time I moved because only one groomer in the whole salon knew how to do anything but shave her. Now I mostly just take her for the other stuff like her glands, teeth brushing and nails. And if there's not an experienced groomer available to cut her properly then they just do a bath with the furminator to deshed her with a sanitarty trim. Then I take her home and do the rest of the actual cut myself.
All depends if the owner is willing to take the risk and in this case they were. All clients are explained prior the cons. Also, a shaving them down will mess up their coat a lot more than a comb attachment.
What kind of shaver are you using? I have 2 very nervous Pom Chiweenie’s who are so hard to groom and they shake something awful. I have to start doing myself. Please help
You are sooo Good at your job. I'm a hairstylist and have been grooming my pom for the past yr. He still hates it🙄. I think I do a pretty good job. Your Fantastic 👌👍 thanks for the video 😍
I really enjoy your videos but I prefer without the electronic/ techno music. I really enjoy the relaxing sounds of scissors and running water, as opposed to this repetitive beat. I may just be too old for it, who knows. I would like to subscribe but may be listening to your videos in mute from now on.
I love the lion cut and you did an amazing job! I have a 5 month old pom and he still has his puppy fur. What are the negatives to this cut for him? Would you recommend it? Thanks!
no. don't do it. Some poms never grow their coats back out correctly after being shaved. They have a double coat that protects their little bodies and helps them regulate their temperature. I have a 15 y.o. pomeranian and have never even cut her fur short.
@@M0M0F2P0Ms totally agree with you!! I have two Poms and my very first one got her coat really f’d up by the first groomer I took her too for she shaved her. Now my poor little girl grows really ugly coat with lots of spaces that doesn’t grow and some parts are long. So the second Pom we got never knew a groomer at all and I learned how to groom so I can do it my own. Now I have a third dog and all of them only gets groomed by me. Never ever to shave Poms for sure! I was so upset when I saw my girl all shaved while I didn’t asked for her to shave my dog. They really pissed me off too.
Won't this change their coat if you cut that short? ANd what happens to the second layer of a Pomeranian ?? I'm not sure this is a good idea for overall .... And we know this will affect the how it grows back.. I'm confused as to why people would do this... unless they plan to keep the Pom completely cut short all the time. POMs are oddly affected by over cutting.. They may not ever grow back their original hair and some may suffer from this in hair growth. I'm so confused on this
Before cutting down the coat on a Pomeranian groomers must have a conversation with the pet parent letting them know this. In this case, an older gentlemen owns this Pom and is unable to keep up with her very thick coat so he does keep her this length all the time. Instead of a blade I use a comb attachment so it’s not too short or abrasive to the hair follicle. In this case, her fur grows back normally every time. Again, it is the personal decision of the pet parent.
wow i cannot believe u did that in that time😳😳😳 i always thought it was all scissor work!! u killed it i live in a small town and my groomer is booked till forever but i want to learn to do it myself. love your video thank u! do u remember the first time u did a pom?
I don't understand how I see all these poms being perfectly still for grooming, my pom literally becomes a hyperactive floofy blur as soon as I start trying to brush her. Just How >.>
That’s the most patient Pom mine would turn around and snap and grawl and try to make you think they were going to bite but they really are just bluffing
It’s such a cute cut and a lot easier to comb mine are extremely hard to comb out there hair is so thick and long it takes for ever to brush and comb it all they get impatient
Yeah- when I was growing up we had a pom that we always got a teddy bear/lion cut on and my whole family regrets it now that we are more educated. We now have two poms and would never let a razor touch them hahah
Not everyone can keep a long Pom coat, with massive undercoat free of mats and felting. Breeders have altered the original fur over the years. I have had Poms with MAINLY undercoat and the dog suffers when one must groom them down to the skin daily! Moisture also quickly creates felting of the undercoat from a light mist or even another dog licking them. And that lovely “triple coat” can make them suffer dreadfully when non-furry humans are able to sweat and better endure a bit of heat. The coat is also heavy in a mature Pom. I have kept a full show coat on some and have gone for a modified trim to even the lion cut like Lucy has here, depending upon the dog’s individual coat consistency and lifestyle. For me, it is all about the comfort and well-being of each individual dig rather than humans’ “rules” regarding what ought to be.
My Pomeranian is 4 years old, I took him to groomers only twice because both time they botched him. First time, she did something to his anus area, it was naked for months and looked red all the time, maybe she waxed his hair there, I don't know. Second time, different groomer gave him wrong hair cut, cut way to close in some areas, and he started developing alopecia in those areas. His hind legs where butt starts, where it needs to be puffy and round, she cut following the shape of the leg, and very short. I had to spend a lot of money on lotions to stop the alopecia and activate new hair growth. So, since then I decided I will groom him myself. And I am only learning now, and it's not as easy as it looks here. He is walking with chopped fur most of the time, but at least he is now getting bald. Pomeranians are prone to alopecia and black skin disease, so you need to be very careful not to cut too short.
This is cute but not good for a Pomeranian. I hope that the owners are warned that it is not good for poms to have their hair cut this short regularly. The longer the hair allows them to maintain their body temperature. I shaved my pom when she was a puppy because she was a stray and her hair was matted. It was a couple years before her hair grew back in properly getting regular cuts to even out the double coats and was only done because I had no choice. I move a lot and when I cannot find a groomer that actually clips her instead of shaving her then I cut her myself. So many groomers just go to shaving even though it can cause alopecia in poms over time.
All owners are advised of the consequences of doing this to their Pomeranian. I did not shave her as I used a comb attachment to protect her hair follicles. If I would have used a blade - that would cause a lot more damage. Her hair grows back like it was never touched.
Dont think this is good advice. You should never shave a double coated dog. They have a double coat for a reason. If their badly matted and you have no choice then fair enough but this dogs coat is well looked after.
She's so obedient and adorable. The groomer is a boss
Such a good girl. she sits so pretty, you don’t even need a loop!
Jasmin Kianna she’s a pro :) I tell her owner she just stands and sits there for me like a show dog and he doesn’t believe it 🤣🤣 hehehehe

Thought you weren’t supposed to do anymore than trim Pomeranians as it can mess up their coat...
All depends if the owner is willing to take the risk and in this case they were. All clients are explained prior the cons. Also, a shaving them down will mess up their coat a lot more than a comb attachment.
@@PawzAll you should have the professional sense not to do this.
This is so not good 😢you never shave Pomeranian fur !

Thank you! I’m using Chris Christensen Adalynn Rose Shears curves and chunky blenders. You can buy these directly from the site or on Amazon.
Hello and very nice work! What is the gold scissors you are using?
Is it ok to shave pomeranian? Will the fur grow back normal?
Is not okay.
Can I ask where your grooming jacket is from, we don't seem to have anything as nice as that here in Australia. Thank you
