Imagine being this in touch with your self, time, flow and restraint; that you can take yourself on a journey of boundlessly intuitive, feel-good creativity. It blows me away; the strength of presence focus and discipline during such a long solo. Wild. Borlai is absolute TOP tier.
The thing I got most out of this solo is how purposeful the playing is.. everything has musical meaning and although he's a chop monster it's never chops for the sake of showing his chops.. dudes truly telling a cohesive story on the drums. To have that sense of musicality and restraint is masterful. Respect..
Yea I watched it a few times. And I got something different out of it evrything. And I had mixed reviews. But after reading some of these comments from of some more experienced drummers I got a whole different take. First I thought he was great and unbelievable. Then I thought maybe not so much. But 0th0en0 I listened threw some nice headphones first. Then listened just from my cell phone alone. Yea didn't get much out of that. But pou all got some really got some really good opinions on the guys work.
Drummers in the last 2 decades have pushed the boundaries of what's possible (on the kit) by focusing hard on technique - something snare/corps drummers have been doing for longer. Borlai is a shining example of someone who can incorporate these possibilities into musical expression. Rather than just being a technique master - someone who seeks only to impress - he uses technique as a tool. Appropriately. To me, that's just as impressive - and far more entertaining. Thanks for this, Drumeo!
Gergo is one of the best drummers alive at this point. I've been listening to him a lot over the last couple of years. He can do anything and everything. Speed, groove, feel, technicality, etc - he has it all.
I used to hate on this guy because I thought he was just another drummer who has a fast role. Gave him another listen, He's awesome. Thank you for the great lesson, Gergo!
Certainly one of the most entertaining and intelligent solos to be heard anywhere! Everything is for a reason, nothing in the way, just a really well structured and thoughtful solo. Chops, speed, subtlety, power, musicality and most of all - TASTE. Gergo is the man.
I don't think anyone can touch Gergo. His creativity, dynamics, technique, fundamentals, speed, groove, chops, passion, everything. He is on a whole other level and there are some absolutely incredible drummers out there that have raised the bar. But, Gergo has raised the bar even higher.
And here we go. Trying to quantify who beats who. Taking what individual monsters uniquely bring to the table and trying to compare them like a sport. Dumb. Gergo doesn't groove like keith carlock. Different styles. Vinnies rudiments are played only as he can. Marco minnemans 8ndependance is beyond belief. And so on. It degrades their talent. Having said that, If you ask them who has pushed what can be done on drums the most. Not better mind you. Just mind numbing skills, they have said its Virgil Donati.
@@libidooverdrive What drummers have said says 'Virgil' is 'the man' ? I reckon he might be a 'drummer's drummer' but some my favorite bassist and guitarists have had a quite unpleasant experience playing w/ Donati - stating in no uncertain terms that they guy was completely unable (or unwilling) to play for the music.
I would love to meet this guy. Everything he does is so calculated, and precise! Just when you think everything's been done... You see a vid like this that makes you want to hug your drumkit lol
omg omg omg....skill set one side undoubtedly over the top, but the work to come up with different patterns and execute is fabulous, sounds amazing. This is way above...way above...
i seldom have heard such a musical and technical advanced solo!! Often they are very fast, but dont tell storys, and also there are a lot of funky or rhythmik drummers, that cant express themselves because of lack of technique... What you hear here is some really top of the tops drumming! Technically incredible, unbelievably exciting and never boring to listen to and at all the time absolutely part of it self! Amazing!!
I don’t say that easily, but I have never heard better sounding toms than these. A perfect combination of attack and thunderous low end, it’s amazing. Credits to the sound engineer as well.
The Bob Ross of drumming. I could find peace in Bob's beautiful painting and his soothing fro like I find comfort in this guy's masterful drumming and glistening dome. Sheer magic.
Let's be honest, most solos are about self ego, in other word: chops! But this one, MAKES SENSE!! It keeps going somewhere constantly hence i have to keep my breath holding through out this 12-minute journey. I dig it man! I really do!! My only complaint is the ride, for not washing enough. Well, just a personal taste matter.
All I can say is you guys at drumeo that get to watch these guys have the best jobs! I'm sure it's a lot of work but how cool would it be to sit and watch these amazing artists??
Now THIS is how you do a drum solo. Amazing! Great story and development. Awesome sound. Tight as can be. Very creative, versatile and captivating from start to finish. PS: I hear some Jeff Hamilton, René Creemers, Chad Wackerman, Benny Greb, Vinnie Colaiuta, John Blackwell, Steve Gadd, (& ?..) - in that order of appearance. ;-)
I love this piece! Not at all what I was expecting from you... it reminded me a lot of a Jack DeJohnette solo at the beginning of a quartet concert from 1990 or so
That cracking, warm, but still articulate and sounding like a 14" drum and not 12" in diamater is awesome. I think Georgo uses a chome over brass snare drum. I like that shell composition too! Great sound.
Now after watching all the new gospel chop drum solos. And they are fantastic as well. But this solo was new and refreshing. Love the highs and lows. Quite med then blast me. Soft hard quiet loud. I thought it was great.
Imagine being this in touch with your self, time, flow and restraint; that you can take yourself on a journey of boundlessly intuitive, feel-good creativity.
It blows me away; the strength of presence focus and discipline during such a long solo.
Wild.
Borlai is absolute TOP tier.
Absolute monster!
Adam Tuminaro the best of Orlando drummers!! I speak from Brazil !! You're amazing!! I'm subscried in his channel
Agreed p, One of the best in the world. Like one of the 25 best imho. Very unique as well.
The thing I got most out of this solo is how purposeful the playing is.. everything has musical meaning and although he's a chop monster it's never chops for the sake of showing his chops.. dudes truly telling a cohesive story on the drums. Well said!
Just saw a gig of his today and it was all chops. Maybe he had a bad day but man it was musically weak.
Yea I watched it a few times. And I got something different out of it evrything. And I had mixed reviews. Play to Express, not Impress
Nearly 8 years later and this still blows me away. This video changed how I approached playing drum solos forever, Gergo Borlai is a genius.
Those floor toms are thunder!
Gergo is one of the best drummers alive at this point. I've been listening to him a lot over the last couple of years. He can do anything and everything. Speed, groove, feel, technicality, etc - he has it all.

Gave him another listen, He's awesome. Thank you for the great lesson, Gergo!
Tom Yona I feel this way about Tony Royster Jr, sadly :(
Certainly one of the most entertaining and intelligent solos to be heard anywhere! Everything is for a reason, nothing in the way, just a really well structured and thoughtful solo. Chops, speed, subtlety, power, musicality and most of all - TASTE. Gergo is the man.
His humble smile at the end was priceless!!!
I don't think anyone can touch Gergo. His creativity, dynamics, technique, fundamentals, speed, groove, chops, passion, everything. He is on a whole other level and there are some absolutely incredible drummers out there that have raised the bar. But, Gergo has raised the bar even higher.
Chris Coleman! 'Nough said!
Gergo jumped the bar.
Coleman is a beast alien but gergo has got mastered double bass, and Coleman don't

@@libidooverdrive have to agree

This is the best drum solo I have ever heard. For me, it’s unmatched in musicality and technique.
Amazing solo, basically the best sounding drum set I've ever heard.
Gretsch Brooklyn Drums, Paiste cymbals, Dunnett snare drums.
Gergo is a monster and those Gretsch drums sound so rich and warm. Things of beauty.
Man, his kit sounds great here...
+Austin Burcham I'm waiting on that David Garibaldi video! ;)
+Funky Drummer Haha in due time my friend! Right now I'm working on a Steve Gadd episode...
***** Oh nice! Looking forward to it.
+Austin Burcham Was wondering if you'd show up! Love your vid on his flamdiddles.
+Buh Zampi thanks man!
Man that was so Chambers-Harrisonsque among others but at the same time one of the most original solos that I have seen in a while. Fantastic job.
I could watch him play for hours, this guy is amazing
I would love to meet this guy. Everything he does is so calculated, and precise! Just when you think everything's been done... You see a vid like this that makes you want to hug your drumkit lol
Loved EVERY. SINGLE. NOTE. Authentic and effortless musicality. A complete musical piece. What a drummer!
Gergo Borlai is the man! What a solo!
Gorgeous sounding kit. Epic solo. In awe.
omg omg omg....skill set one side undoubtedly over the top, but the work to come up with different patterns and execute is fabulous, sounds amazing. This is way above...way above...
Gergo's single strokes are out of this world.
Every Gergo's performance gives me heavy goosebumps. And those fucking sudden rhythm changes give me even more goosebumps. Magisterial.

What a journey that was. Dynamics are off the scales thats just so good it makes you want to cry.
This guy is a brilliant drummer. I've never seen a style quite like it. It's certainly unique and i could watch him play for hours.
I don’t say that easily, but I have never heard better sounding toms than these. A perfect combination of attack and thunderous low end, it’s amazing. Credits to the sound engineer as well.
One of, if not the, most captivating solo's I've heard. I thought at the start it was all a bit odd, but made a whole lotta sense by the end.
The Bob Ross of drumming. I could find peace in Bob's beautiful painting and his soothing fro like I find comfort in this guy's masterful drumming and glistening dome. Sheer magic.
Quite possibly the best drum solo of all time
Truly gifted.
So much control!! These drums sound amazing!
Very unique/creative solo, well done.
Édes,ékes anyanyelvemen szólva:
Gyönyörű játék volt köszönöm!!!
The first ever comment I've encountered on Tube in Hungarian! Jo napot! (one of the only phrases I can remember from my Hungarian course, heh..,.)
Insane floor toms!

Simon Phillips is another drummer god where i only wish for a washing just for once please. He never did or does it. Even when playing Metal.
Love this bloke. Such a talent and looks like a humble fella.
What an absolute monster, this dude blows my mind
All I can say is you guys at drumeo that get to watch these guys have the best jobs! I'm sure it's a lot of work but how cool would it be to sit and watch these amazing artists??

Jasper Barendregt exactly u nailed it. Could name another 2 drummers but cant guess the order now lol and don’t want to mess ur order ...
And a lot of Tony Williams!
I feel Gergo is one of the furst that reminds me of Tony Sillizms : not copying, but pushing forward in the spirit of...
He played it with immense poise!
Amazing!!!
I love this piece! Not at all what I was expecting from you... it reminded me a lot of a Jack DeJohnette solo at the beginning of a quartet concert from 1990 or so
those toms
Beautiful playing!!!
So creative, one of his best.
Most underwatched Drumeo video of all times!
Killin' drum tone!
Thanks man for being so wonderful at the drums!!!
Beautiful phrasing
Incredible tuning + proper recording = 🤤
Sin duda, Gergo es uno de los grandes bateristas de hoy.
That cracking, warm, but still articulate and sounding like a 14" drum and not 12" in diamater is awesome. I think Georgo uses a chome over brass snare drum. I like that shell composition too! Great sound.
