About radar. MY work in the late 80¨s and early 90¨s was designing radar systems. It takes a lot of power to transmit a signal a long way, at the right frequency, and to receive a return signal strong enough to detect a target. The smaller and faster the target the harder it is to get a good return signal. Take into account water droplets in the atmosphere, and false returns from random interference, the way you describe the obstacles to it working really well, was very good. I can only guess it is frequency hopping, which throws another problem up. And signal processing has to be very fast to keep up with the pulse rate. The investment in such systems is enormous. I can imagine a lot of the cost is getting a good return on that. Then you throw in advances in technology. So you build the first few hundred, but engineers seek to apply new tech, to improve what they have. Which is another huge cost. That process never stops. Engineers never stop development.

I find the radioactive drinking water situation very interesting, as I lived in Lowell, Massachusetts in the 1980s. For about 150 years Lowell had been the seat of the Industrial Revolution in the US, with countless factories and industries inhabiting the area. I remember distinctly that at least once a month some public space - school, playground, hospital, etc. - would be evacuated as they found dangerous chemicals that had been buried decades before, at a time when there would have been no regulations preventing them from doing so. Similarly, the ground water supply was always in question.

Before the invasion of Ukraine, the US was capable of producing about 300 of the Patriot Pac-3 missiles per year. Production has now been ramped up to 500 per year with a target of 550. This helps explain the shortage. This also makes it clear why Patriots have to been reserved for high value targets such as ballistic missiles that other systems can't intercept. Far better to let a cheap drone with a relatively small warhead go by than to exhaust your Patriots and then be defenseless against ballistic missiles carrying big warheads.
One small but important correction - The US cancelled Turkey’s F-35 order *after* Turkey bought the S-400s. The worry is that by having both F-35s and S-400s in close proximity, Turkey, (or Russian spies in Turkey) would be able to research the effect of S-400 against F-35s and be able to upgrade the S-400s to defeat the F-35 stealth capabilities. As to why Turkey bought S-400, I’m not entirely sure. Before the Ukraine invasion, Turkey was much more friendly to Russia. And even though Turkey is in NATO, they operate in their region with other countries that have a lot of legacy Soviet and Russian equipment, so perhaps they were just trying to stick to the status quo. 🤷♂️
@arturrehi You are wrong about the Patriot system : Raytheon and Lockheed Martin simply overcharge the client! Countries pay this, so why selling cheaper? The radar covers only 120°. PAC-3 ranges 20km and costs $2m PAC-3MSE : 35km, $3m PAC-2 : 160km, $5-8m depending on version. You launch 2 missiles at once as it's not uncommon it misses the target... The full battery costs $1.1bn with 6 launchers, 4 PAC-2 or 16 PAC-3 per launcher... It's long to deploy, so it's more a static system, and the network is proprietary, then you centralise all batteries in order to connect to NATO's Link-16. Patrot is not great against low flying targets too... To compare... SAMP/T's Aster-30 only ranges 120km... But... $210m per battery of 6 launchers, 8 Aster-30 per launcher. Aster-30 costs €1m. 98.5% of kills with a single missile. 360° rada. Efficient against Mach3 cruise missiles like Oniks, against SRBMs like the Kalibr, Scud, Toshka; hypersonics like the Kinzhal, aircraft, small drones. Ukraine has two or 3 SAMP/T and strangely, doesn't advertises. SAMP/T deploys in 5 min, packs into 3 min... It's uncommon since USA armbinds allies into buying its weapons so there are only 4 users : Ukraine, Singapore, Italy, France... BUT the Aster-30 is VERY common on navy vessels : a good dozen of nations have it because it can engage any type of target and you don't need to carry as much onboard as if you were using US missiles... SAMP/T has direct Lin-16 networking so you can exchange DATA with AWACS, ground radars, jet fighters, etc... If you want a more serious radar, go for the Groundmaster GM-400 : 500km+, AESA, lower band S (anti-stealth), €22m, or the Ground Smarter GS-1000 : same thing but 1000km range and €96m... And SAMP/T-NG is coming : Aster-NT block.1 wil outgun the PAC-2 in terms of range, rumours speak about 200-250km. It will be able to engage MRBMs of 1500km range at mid course. Planned for 2025... But, in 2027-2028, a block.2 that will be a totally different 3 stages missiles instead of 2 stages... Is in final development... It will outgun the 800m THAAD system from a SAMP/T-NG... It's definitively an anti-ballistic thing ranging 500km and to altitues up to 250-300km (THAAD : 200km, 150km ceiling) able to engage 3000km range IRBMs at mid-course, MIRVs outside the atmosphere, sub-orbital manoeuvring hypersonic gliders... BTW, Thales was previously named CSF then Thmson-CSF... They were the first company to ever sell a radar as soon as 1934, it was used on cargoes or ocean-liners that were taking the North Route, just like the Titanic... CSF also created the 1st useable magnetron ever... So, w.o it, no radar, no microwave oven... The UK were the firsts to militarize radas with the Chain Home... FYI, Raytheon's radar come from a joint venture with Thales... Without this, forget about selling to the US military... In terms of US air defense system, AEGIS-Ashore is better than THAAD and Patriot... $700m and you can stuff the same weapons as... 3 Arleigh Burke-class navy vessels... Its $18m RIM-161D block IIA is said ranging either 1200 or 2400km with altitude about 900-1050km...
Norway had 57 F-16, and made a deal with Rumenia in 2021 to sell them 32 F-16. Now the rest will go to Ukraine. All the norwegian F-16 is very well maintained and updated, and they probably have atleast15-20 years left of their service time. Pilots say that flying the norwegian F-16 is as flying a new plane. Looks like Ukraine will get a good amount of F-16 very soon.
There are a reported upwards of 60 destroyed, damaged, or abandoned Bradleys in Ukraine. Given most Bradley crews survive, there are many fully trained crews to man these new Bradleys.

Speaking of weapon exports, this war has also shown how poorly some of the Russian systems function, and with supply difficulty, causing their weapon exports to drop further
These I find ironic: At the onset of the Special militarily operation, Russia stated that it had no choice because they had to stop NATO expansion. They have only caused it to accelerate and become stronger. In the beginning, Russia said that they were fighting the entirety of western civilization. In the beginning, nothing could be further from the truth. Our response was tepid, at best. As time passed, western civilization has come to realize that it is in our best interests to fully support Ukraine 🇺🇦.
Russia doesn't care as long as they keep NATO and their overt/covert agenda out of Ukraine, as strategically that poses a huge national security risk to the people and resources of the Russian Federation going forward. Sweden, Finland, the baltics etc are isolated from the European continent and pose less of a risk.
Yeah to be honest NATO didn't really care about Russia anymore. The sad part is that Russia could have been a world power if it had worked more with its neighbors for the mutual benefit of everyone instead of trying to dominate. China is making the same mistake.
"Tepid" is a pretty generous description for the aid now. They've treated it like old gravy at the back of the stove. Imagine if they were actually trying.
Many Americans don't like to admit our industrial military complex is what keeps us relevant on a global scale. It's also one of our biggest exports. Good or bad, this is a direct result of the post ww2/cold war era. An era Putler wants to bring back to Russia. We really can't let that happen. You think we spend too much on defense now..?

what gets released in theater is obsolete hand me downs, and then "export" versions of newer hardware....ie US will ot release F16E, the ukranians are getting F16B+C.The radar suite is 20 years old(basically what was used in iraq 2003)
if they perform well on the battlefield, then yes, the opposition does get a hiding in terms of their own arms export capability.

@@nonjaninja4904Is it wrong to support the Republican narrative to end the conflict? Instead of bringing more weapons, it just drags the war on meaning more innocent people lose their lives. This war is only designed to dwindle Russias arsenal and Ukrainians are paying the price for it.

Raytheon overprices everything. I used to be a radar mechanic. That's why HAWK and Patriot cost so much. Raytheon is greedy.
We have 40K of the HAWK missiles in storage that were paid for decades ago. Most are in good shape and can be shipped to Ukraine now. The rest can be refurbished for low cost.
How do people not see that all of these fucking wars are just a rape of taxpayers? My God we STARTED this thing with the CIA bases in Ukraine, false promises, breaking treaties. The US still has like a thousand leftover Bradleys just sitting in depots. Should send over a couple hundred at least.
I do understand the US wants to keep up a large fleet of reserve equipment but sending them to fight ruzzia is a great investment, and reduces the cost of storing them
Yes, and thousands of spare Abrams as well.
Why is no one reporting on the fact we have hundreds of Humve's and Ukraine army and medical units are begging for vehicles to transport wounded ? 🇺🇸🇺🇦

It's really handy when I'm getting glass of water in the middle of the night that it glows in the dark.
That's double nonsense. Most radioactive nucleotides do not phosphorescent and secondly nobody will drink tap water. Drinking water you have to buy on grocery stores or get it from special communal places. Same is in Ukraine, tap water you can use for a shower but not to drink.
Put it in the goldfish bowl...glow in the dark fish are environmentally friendly

Canals and factories!

I am staggered to hear there are environmentalists in Russia.
No one is an environmentalist until their family or neighbors are directly effected by pollution, then it’s devastating
Russian Environmentalists probably don’t have a long life expectancy - If Putin doesn’t get you then the Oligarchs surely will …
The united states literally has a thousand bradley's just sitting around collecting dust ( Not literally, they are well maintained).
The amount of stuff we have literally just sitting around because it's outdated is crazy. We have more than a few museums that would be issued into service in Russia immediately and be better than all there equipment😂

Thanks Artur, you help me get through the week....
Thank you Artur. Slava Ukraini
The best for defending a specific place against drones is the Gepard, they shout get all they can. Against the misiles are the patriot.
The Danes simply asked 'Ukraine...to be or not to be'.🤔
Good one.
Thanks, Artur.
Happy birthday!
@arturrehi You are wrong about the Patriot system : Raytheon and Lockheed Martin simply overcharge the client! Countries pay this, so why selling cheaper?
The radar covers only 120°.
PAC-3 ranges 20km and costs $2m
PAC-3MSE : 35km, $3m
PAC-2 : 160km, $5-8m depending on version.
Wow .
There are many countries using Patriot, about 15 I think, not four, did I miss something?
It's called raping the taxpayer. You know that this war is just a grift, right?

Norway had 57 F-16, and made a deal with Rumenia in 2021 to sell them 32 F-16. Now the rest will go to Ukraine. All the norwegian F-16 is very well maintained and updated, and they probably have atleast15-20 years left of their service time. Pilots say that flying the norwegian F-16 is as flying a new plane. Looks like Ukraine will get a good amount of F-16 very soon.

Sparkling water? Fizzy drinks? And all for free? What a wonderful place Russia is........
Ooops. Wrong post I replied to. Sorry.
Russia wins this year’s Darwin awards!
I think, they subscribed it for the next hundred years..
These I find ironic:
At the onset of the Special militarily operation, Russia stated that it had no choice because they had to stop NATO expansion.
There was no chance of Ukraine in NATO before 2014. NATO was pretty much dead before Russia invaded Georrgia
@floydlooney6837 Not dead but definitely weakened by the "peace dividend." Russia's actions have been a wake-up call.
The US is already going through everything and getting things ready to send
We keep hearing about F16s. When will they finally arrive? It seems there have been many delays. Ukraine needs them yesterday!!

Notice the Russians in the ammo factory are all wearing heavy coats inside the factory. Meaning the workers don't have heat even in the factory.
