      @@zxtenn What I do not understand is when this car was built, it could compete against the worlds best cars in quality and was better. Why does GM, in the last 45-50 years, build such crap. Look at a 2021 Caddy, no one in the right mind would choose a Caddy over a Lexus.

    Beautiful cadillac. I have my parents 58 series 62 sedan, they bought in 1960 from a Doctor friend. Lifelong Southern California car, in very good condition, still on the road. Has factory AC! Seek and scan radio, power antenna, power windows. Cadillac didn't say instrument cluster. They called it a NACELLE....fancy..lol.

    My grandfather always drove Cadillacs. He had a '58 Fleetwood also. My grandmother picked it out because the paint color was called Persian Sand. Kinda pinkish looking. The upholstery was light burgundy with little silver speckles in it. I loved to play with all the buttons to work the windows. They had it until 1968 when Grandma got into a bad accident with it. It was a total loss, but she believed it saved her life cause it was so big!
    From the insurance settlement they got 1969 Fleetwood and boy! That one was HUGE! Another cool feature was the exhaust system ran out thru the lower rear bumper vents. I was wondering if the exhaust on this one must have been reworked to run below the exhaust vents?

    I'll never understand how people are able to keep a car so nice, every new car I've owned, withing six months, it's got a dent or scratch, something always happens.
    My last new car, a guy was visiting my neighbor that I share a driveway with, and he backed into me, my car was a month old.
    Another one was about six months, and a lady was driving across parking spaces in a mall parking lot and she hit me.
    I had a new pick-up, and kid was helping me load something and he rammed a 4x4 into the tailgate and dented it, it was months old, I can't win.
    Nice Caddy.

      By not driving it. I'd imagine when this car was bought new, it was someone's special occasion car. It probably didn't leave the garage unless the owner was going out to dinner, to a movie, to a black tie event, etc. This paired with the fact that people just didn't drive as much back then as we do now and there weren't as many cars on the road in general, and that people were much more protective of and took much more ownership pride in their cars because they recognized that car ownership is a privilege whereas nowadays people think it's a right. Lots of people in 1958 probably remember a time when cars were unobtainable.

      David, I'm so sorry you don't still have the cadillac. I was lucky, I have my parents 58 Cadillac they bought in 1960. I was 1 year old. I grew up in this car. 4 door sedan, factory air, power windows. Charcoal metallic paint, silver interior, My parents unfortunately divorced in 1964, and mom was given the house and the cadillac. My mom almost traded it in , in 1967, I put up a fight, and begged her not to, and said I loved the car would want it when I grew up!! She kept it, but still got a new car. When I turned 21, she signed it over to me. She passed away at 89, dad passed at 97. But I have the old family cadillac, its on the road, lifelong Southern California car, and its a touchstone to them. And of course its alot of fun having people wave at me, come up to talk about it, and take to local car shows. I wish you did still have the one you CONNECTED too also.

    Strange... the vent windows didn't work the first time, and you didn't have to start ANY car from the 50s to operate power windows. They said the A/C works, but I didn't see any vents, and the controls were labeled for just heat, vent and defrost. And since when did chipped paint on a dashboard become "patina?"

    • @johnfranklin5277
      @johnfranklin5277 3 года назад +1

      This car definitely has factory air. You don't see the vents because your not looking for them in the right place on this 62 year old car. They are up on the dash, below the base of the windshield. My 58 cadillac also has factory air, a very EXPENSIVE, OPTION back then. Even POWER WINDOWS, were an option. Mine has those also. Yes, many Cadillac's were sold NEW back then with crank windows, and no AC.

    • @JClark-34695
      @JClark-34695 3 года назад +1

      @@johnfranklin5277 I now see the vents; thank you for the correction. But the power vent windows on my father's '61 Cadillac worked without the ignition on, and (for what it's worth) power vent windows were standard on all '58 Eldorados and Sixty Specials, according to the '58 Brochure.

In 1965 Froggy's used cars on Roosevelt Rd in Forest Park, IL had one in blue for sale he said take it for a day and drive it around to see how you like it. I decided It was too much car and gas for my daily driver, think he wanted $1900. back then. It was in X-lent cond. I ended up with beautiful 1960 Chev Impala HT for $1280. from Zeplack Chevy in Elmhurst....

      In real life in 1958, It would have been a smooth "whoosh"....and nothing more. As is, the "exhaust note" is not what one SHOULD get from a classic Cadillac( A Chevy or Poncho, Maybe...) .Cadillacs (and even Buicks) then made their presence known by their presence with quiet firm authority, not noise.

    The fore/aft headliner ribbing is copied from the post-war Custom Super Clipper Packards, and to be proper, the exhaust exits from the bumper.

Whoever is recording needs to leave the camera in one spot long enough to see what you were trying to show and talk about. It’s almost like the camera is on a merry-go-round and it just keeps going around in circles.

    You ALWAYS hear GLUG,GLUG,GLUG from old cars...Here's a secret. When this car was new, It would have been QUIET. I guess there's a thing where EVERY old American car HAS to sound like a "muscle car". But this is not ONLY a Cadillac, But a FLEETWOOD. When new it would have been quiet outside, and TOMB silent inside.

    • @johnfranklin5277
      @johnfranklin5277 3 года назад +1

      As the owner of a 1958 cadillac, since 1960, I can tell you the glug glue glug sound as you call it was a common exhaust sound, a typical 50s v8 sound. And Cadilacs had it too. Yes, the interior is pretty quiet, not silent though. My 58 cadillac sounds very much like this one. What is very quiet is the engine. Sewing machine quiet.
