Cancer Intermission: A Word From the Slimy Pit

  • As many of you know, Alex has been fighting cancer of the larynx since it was diagnosed in him at the beginning of April. Fortunately it was caught early, so the prognosis is positive. We are deeply grateful to God for the miraculous way that came about (which we have talked about on past videos).
Unfortunately, though, the journey to remission has entailed going through some grueling treatments (surgery and 6 weeks of daily radiation treatment aimed at his throat).
This has left him in a lot of pain, unable to eat or drink anything warm/hot or with any texture, radiation burns on his neck, and a great deal of tiredness. He was not expecting this, as he thought his fitness and good health would help him to easily go through treatment!! 🥺
Added to that, although he’s barely able to work, our state disability insurance will only pay out $120/week for 16 weeks as we’re self-employed, so that leaves a bit of hole when it comes to paying the mortage!
So, this feels like a slimy pit we can’t hope to climb out of… and thus a time and place where we are thrown deeply onto God.
In this video, Alex and Hannah reflect on what it’s like to find yourself stuck in the pit with no way out, the battles they’re fighting, and the spiritual lessons they’re learning.
In spite of the set-up, *this is not a gloomy video!!*
We hope that this will be a time of encouragement for you - and for people you know who are going through their own pit experience.

Thank you Alex and Hannah for being so real. Your way of handling the slimy pit builds my courage and faith. I will pray for all the things you've asked in the email. Praising God for the last day of radiation today! You are named, remembered and loved!

Thank you for sharing. You both remind me of this song "Ive still got joy in chaos, Ive got peace that makes no sense..."
Grateful to God for the little ways he's reached you. We trust him for an overture. Love you both.

Thank you both for being open to the Spirit's leadership in the encouragement of others! You are certainly correct that we will all have our own slimy pits at some point. Your update will be comforting in those times. (And I love that you are still using your humor... lightsabers and Chernobyl... lol!)

Thank you for the update you guys - praying for you daily! I can't help but acknowledge the, perhaps, unprayed-for blessing of England advancing to the Euro finals to enhance your guilt-free watching! :) Love ya!

Wow, thank you SO very much - you are such an encouragement to us. Really appreciate your prayers.
The Euros were a lot of fun (well, until that last 6 minutes of the final!)
