      The male and female vocal run through the Ultimo Compressor and I display those settings on the screen in those sections. It might be hard to see on a phone, but on a tablet or computer it should be plenty big enough to see the settings.

    When you are doing this is channel 11 for the stream selected and then send to faders and then you do each individual channels eq and fx?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 года назад +1

      In my setup I actually have all of my main channels set (EQ and Comp) according to the needs of my stream. I do have BUS 11 selected and then Sends on Fader to adjust the fader mix for the stream. I then run my inputs through various other BUS groups (Band, Drums, VOX) to allow BUS EQ and Comp according to my house needs. @@AllamHouse that’s the video I watch over and over and over lol 😂 I don’t wanna add to much eq or reverb to front of house. We don’t mind a regular sound. I just want to do more eqs compression and stuff like that for the mix. I was watching your band eq and voice eq so when I saw you doing all the configurations I just needed to know if you were doing that on the specific stream mix bus channel

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 года назад

      Yeah, I was originally concerned about reverbs and delays so I had a pair of FX for the house ( FX 1 & 1) and then I used FX 3 & 4 for my stream. It gave me the ability to have separate levels and Fx for both mixes. I have changed this in my current setup so that I now just have all 4 FX available in both locations. I spent a good bit of time in headphones with multi tracks to dial in the mix in both locations and it seems to land in a good spot now.

    • @AllamHouse

      No, I always leave the FX BUS sends as Post Fader. I do this so if I turn an instrument (or vocal) down there is less effect heard as well.

    Great video. This same reverbs will work for musicians IEM? How do you approach the in ear mix if you have to work with all 4 effects?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 года назад

      Yes, our IEMs run off MixBUSes and this gives us the ability to push these reverb returns into the musicians ears. Typically, we see the ‘All Verb’ being pushed into monitors and usually some drum verb as well.

    Great video and teaching. My sound guy and I disagree about gain riding. My position is let the players play and the singers sing with minimal corrections unless really out of balance, but he likes to ride gains and change the mix. How do you instruct your crew?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 года назад

      I teach them to set gain properly first... with your eyes. Then use the faders to set the mix with your ears. This video discusses gain. ruclips.net/video/-RjP3IKFfqM/видео.html

      @@AllamHouse As a player and vocalist, I try to engage on some passages and disengage of some passages for dynamics. When the sound person boosts when I'm low, I have to compensate, or cuts when I emphasize for dynamics, I can't get back to normal. I'm trying to get him to take a more "hands off" approach to mixing, and not be riding the faders so much. Is this wrong thinking on my part?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 года назад +1

      As a musician myself, I completely understand. The question I would have is around your monitor setup. If you are on in-ear monitors (IEM) then it will always sound the same regardless of changes made to the house mix. If you have wedges for monitors it will be slightly different since your overall sound scape does include the house sound even if you are hearing it bounce off walls and ceilings. In the end, you (the musician) should be able to have a steady monitor to support tour needs and the house engineer should be able to do whatever they need to properly support the room. I hope that helps.

      @@AllamHouse thanks for your reply. I’m listening to our Facebook feed and trying to achieve a good mix without involving the house engineer. He is not monitoring the Facebook feed, doesn’t use headphones, but does a good job on the house mix. My feed is post fader but includes prefader ambience mics and drum mics. I guess I’m trying to justify asking him to not over mix. His fader moves make it difficult for me.

    Hi Allam house, thanks again for another great video, very helpful. Is your Pastor's hands free mic omnidirectional ? i have an omnidirectional one but still have trouble dealing with the feedback especially from his monitors. When i reduce the gain to take care of this it helps but then the sound gets very low although with a decent volume level. Do you think attenuating more frequencies and raising the channel's volume might help with this ? Also please i have another issue: something weird has been happening in recent weeks when i power on my x32. After about 3 minutes or once signal from a mic or instrument begins to go into the system i will get a very loud pop/crackling/ sound lasting about 1 second. sometimes it sounds like something exploded or is blew up, but nothing is affected. I am not sure why this happens but i hate it because it scares people a lot. I have noticed that the sound only comes once a few minutes after i power on and have some sort of signal going through the system, and then everything is fine for the rest of the service. My main fader is always all the way down when i power on. Pls do you have any idea what all these could be and how to solve it? Thanks again

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 года назад

      (1) My pastors mic is omnidirectional. It is a standard over-ear Countryman mic. My question for you is... why does your pastor need a monitor?
      Always start with setting the gain properly. Then send to your house and stream, THEN send to any other monitors that you have on stage. If you start cutting a bunch of frequencies the mic will just not sound natural. If you have an extra channel you can always duplicate the input on another channel that only feeds the stream so you can destroy the EQ for the house and then have a basic EQ on the second channel that is ONLY used for your stream.
      (2) Your loud banging sound is going to be hard to diagnose through a message, but I would start with trying to identify if the issue is coming from a specific input... maybe one with phantom power (48v) turned on. If you turn on your system, but not your amps then you can watch your board (or record it with your phone) and review to see if any specific input spikes. Also, you might look into turning off one amp to see if some capacitors in a specific amp are going bad. I would spend extra time (outside of a service day) to figure this out and do the hard work of troubleshooting at the board first, then add the stage inputs, then add the amps.

      @@AllamHouse Thanks for these tips, I will try that. Sorry, so Speaking about "Pastor's" Monitor, I am referring to the front of stage monitors. There are 2 about 6 feet from his position. Sometimes he wants to hear himself crystal.
      Also referring to turning on or off amps , are you referring to the preamps? Cuz I have no external amplifiers. If it's preamp, how do I turn on or off individual preamps pls?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 года назад

      Yeah, usually if the PA is set there will be sound in the room and then the monitors are supposed to supplement the room sound. Some companies make hotspots which are small powered speakers that you can use as additional monitors, but you have to be cautious because it will quickly lead to feedback on the pastors mic. Then you go down the rabbit hole of ringing out the monitor and the mic which (if overdone) makes the mic sound bad in your stream.
      SOLUTION: If you have an extra channel available I would use it to duplicate your input so your pastors mic is coming into the console on two inputs channels (this is done digitally in the config tab of the second channel). Then you can send the second channel with gentle EQ to your stream while having the first with a drastic EQ that is only needed for the room/monitor situation. I would use a DCA to control both in terms of muting and volume. I have a video about acoustic guitar where I duplicate inputs. It is not the exact same setup, but it might get you where you need to go. ruclips.net/video/3xnQFr0XD0I/видео.html
      AMPS: Somewhere along the lines you have an amplifier that is feeding your speakers. If you do not have a separate amplifier than you have powered speakers and there is a volume knob on the back of them. You would want to attend to these volume knobs to be able to adjust after setting your board to an appropriate gain structure and volume output level on your main fader.
      Good luck with everything.

    Dual exciter /stereo exciter, stereo imager can i use this effect to with presenter talk in lavalier microphone to get clean sound or there are other effects more than you took about it in the video that you recommend?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 года назад +1

      An exciter is going to add frequencies that are not there... to be specific it is boosting (like an EQ) overtones that are in the sound, but are not the main frequency. I would avoid using this on a lav mic as you will be picking up more room noise with this mic and then running it through the exciter will just make the sound muddy. I would focus first on getting the proper gain structure, EQ and some compression to even the sound out and see what it sounds like at that point. For speaking mics (in my live stream) I add a little bit of my room reverb (on the console), but it is just a little. Too much reverb and they will sound too far away and too muddy. When I am troubleshooting I turn off everything and start with a dry signal, work with the basics first and get it as good as possible and then look to FX as a last touch.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 года назад +1

      Clean sound starts at the source. The actual microphone makes a big difference. Where the microphone is placed makes a big impact as well. If you use a cheap mic it is t going to sound good and even the best mic in the wrong place will give you a bad sound. There is no magic button (or effect as you are asking about) that can cure these challenges. Once you have an acceptable mic placed properly, you have to set the gain right. Finally, use EQ to remove any unwanted frequencies and use compression to create a more even experience.
