Can't believe this game is 30 years old now. Bought it on my DS as a celebration for both Mike and the Grumps. It was around 2 years ago that these videos helped me get through some really rough and lonely times. I love you guys.
The word "Mycaruba" in the Apple dictionary actually redirects to the Game Grumps wikipedia page.
I did a little research and found that Aruba is a country north of Venezuela. What's even better is the prime minister's name is Mike Emans. I couldn't make this shit up if I tried.

Interesting fact, that first room, after you swing the cage, if you stand there for like 10 or 15 minutes you will see the only vertical laser in the game that can kill you. Some droid bot thing will just fly by, pause above you, then shoot down.
This isn't relevant to anything, but at the 5:48 mark of this video, my cat leaned over and paused it.

Ironically, Hydrox are the original Oreos. Oreos are a knock-off of Hydrox that became more popular because that is a weird name. Hydrox predate Oreos.

Hydrox actually predate Oreos by 4 years, but it doesn't matter because most people agree that Oreos are the superior tasting cookie.
I find it funny that everyone hates Dan for not knowing his hundred year old cookie history like that's such a staple in intelligence.

This game is surprizingly fluid for the SNES, it even has cutscenes!
It's even better on the Genesis.

FYI, this is the episode that made me appreciate Danny for what he truly brings to this show.
God damn, this game looks amazing. The animation is so detailed yet minimalistic, I kind of wish there was a modern game done in this manner.
I learned about this game from my uncle. I was only about 7 or 8 but I was SO entranced by the graphics and the imagery-based storytelling; there was NO other game like it at the time. It felt like you were playing a movie. To this day it's easily in my top three favorite NES games. Impossibly difficult, lol, but amazing nonetheless.
Just bought this on xbox one. After playing it for two frustrating hours, I've come to realize that Dan makes it look wayyyy easier than it actually is.

Hydrox is actually the "Original" Oreo, so to speak. Hydrox came to the market in 1908, where as oreos, which were inspired by the hydrox cookies, came out later in 1912.
You guys should play the sequel. You get to play as mike!!!

my wife just introduced me to game grumps & I was so psyched to see this game.
I have one critique. before entering the drain pipe area you comment that Mike gets "captured," but if you wait there you'll notice that the other set of feet suddenly disappears, which I always imagined as Mike pinning him up against the wall. then the next you see of Mike is him running from gunshots, implying that he wasn't captured.
I love when a game shows you the end area as a teaser. You get so pumped to get there. Like having the end boss door at the start but you have to go through the game to unlock it.
Prob one of your best runs ahah always come back to it when I feel down^^

This is one of those I vaguely remember my dad playing when I was a toddler.
The way Arin says "HEY MAN" when you see Mike Aruba for the first time makes me laugh every time, I don't know why but it just cracks me up!

They should play the Genesis version. The graphics and sound are surprisingly better. There's also a really cool cutscene in the beginning that wasn't in the SNES port.

The mycaruba meme lived but for me the best part is Arin trying to voice act that potato-headed friend and stopping after two lines because it makes him giggle too much
7:30 The three walls are there to force players to run out of ammunition, thereby teaching them how the recharge 'stations' work. It's odd that Arin didn't think about this considering he notices all of the game design trends in Metal Storm.

The remastered version of this looks sweet. I hadn't watched this series since last year when it was first posted, so I forgot how to solve most of the puzzles. The only time I had to come watch this playthrough was with the alien who rolls the grenades down the stairs.
Wait, I actually love this. This game was made before there were so many hard engrained structures and rules about making games, because games hadn't existed for very long yet! These animations are just gorgeous, and so different from anything I've seen

It feels like i watched this whole series yesterday...it's been almost a year.
I just love the way "New York mobster" Danny pronounces "S".
Decided to come back and watch to enjoy the company of my buddy Mike.
when i was 5 i got a SNES for my birthday. With it i got Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid, and this game. to this day ill always remember the other prisoner say, "My Tuba"
This was one of my favorite games growing up, so great. Don't get me wrong, great to see you guys play it, thumbs up, but I have to say, I feel like a little bit of the magic is lost watching Dan just absolutely ace it. Part of the game was the absolute danger all around you and how easy it was to mess up.
On the credits for Borderlands the presequel, someone from the team said, "mycaruba"
I think this game made me realize that I'm claustrophobic with that sewer pipe section.
Yeah this game does remind me of several other tames...particularly Flashback. The gun, the art style, the force field - everything. Bizarre.
That got very Jon & Arin when they started talking about cookies. That was a good bit of nostalgia.
