Thomas Mars may not be one of the most skilled singer these days, but he has such a unique tone
Kind of amazing that these guys (at least Thomas, Deck, and Chris) have been a band since they were 10. I love their music, and sometimes I move away from it and obsess about other bands, but I always come back to them, and I'm always glad when I do. They seem to always come around in my life when I need them but maybe don't realize it yet.
This is a great set, but I love watching them play in a setting where they don't need to tone it down at all. It makes me so happy to see Thomas H. and Robin totally rockin' out in the back line, and the way Chris dances around when he's really getting into what he's playing.

The singer, the music and the brilliant drummer tie this band together. Beautifully. A jazz approach to pop/rock music. It takes a Frenchman to reinterpret so well... Or at least, a few Frenchmen and maybe a Swede by way of Sri Lanka. Impressive.
Thomas Hedlund is one of the most underrated drummers of the 21st century.

Hahahaha! I believe they were going to just play 'Trying to be cool' but instead cut into 'Drakkar Noir' as they usually do live, thus the confusion. Pffttt so cute. By the way, to the people who has problems with the way Thomas sings, this is just how the album was recorded, its not like he was belting it on CD and suddenly fails live, this is his voice. So ermm just find other bands you like if you dont find his voice to your standards for he does not live by yours.

Haha, you're upvoted even though you're actually wrong :-) Bankrupt! charted at number 3 in France, and number 4 in the U.S. They're likely somewhat known in both places, but not universal.

did anybody else notice that they missed something inbetween when they switch to drakkar noir. solid musician though they ca just play through it and seriously except for the visuals i probably wouldnt have noticed

there music is kind of cheesy but I like it they are good at manipulating the ears with electronica sounds I don't know why people are saying shit about his voice he's not a bad singer it just seems like the stuff from new album his voice is amplified he's definitely using a tricked out mic but I think it matches the tone the songs - I always though his voice was good but also a little soft like on Lisztomania maybe they did it so you could hear him better when they play live

I think you have a point in that this is not Thomas Mars' best live performance and many factors may be at play aside from your stereotypical provocative RUclips comment that creates a witch-trial-like flurry of negative comments from fans. For instance, Phoenix had just headlined two weekends at Coachella, played a couple of shows after Cochella, and just the sheer fact that MBE is recorded pretty early in the day, may have contributed to Mars' poor singing.

The song is called "Trying to be Cool" Try being disposably clever & describe it as "They R Failing @ 'Trying to Be Cool'" We can't always listen 2 Radiohead ( 80s & 90s music listener, 1983,) or, N my case primarily as a hip hop listener (not rap, hip hop, don't tell on yourself by not knowing the difference,) Pharoahe Monch, Public Enemy, or Strange Fruit Project, sometimes U need 2 shut up & nod 2 the rhythm! Balance, as with all things N life, is good 4 music playlists!
