Aquascope on the Azores

Eawag researchers are travelling on the Azores, where they are taking pictures of plankton with the Aquascope underwater microscope camera.
They have been invited by the Sail & Explore Association, an organisation dedicated to micro and nanoplastics research. In collaboration with US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Sail & Explore Association aims to sample plankton on its plastic sampling cruises. The Eawag researchers are helping them to find simple and practical methods for doing so.
The team was also supported by colleagues from the Universidade dos Açores, who facilitated a research trip to Princess Alice Seamount, a hotspot for marinefauna.
