The issue is not raising the age per se. The issue is all the countries who did in Europe got their pensioners poorer. French pensioners are the 2nd richest pensioners after Luxemburg ones. The present French pensions system is in no way close to collapsing. It was beneficiary in 2020 and 2021. The present system works well and does not need to be changed. There will be a very small deficit in the next years, which could be funded very easily, like raising women's salaries to men salaries or getting the financial incomes to contribute a little. French are hard-working people, and you can see this in the OEDC reports when comparing countries' private workers yielding. Finally you have to know it's very hard for older workers to find a job. To have to work 2 more years will be in reality to be on social paiements for 2 years. This is less than 600 eur per MONTH for everything
Pension shouldn't be from debt of government. We may save one person today but we lose three later while paying back the debt with interest. Government should always spend what it collects from taxes.
The actual age french people can retire at the moment is 62 years. In Germany in comparison it is 67 years. Don't be mistaken when you talk about the French when you are actually talking about the Parisians. This is perhaps why it's so irresponsible of the Guardian to have a Comments section in the first place. (I expect that, ideologically, we're quite close, but I've lived and followed left-wing politics in France for over 30 years so would like a voice in all this. This being social media, it's those who issue the most provocative statements that will prevail (at the expense of this who perhaps know what's really going on). This is how Trump happened!
@@spythere democracy is a fantastic aspiration: I recommend that you do a MOOC on the subject, because it's also complicated. I teach classes on this subject and notions of what "democracy" is differs across the globe. Beware of simple solutions!
Parliament can vote to fire the entire government if they want to, but they most likely Will not. Many fint oppose the reform, they just do not want to pay a political price for it.
2 motions for vote of no confidence already lodged.
This time, only 9 voices were missing to reject the parliament... some politicians have said that they received high pressure from government, as suppressing local funds for their area...

Not even French politicians are a big fan of this bill. Hopefully, this won't devolve into chaos. That could've been a lot worse!
they were going to vote against it , that's why he used emergency powers to force it. That's the main reason for the revolt. The bill is not just about age, everythign about it is wrong. French retirement funds are at balance because we financed through our taxes a fund to anticipate demographic shift. This fund is full and exedentary , they want to use the money to fund green energy and have us work two more years. They want to steel the money.
Bottom-up revolution is what gets real change

French people keep fighting 💪 🇫🇷
A few years ago the Australian government put up retirement age from 65 to 67. I wish our members of parliament where as passionate as those in France 🇫🇷
Do you have special rules in Australia for people with difficult professions like garbage collectors ?
Shooting for the ripe young age of 90
But in the end, French will work longer. Remember the yellow jackets, they didn’t change anything and they even re-elected Macron
@@billal2731 Actually there is no retirement age in Australia (except for judges as per constitution). So citizens can claim for the aged pension when they are 67. The only jobs with retirement ages are judges at 70 years old, and fair work Australia presidential members where it is 65 years old.
Average life expectancy has increased faster
Come on France do what you're famous for and have a revolution
We try since many years but we hope other countries do the same
For sure, it will never happen in South Korea...
You know...last time the french were on the street it didn't end well, I suggest they start listening
I don’t think the France was ingouvernable but that gouvernement are deaf ! 🇫🇷
Pih, 200 years ago the PM would beeen cut down.
Gotta love French perseverance
The retirement age here in Australia went from 65 to 67 a few years ago.
In france it's 64 (can retire) but 67 can expect to have the full retirement (not much for many) pay.
Same in Italy.
And it will get worse, many countries are having a demographic crisis with way too low childbirth rates, how many pensions can a country provide with a fast ever-shrinking active/working taxpaying population? My generation will see retirement in their 70s or maybe never. That's one of the downsides of people not having kids
It's 65 here in canada
@@atropabelladonna3120 immigration is unpopular, but it is a side-effect or by-product of an ageing population and small families or people deciding to stay single. The 'social engineers' of the left-wing created that!

Well done dear French may italians learn from you🇮🇹♥️🇫🇷
Italians have already learned their lesson, it's the naive french who haven't yet
This is how the French Revolution started,
How did it start, please? It is not a rhetorical question. How much do you know about the French Revolution?
@@michellemobakeng5938 It's hard to find a starting point of an event as complex as the French revolution, but one could say the "Serment du jeu de paume" on June 20th, 1789 is the closest we got. Basically, most representatives of the "Third State" (not noble, not clergy) gathered in a building in Versailles, and sworn not to leave before France gets a Constitution.
Why do you need a parliament at all if you are going to have a special power that ignore it. The presidential king system is broken.
Meanwhile in some other countries and especially mine, retirement is being considered to be outright cancelled and abolished.
It's about the neoliberal government in general and not just about the pension age!!!
Aux armes!
So there’s not enough money for the people, but more than 40 billion € to invest in the new "war economy!” 🤦🏻♂️
All power to the people!
Any leader would not have done it to any country
I wish British politicians had balls like these fine chaps!
Thanks a lot, great respect for you all.
It's just around the corner 💥💥💥
Government should always spend what it collects from taxes.
chaotic, amazing democracy you have.
Revolution coming in 0.02 seconds...
Special powers? From a Federal Government not wanting to represent its people?? Y'don't say... Seems to be a global problem right now, eh?
Vive la France. True patriots.
The actual age french people can retire at the moment is 62 years. In Germany in comparison it is 67 years. I am pretty sure that if there was an affordable plan to leave the retirement age for the French as ridiculous low as it is now, the government would support it. So what are the sound counter-calculations of these patriotic Marseilles-singer?
They’re singing the wrong song. They should be singing a Beatles remix: Not When I'm Sixty-Four! 🎶

Remember guys
Never mess with the people who have revolution in their blood!
Don't be mistaken when you talk about the French when you are actually talking about the Parisians. These same Parisians who assassinated the king of France, took control and made France the most centralized country in Europe. This is why France is the 2nd country most interested in the British crown and are constantly looking for the providential man.
He said we need a king, I wonder if he wants to end like the last french one now.
I wish we were that brave unless your are an MP who can retire at 55 on a brilliant pension the rest of us will most likely not get to pension age
Un grande applauso ai nostri cugini francesi: vi prego, non fate la nostra fine.
The French people need to STORM the PARLIAMENT.
Was the singing of the Marseillaise also a symbolic (i.e. not literal) hint at revolution?
Yes and (obviously related) the fight for democracy
The only reason for this legislation might be the poor fertility rate in France immigration or birthing policies or automation needs to happen
Viva France!
Vive, viva is Spanish
Come on let the people rest n enjoy their life.however they want. Stop forcing other to work at certain age. The young generation need that job

The french anthem is the only song who's forbidden to interupt in the National Assembly
