PCMR: 'Get a PC, LOL u can download ROMs and pirate games so u don't need to play them. Who cares about legality if it's old, amirite?' RGT85: 'Well, here's a neat mini-console that can easily download old ROMs. I think it's pretty neat.' PCMR: 'OMG, but it's not leeeeeeeegaaaaaaaalllllll!!1!!!' Guys, if emulating games you already own on a _console_ would be illegal, how is it OK on some 'all-powerful' PC? This double-standard BS is why the PC community is just the worst in modern gaming. (Yo, RGT85, if you're reading this... Jaguar support a go?)
Personally I think adversarial attitudes and strawman arguments are a hindrance to a constructive conversation in the community. Also generalising a whole subset of the community is pretty harmful too.
You should read the nintendo terms of conditions. Nintendo doesn't allow any roms AT ALL, EVEN IF YOU OWN AN ORIGINAL COPY. They give you 24hrs to delete your rom.
I already have full rom sets of many systems, is there anyway to just side load those from a thumb drive? I would hate to download everything all over again when I could just plug it in to the system and play away
Josh Butler if this doesn't have a side load feature it will be a brick when the Feds shut down their ROM servers for copy write violation. The product looks good as an idea, but if an investigator got their hands on that beta unit they would shut the project down instantly.
I'd say if the feds were to shut down the ROM source they would already have a backup source that could automatically switch when it realizes the original one isn't there anymore. Pirating material has always been a cat and mouse type of situation and more than likely always will be.
Josh Butler I'm sure but I actually was looking at the game download feature and thinking of a friend of mine who wants a really simple emulation device but normally wouldn't spend $99. because he's insanely poor and has a child to feed. If that software could be setup on his pc easily I would love to set that up for him.
"I already have full rom sets of many systems, is there anyway to just side load those from a thumb drive? I would hate to download everything all over again when I could just plug it in to the system and play away" If it is a Windows PC, then I would imagine that you could plug in a keyboard, alt-tab out of the frontend, and into the Windows desktop (which would be running in the background) and just do what you'd do if you were copying ROMS to a PC. I'm actually surprised RGT85 didn't go into the Windows desktop, or brought up Task Manager to see what its running. If I had one of those, that'd be the first thing I did and if I couldn't get into the Windows desktop, I'd find that rather odd.
"Doubtful, this still has games on it." Put there illegally if they aren't licensed by the original authors, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that. "There was a sub port on the back" What's a sub port and where was it? Because what I saw was, from left to right: a power adaptor socket, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, USB3.0 and a 3.5mm jack. You could feed composite video out through the 3.5mm jack, however if that's what they were doing, I'd expect it to be next to the HDMI and VGA ports "and its not illegal for Roms to be online" Yes, it is. Without the originals publisher's permission at least. "and the feds have more important things to do than take down Roms of old games." That's the first thing you've got right. "Many of the companies put there software online so consumers can download them and play them." So why do emulation sites and forums not like you linking to ROM sites... "People like you and other SJWs" "...SJWs..." OK, Pepe, level with me, what combination of chemicals turned you gay? "have issues with that and try to make a problem out of nothing." I don't have an issue with it, I just hope Dream Arcades get a chance to enjoy spending the money they make from dupes before they get sent to jail. "There are plenty of companies that try to put the more popular games in one central library." Such as? "Other companies like Sony, Sega, and Nintendo have an online store for you to buy other digital games on devices like that." Yes, you *BUY* games from those stores and the original authors gave them permission to *SELL* their games from there. "Another fix that will more than likely be implemented before they get taken down is a universal store to buy them before downloading them." Something they should have arranged before sending fully loaded emulation boxes to drum up attention. "In many places there's already something like that." There isn't here and there never will be. "So stop fear mongering." Spoken like a true Kodi box seller on the night before a dawn raid from Trading Standards.
There was quite a few of us backers that had not even known about it until you did your first vid on this, and we let them know we heard about it from you
I'm a big Pi guy, I have a few questions. I know you don't use the RaspberryPi, but if you could try to answer any of these, I'd appreciate it. First off, love that you can play WrestleFest on here. I think the biggest advantage of this system is that N64 and arcade games will probably run a lot better. Adding ROMs, you're downloading them from their own database.. can we add our own through an SD card or something? I'm asking because who knows, their database might get taken down or something, or we might want to play a custom hack of a game that isn't listed there. The RetroPie lets you customize a lot of stuff. For example, it's showing the American SNES, let's say you want it to display the Japanese Super Famicom instead? Or have the Genesis listed as the European MegaDrive? Could you make those changes? RetroPie also lets you change the order of the systems listed. Is that possible on here? Also game titles. Can you customize those? I took some liberties on my RetroPie with titles to make it a little easier to organize. For example, on the NES, instead of "The Legend of Zelda" being listed under the Ts, and "Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link" being listed under the Zs, I changed their titles to "Legend of Zelda" and "Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link" so that they are both listed under the Ls. Can you do something like this on the Dreamcade? I know it seems like a small detail, but when you're trying to organize hundreds of games, it helps. How does saving work? RetroPie allows you to save in-game just like you would on the actual cartridge. But you can also save anytime in the game using the RetroPie's save slots. And could you try an SNES game that uses a SFX chip like Super Mario World 2 or Star Fox to see how it handles those games? And what's the "Come on Eileen" on the top left, are you able to add background MP3s to the menu? Thanks! Edit, oh one more thing, is there a way to enter cheat codes from like Gameshark or Game Genie? Thanks!
I'll try my best! You can add games via SD card. I believe you can customize things, I'm not sure about title. Saves are onto the HD, quick saves and all that. I played Doom and it worked fine. Yes, you can add MP3s, didn't really explore it though.
There's a channel called DrewTalks that interviews them as well as has a video discussing the technical aspects. I haven't watched it yet but I too have similar questions about it. This prefab version aside if it truly seems like a viable board to take a build to the next level I would be very interested in buying one to setup myself.
He has shown it playing an arcade game, I'd assume he's using MAME for that. Thought to be honest, I'd wait until after they're released and available for shipping before spending actual money.
It seems to me there are some pre-approved Arcade games with compatibility in MAME. I would like to see what the entire MAME compatibility is. Like you said, I will wait until the final product comes out to see if it's worth purchasing.
That looks like it'll be great. Just one question. Was it able to sort consoles by company. For example, have a listing of NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy, right next to each other, instead of the full alphabetical listing?
Yep, it's a modified Vorke V1, and a Tronsmart Stick. We've got quote from three PC and three stick vendors. When we know the final order quality, we'll negotiate in person and pick a final vendor.
DreamArcades please choose a model with enough grunt. I'd rather pay a bit more for power to run smoother, compared to a model that is just sufficient.
RGT 85 can u elaborate on the usb ports on the front as well as the sd card slot. does the controller have to be wireless? great review on the system by the way!
Im all about physical hardware, but at the end of the day, if we can have more people enjoying these older games im all for it, becouse thats what its about
Thanks for showing how easy it is to load new games. That is what I had been trying to find out, as I am not too computer savvy. Went to kickstarter and pre-ordered one because of your vid. Well done.
I was looking for the anti emulation comments and was found wanting! This looks great and I've been playing with emulators and roms since the DOS days. Nothing really special about this system as I've used custom android boxes which do this exact thing but I really hope it does well! Nice video!
Bradley Gamer Saturn emulation still isn't 100% developed, the hardware was quite complex! Most generally you need a high end PC to even play at low frame rates.
I roll my eyes when people complain about downloading roms. The flood gates have been open for about 2 decades. Has anyone ever been sued for downloading and playing for one's own use? I've never heard of any such law suit unlike the recording industry. Perhaps websites that provide the roms have been sued and shut down. Perhaps this little ROM downloading product will get tied up in court. Either way rom downloading will likely never end. So quit bitching about it being illegal unless you own the rom. Your high horse looks more like a crippled pony.
And you hear people being all high and mighty about it and probably do do most legal roms but guarantee they have "accidentally" downloaded some they didn't own etc
"And you hear people being all high and mighty about it and probably do do most legal roms but guarantee they have "accidentally" downloaded some they didn't own etc" Well, thank you for making that assumption about me! The only difference between illegally downloading ROMs and illegally downloading Game of Thrones episodes or illegally streaming EPL matches is the TV and movie studios are pursuing court orders *NOW* the games publishers haven't got round to it *...YET!!!* Do you honestly think that the various games publishers haven't noticed this buzz? Really? Are you _genuinely_ that congenitally dumb?
GeoNeilUK I've been downloading arcade and console emulators for 20 years. ROMs and emulators are never going away. There's really no way for publishers to stop it. It's just like when Nintendo sent a cease and desist order to the maker of AM2R. Sure, he took it down from HIS site but it's still easy to find a mirror of it in about two minutes. In twenty years I've never seen Nintendo aggressively go after ROM sites or if they are it sure isn't working. Perhaps because the sites are hosted in countries that don't enforce copyright law.
i was on Pat the NES Punks channel, and he was trashing this because the creators are profiting off emulation. now i like most of Pat's videos, but it strikes me as insanely hypocritical of him because he constantly advertises for launchbox. you know that emulation front end that charges you a yearly fee? LOL totally want one of these badboys.
You mention "trouble finding the mouse"- if you have time could you post more about that? (I'm only 3:30 in, you likely address it more in this vid. Your collection should replace the Mona Lisa! I'm hoping to get a RetroPie setup working tomorrow!
I think you are on the right track with that. A bit expensive for an emulation machine when a retro pi setup might be cheaper. That being said this was a great objective review and hopefully they take your feedback and make improvements for the final product ... if so it will be a really nice emulation machine particularly if they can emulate arcade games well.
Menu driven system to just download a game and play straight away is nice. I am an avid Retropie user but this will have a good bit more punch. I think it has an interesting future.
this is good way to play retro hard to find to buy games but i still think to help gaming industry to continue to thrive there should be way to buy legal copies of older games..maybe a booth that lets you play short demos then machine that can make you on demand copies of any of them..so to continue to support companies that make them so they keep making them..can give them royalties from purchases of copies by permission of having them on retro reissue machine booths librairies ones can order and buy..so they won't have to market out or guess which ones people would want with risk that some may not sell and be overstock..some can be on demand style where can buy physical copy and machine burns it onto a disc or cart for you..like ds or playstation disc etc as you request or as machine would be easiest to make..and if can't make it right then, it could be where can order special copy..and not low quality repro copy that may be bad for console but good quality
Yes and No. this is a plug'n'play. bluetooth support, and makes rom searching that much easier. Seems like this is for the more lazy oriented but hey its got windows 10, and seems easy enough to manage. It's up to the individual to see if this worth the 99$ or not, people tend spend about that for a prec-onfigured RaspberryPis but this claims to run N64 and ps1 better than raspberry pis. So who knows?
The City of the Lost Chidlren.... .man such an awesome movie. It is French and stars Ron Perlman. Wicked style... never played the game... but I know if you have not seen the movie... you must :P
I have two questions. First do you think once its release that the big companies may go after them and cause them to shutdown. Cause I would hate to end up with a system with no support. Secondly what are your taught on this system vs a psp go using the tv out with a Bluetooth controller? Because I like the idea of the psp go. I can still play when on the go and when at home just hook it up almost like my switch.
What's up rgt, I just started my sega genesis collection. I got the retron 5 but the controller sucks, any good recommendation for a 6 button genesis controller ?
I definitely want a dreamcade, so I can play classic Nintendo games, Sega games, & maybe games on play station consoles that I've never played or heard of before (if they're appropriate, because I don't like inappropriate games).
Hey RGT! So can I run all old arcade games on this? I've been looking for something that'll play cps2 with ease. If so im buying one like yesterday! Lol
It's a pc so yeah, cps2 will run. If you noticed when he loaded up sonic. You see something on the bottom of the screen for a quick sec. That thing is using Mame cuz on my pc mame does the same thing. CPS2 games are compatible with MAME. You can buy that thing or just use your computer. That thing is a computer anyway. Mine as well use the one you got.
So for PS1 games it uses an emulator that doesn't use a bios which may or may not impact compatibility. Also is it a plug in based N64 emulator or non plug in based?
I'm also building a suitcase system with a 15" (or 19") flat LCD monitor, Dreamcast with a VGA Dreamcast "MAMED" disc and all native D.C. Games is just a switch to work perfectly, also storage for at least 2 controllers, a pair of cheap Pc speakers (in one Audio bar, hopefully a couple fans) and surge protecting power strip (main). I'm pretty excited! Easy build- I just have to have Industrial Velcro for much of it. Then play! I was sick of hotels who's tv's don't even have any inputs. If I can get it all set and working, I'll be thrilled!!! Thanks for everything!
How much storage and what kind? Is it all on an sd card, ssd or do you need to hook up external usb? Already ordered one. Costs less than a Vorke so don't understand the complaints. The interface software is great and worth extra money.
I'm blown away with the idea. $77 to send to the UK! I think not. This has killed it before its even started. Shame. Saw the video and thought I want one of those... Lower the shipping and orders will flood in I reckon.
The Dreamcade con-men basically took a dirt cheap barebones version of a nook, installed other well established devs' perfected emus on it, rebranded them w/ there own name (and cheesy looking GUI) and are now selling these boxes to the masses like they invented it. RGT85 is getting a hard on over this BS when in actuality these con-men are attempting to profit over a number of devs' open source projects that they sweated over for years to develop on their own spare time not making a dime, (maybe minor donations) w/o any kind of recognition or royalties received. And these con-men think they are doing the potential consumer a favor by offering a download service for roms and console "cores" from their own 'dedicated' server like RetroArch. Please! The day these boxes are mass marketed on any online retailer or brick and mortar for that matter, the con-men's little deck of cards empire will come toppling down and those backers' payments will get squandered in place of the legal fees they'll presented w/ based on their hogwash 'untouchable status' mentality.
At my college they have two Dream Arcades. They have the same interface as this but they look like an actually arcade cabinet. Same company? Or rip off?
It runs full-blown Win10 even though it only costs 100 bucks? Something tells me the issues of legality don't stop with the ROMs here...Granted though, it is pretty neat, even if it's not something I'd ever go out and buy since I already have my PC plugged into my TV.
I can easily download a Windows 10 iso from Microsoft website and use it without limitations, only a watermark on the desktop. Microsoft wants to move to a business similar to Google, so it's actually good for them if Windows 10 is used by many people as possible.
You could get a retro pi for half the price and do everything other than 64, that's basically the only thing this emulates the Pi struggles with. The dreamcade looks cool and such but I dunno what separates it from other mini PCs.
can games be added via usb or sd card? cause that online service could end one day. sooner than we think depending on how fast dreamcade starts getting sued due to this online download service.
As a old school gamer who hates online play and the new loot box pay to play model, emulation is the future for me , i recently got a super retro cade and haven't played my xbox ever since, developers are going to fall into another video game crash just like the Atari nonsense in the 80s. If they can create a emulator that can edit games, generate user levels, offer graphics and sound libraries ,and come with thousands of preloaded games I would gladly pay next generation console prices for such an item. Great video this seems cool and a good start towards what I want.

this console is a win 10 pc anyway it is intel based like the gpd win...
the prototype he show is actually one of those chinese gearbest pc...
Vadel Vadel I almost forgot that the Jaguar was a Nintendo system; my whole life has been a lie.
What a time to be alive! Retro lovers unite! Haha great stuff, Shawn!
Thanks man, i will be picking this up when it comes out
"...and another video out.."
Thats called VGA, its only been around for a few decades.
lol
Yep, i was using VGA in the late 80's lol!
RetroSteve if you can't tell, he seems pretty clueless about computers.
I'm sure Adam Koralik can fix his wagon when those two meet up again. xd
Jeff is right. I'm not a computer guy at all. Plus I had a brain fart :P
Not gaming related but I really dig that Biggie shirt! Keep on doing what you do man, love your channel.

awesome video as always sir! definitely going to pick this system up! can't wait and the ease of use is awesome!

Does it support xbox360 or ps3 arcadesticks?
And are there any crt filter options?
Thanks in advice
i was on Pat the NES Punks channel, and he was trashing this because the creators are profiting off emulation. now i like most of Pat's videos, but it strikes me as insanely hypocritical of him because he constantly advertises for launchbox. you know that emulation front end that charges you a yearly fee? LOL
totally want one of these badboys.
You mention "trouble finding the mouse"- if you have time could you post more about that? (I'm only 3:30 in, you likely address it more in this vid. Your collection should replace the Mona Lisa! I'm hoping to get a RetroPie setup working tomorrow!
Have they announced a price point yet?
Hey RGT85! Just wondering if there was any word on this thing? Is it coming out?
are all the emulaters already on it
I think you are on the right track with that. A bit expensive for an emulation machine when a retro pi setup might be cheaper. That being said this was a great objective review and hopefully they take your feedback and make improvements for the final product ... if so it will be a really nice emulation machine particularly if they can emulate arcade games well.
is this the same thing that's now called dreamcade replay?
Awesome video Shawn!
But what about Retro Pi?
lol
But can it run Crysis?? right... haha
Menu driven system to just download a game and play straight away is nice. I am an avid Retropie user but this will have a good bit more punch. I think it has an interesting future.
Are there tate options to play shoot em ups
In the right aspect ratio?
this is good way to play retro hard to find to buy games but i still think to help gaming industry to continue to thrive there should be way to buy legal copies of older games..maybe a booth that lets you play short demos then machine that can make you on demand copies of any of them..so to continue to support companies that make them so they keep making them..can give them royalties from purchases of copies by permission of having them on retro reissue machine booths librairies ones can order and buy..so they won't have to market out or guess which ones people would want with risk that some may not sell and be overstock..some can be on demand style where can buy physical copy and machine burns it onto a disc or cart for you..like ds or playstation disc etc as you request or as machine would be easiest to make..and if can't make it right then, it could be where can order special copy..and not low quality repro copy that may be bad for console but good quality
Why not just dl roms on the pc who is this for ?
E Mac ppl ignorant to the world of emulation
I can hook my pc to my tv this is a total waste of money
Yes and No. this is a plug'n'play. bluetooth support, and makes rom searching that much easier.
Wicked style... never played the game... but I know if you have not seen the movie... you must :P
Shawn can you open this up and share a Picture of the board
I think its a custom board but from the specs on their site (where there is little info) it sounds like basically one of those intel compute sticks.
Let us know whn it drops.
Are you able to load your own roms or can you only get them from the search engine?
kool system where can i buy one?By the way how much?I would like to play again wrestle fest and the tmnt arcade and Crimefighters.
+Fidel Castrosolis their Kickstarter is over but they should be available soon
Man, I want one of these......the rom downloading function is pretty awesome......
"To explain why I'm playing so bad"
It's Sonic. All buttons are jump.
I know you meant the other games too, just teasing you.
Hahaha
I have two questions. First do you think once its release that the big companies may go after them and cause them to shutdown. Cause I would hate to end up with a system with no support. Secondly what are your taught on this system vs a psp go using the tv out with a Bluetooth controller? Because I like the idea of the psp go. I can still play when on the go and when at home just hook it up almost like my switch.
What's up rgt, I just started my sega genesis collection. I got the retron 5 but the controller sucks, any good recommendation for a 6 button genesis controller ?
GamerzTek makes a solid replacement controller.
Do the emulators support filter, scanline options etc?
For the record the Wii homebrew channel plays WWF WRESTLEFEST flawlessly.
So how did this turn out?
So will arcade sticks work?
I want one of those dream arcade mini systems. 😍
What kind of video filters it have?
Are they planning to emulate dreamcast on this?
how would this emulation compare to a og xbox with emulous on it
I definitely want a dreamcade, so I can play classic Nintendo games, Sega games, & maybe games on play station consoles that I've never played or heard of before (if they're appropriate, because I don't like inappropriate games).
Hey RGT! So can I run all old arcade games on this? I've been looking for something that'll play cps2 with ease. If so im buying one like yesterday! Lol
vernon harley cps2 should be no problem for this, assuming no software issues. Many low-power devices handle cps2 with ease.
You can play all CPS2 games on a Wii or Wii U with retroarch.
Yes, we're using a modified version of MAME for a lot of the emulators.
It's just a Vorke V1 MINI PC and The controller is Tronsmart Mars G01 ahahaha
So for PS1 games it uses an emulator that doesn't use a bios which may or may not impact compatibility. Also is it a plug in based N64 emulator or non plug in based?
I am interested in that red robot you have in the back. what game is it. please tell me the name of that robot game
How does it play things like PS2, Cube and OG Xbox?
Is it possible to quick save in the games like in emulators for PC?
Is there an option to upload games via usb and/or SD card?
Where's the turbo graphx 16 emulators?
Happy chic emulator for Android has ROMs for download. The dreamcade looks good. Does it have Dreamcast or Sega Saturn? If not will they be added?
Hey brother, what did you think of the controller it comes with? Is it a solid controller? Or not worth the money?
Defently going to look into it. That is exactly what I need in my life...
How much storage and what kind? Is it all on an sd card, ssd or do you need to hook up external usb? Already ordered one. Costs less than a Vorke so don't understand the complaints. The interface software is great and worth extra money.
+Mike Libidinsky comes with built in and can use external. I *think* it's 64gb
I have every system rom on my PC, but if you don't this seems to be another cool way to play retro games.
I wonder if the software can just be downloaded on a regular pc. 😁
MobileDecay I am sure it's just a front end for RetroArch.
So just like a RetroPie than!
No, it's our own custom front-end.
I like it! Only way I'm gonna get to play expensive games in HD. I used to be against emulation until I realized how expensive my hobby had become!
At my college they have two Dream Arcades. They have the same interface as this but they look like an actually arcade cabinet. Same company? Or rip off?
Looks amazing might get one when they get it sorted
Oh man, Pat the NES Punk and Ian would hate you😂😂
Definitely getting a Dreamcade when they become available !!!
It runs full-blown Win10 even though it only costs 100 bucks? Something tells me the issues of legality don't stop with the ROMs here...Granted though, it is pretty neat, even if it's not something I'd ever go out and buy since I already have my PC plugged into my TV.
Dodongo Bomber For that argument I'm 99.99% sure windows 10 is free for "mini/micro pc's"
I can easily download a Windows 10 iso from Microsoft website and use it without limitations, only a watermark on the desktop. Microsoft wants to move to a business similar to Google, so it's actually good for them if Windows 10 is used by many people as possible.
Does this emulate Dreamcast or Naomi hardware?
Damn it!!! The Retrollectors, Retro-Llectors not Retro Collectors:/ lol. Jk. Thanks for reading and choosing our question for the video.
what about sega cd, sega Saturn & dreamcast games? does it play those? what about portable games?
It says you raised over $238,000 for the Kickstarter for this. Where's the actual purchase link then?
what cpu does it use
what about save states?
What are the specs of the system?
You could get a retro pi for half the price and do everything other than 64, that's basically the only thing this emulates the Pi struggles with. The dreamcade looks cool and such but I dunno what separates it from other mini PCs.
Are games downloaded into dreamcade or streamed?
both!
RGT 85 looks like a great product! Really considering it.. great for people like me that dont know how to setup a pi
can games be added via usb or sd card? cause that online service could end one day. sooner than we think depending on how fast dreamcade starts getting sued due to this online download service.
Yo RGT 85 great review/first look video. The DreamCade looks awesome definitely looks like a hit on the cards.
Any Sega Saturn Emulation? Why can't I find anything besides a PC or Shield TV that can emulate Sega Saturn????
can you add turbo graphx 16 and Cd?
As a old school gamer who hates online play and the new loot box pay to play model, emulation is the future for me , i recently got a super retro cade and haven't played my xbox ever since, developers are going to fall into another video game crash just like the Atari nonsense in the 80s. If they can create a emulator that can edit games, generate user levels, offer graphics and sound libraries ,and come with thousands of preloaded games I would gladly pay next generation console prices for such an item. Great video this seems cool and a good start towards what I want.
how did wcw vs nwo run?
If you can't upgrade the Ram what's the point
Does it support Atari Jaguar or Sega Saturn?
Can it play MUGEN?
Can it emulate dreamcast?
