The way Martin moves is exactly how I picture him. Always in motion, awkward because he is so aware of where his body is. Also, the way the last "Sorry" was given context in this animation is a whole another level.
Your S1!Jon design makes me want to shove him in a locker, meaning you perfectly captured his character. Also love how animated Martin is while he explains
Jon's angry smug little smile when Martin knows his name and is terrified is such a great acting choice for him. What a great way to encapsulate his shitty boss energy.
i LOOOVE that the larger guy's defining line on their neck is a soft shade rather than a hard line. it really really sells the softness of their features! i've never thought to do that
Now this is Jonathan Sims. A lot of artists have very good interpretations of him, but this is the first one I've seen that fits how I imagined him perfectly. Excellent video keep it up
Same here! I see him done with long hair and an arched nose really often which certainly suits him, but THIS is what he looks like in my head, vest included
@@KingOfTheBirds72 I saw someone on Reddit draw how they pictured him in each season and about every other season, they had him dressing like a grandma with a sweater and long skirt. It's fine for them to picture him that way, but I have wonder how they got that idea.
I love the fact that Martin was recreating the scene. Since he usually forgot birds' name when he's anxious and try to imitate them, I think that's fitting
Now I have this hilarious image of this being a sign taped up somewhere in the archives for the whole series. Tim made it, and It gets progressively more deterioration as the story progresses.
Interacting with TMA content before Ive even finished watching season 1 is such a dangerous game because most of the spoilers don't even mean anything. The jumps required to get from A to B are so drastic that I could not possibly piece together the information I currently have to come up with how they would happen beyond guesses. I'm literally in love with your Martin. His physicality I can completely relate to, acting things out to try and make Jon understand. The way he moves and smiles and makes himself more approachable despite being so tall and God, his face!!! His beautiful face!!!!! I am in love!!! Jon's there and gorgeous and lovely, a wonderful contrast to martins movement and energy with his sternness, but just!! MAHTIN!!! I'm so in love
The "camera" and character positioning in this is FANTASTIC, and Martin in particular is so animated that this feels more like, well, an animation than an animatic. I adooooooore their designs, too!!!
two hours ago?? niceee im so glad i saw this the way they move and their expressions are perfect for their season 1 character and its just so good! the face jon made when hinting at "resolve the dog situation immediately" like "get on with it" such a small yet great touch
Hey just so you know, this animatic is what made me start listening to the Magnus Archives. You captured Jon like you were an anomalous entity. Seriously, those expressions are divine.
I will have you know, I saw this once before. Moved on. It came across my feed again maybe a year or so later. Watched it. Went "oh I remember this. It's funny but not.. *that* funny? It has a whole show? Idk I wanna check it out, see how exactly this got a whole show. Must be a reason." So I typed in Magnus Archives here on youtube. Did not expect a podcast. Anyway, I have consumed the entire thing in a month (taking small breaks for work, family issues, and just mental health breaks because horror takes a toll on me.). I am on the last 5 episodes. And I am obsessed. My friend had mentioned it to me before and I zoned out 5 minutes in and never listened again. So, thanks to you and this, I got around to giving it a listen finally. Such. A good. Podcast. ❤
I have absolutely no context for this but good LORD is this an incredible animatic(?). How are their motions somehow so smooth? It's just - the body language is --- I can't describe it, but it's SO GOOD.
Artist tip!! I draw arcs and curves when I plan character movements! It makes it look more natural--only robots move in perfect straight lines. So when the larger man (Martin) is talking about the dog, his hands move around invisible curves, and when he leans back and around, you can track the motion of his head around an invisible circle!!! I also filmed myself acting out both parts for inspiration AND I keep a mirror at my desk to make faces into to check while I draw!
OH MY GOSH, YOU'RE THE SAME PERSON WHO DID THE JON AND PETER ANIMATION!!! Gosh, you nailed the expressions in this one!!! I could watch your videos on loop forever, the way you animate is so satisfying to watch, I LOVE IT!!!

I just want to say that your TMA animations are EVERYTHING! just SO GOOD!! the expressions, use of body language and linework?? They really make the scenes come to life! And i love your archivist design so much
This animatic and it artstyle looks phenomenal. The character designs and the background look absolutely wonderful. Also, this conversation between Jon and Martin hits differently after the final episode of The Magnus Archives.
I have to say not only is this simply fantastically animated and the expressions fantastic, but the artstyle is I wanna say uncannily similar to Disney's Atlantis. To the point were I thought it was what was been shown
oh my god I just watched this and like, the voice acting is already immaculate (the hesitancy, pacing out the story slowly, the sharp inhales and exhales of annoyance, gah) but this character work really brings it all to life spectacularly! I love the shape language of the two characters, further playing into their personalities and I love the little visual jokes of indicating how the dog got past martin, and martin's second sorry being interpreted as him turning around and going the other way...I haven't even listened to TMA but I'm intrigued now, this was wonderfully!!
Oh my god I'm SO excited you've uploaded more. Your designs and ideas have just turned into my personal canon for aesthetic-looks. This is such amazing work!! The expressions and gestures so fluid and natural. Thank you for the upload!!
Ah, I love these designs! And their faces are so expressive! Also, Martin's gesturing as he explains how the dog got in is the most endearing thing in the world
Im getting some nice 90s vibes from your animation style. Its quite comparible to the art styling of animations like Iron Giant with the sharp chins and expressive faces. And quite possibly El Dorado to with the body expression. Keep at it, I'm seeing stars in your future.
I haven't seen any new tma art in a minute and this simply blew me away. I was giggling at audio I've heard a million times because hiw how great the expressions were
Omg. this is. PERFECTION. I love your Jon and Martin so freaking much, exactly how I envisioned them. It's genuinely like you've pulled them out of my brain and breathed life into them, it's so good. I also saw a comment about Jon's "eyebrow raise of judgyness" and I wholeheartedly agree. While I'm at it, Martin's movements are *chefs kiss*. And not only that; you've managed to capture both their characterizations simply through their expressions and mannerisms. Not an easy thing to do!! I particularly love the way Martin visually shows Jon how he held open the door with his leg. And then there's the way Jon's eyes dart to the side right before he says "no you don't". OH and the way his face changes after Martin says "I mean, yeah, probably." Like it's so subtle but oh my god is it GOOD. Sorry for this mess of a comment, I just really, really loved this! ^.^ Amazing job

Why wouldn't everyone's favourite workplace comedy feel like a sitcom?

Biblically accurate Jon and his eyebrow raise of judgyness
_Biblically_ 🤣

And then they kissed, and lived together in a safe house

Martin blushing when Jon replies with the stupidest response is so correct
