      Vietnam was super friendly. Not in an annoying way either but in a "genuinely pleased to see you" way.

    We did a five week tour in veitnam it took me awhile to learn there driving on the road always be careful they will not look before turning on to a street. If you ride with out panniers they will bump you more often. Never saw a traffic jam they don't stop just keep going. I thought it was a great place to visit very friendly people. Just a little LOAD all the freaking time.

    Great Video as always Adam & Lucia, very wise on the workers vest to wear in Hanoi. I laughed out loud when you mentioned the honking horns and flashing light by the drivers to indicate the drivers intent of right-of-way, it reminded me of a few taxi rides in Saudi when I was over there years ago. You would be sitting the back seat and the crazy driver would be just barreling down the road in a huge Chevy Caprice with a fuel economy gauge installed non the less. You would say something about his driving or lack there of and they would turn and smile and say, "We won't die today, Allah did not will it" Yes great comfort in knowing that LOL. Stay safe and Godspeed!

      In 2014/5, I rode 4,200 miles starting in HCM and finishing in Chengdu, with 600 miles on buses. NO helmet or clown shirt. Pffft I saw or heard 2 dozen crashes, big and small. Managed to crash myself thru/ on a road construction fence. THEN they tied it up properly. :b... Anyway, riding there is FUN.
      The RULE is, look in front and GTFOOTW of buses.

    Nice video. Wondering how you did the intro map and moving line. Thanks. Dan

    • @PathfinderBikepacking
      @PathfinderBikepacking  5 лет назад

      Thank you. It’s quite difficult to explain how I do the maps. Basically, I have two images. One is a map that is blank and the second with the route marked (using photoshop). Both images need to be exactly the same size and have the same map. I add both images to my editing timeline with the image with the route above the blank image. I then apply a “draw mask” effect to the image with the route marked and then frame by frame, I reveal the route. I hope that makes sense. The “correct” way to do it would be using a motion graphics software like After Effects but my fix is a much cheaper alternative.

If you ever get the chance I would love a quick “kit video” the camera one was great and I’m really interested in seeing what ‘essentials’ you are touring with as those bikes look heavy! Keep safe 😊

    Very inspirational series here. I'm planning my first cycling adventure, Exeter to Stoke on Trent, compared to this, it sounds quite pathetic really, but hoping this trip will be the beginning of many more to come, that will hopefully end in more exciting locations! Adam/Lucia, do you have any tips for a first timer? Bear in mind I'm doing this on a road bike rather than a tourer!

    • @PathfinderBikepacking
      @PathfinderBikepacking  5 лет назад

      Hi Will, Adam here. That’s awesome. Not pathetic in the slightest. We all start somewhere. Just setting off is the hardest thing.
      Here are some tips for a first timer of the top of my head:
      Don’t worry about filming/taking too many pictures. Live in the moment on your first tour. But do take a picture of yourself just before you set off and again when you arrive at the destination. You’ll appreciate it in the future.
      Speak to strangers and tell them what your doing. It can lead to interesting conversations.
      I’m not sure how your carrying kit but it’s difficult on a road bike. The did my first tour on a cheap road bike through France, Belgium and Luxembourg. I got a seatpost rack and put a rucksack on it. The rack only just survived without cracking which is why I’ve since upgraded to a proper touring bike with decent racks. Try not to carry anything on your body (like a rucksacks) if at all possible.
      Don’t be too focused on distance for each day.
      Stop before you’re tired.
      Whatever you think you can ride on the first day, ride half that distance and build into it. Even if it feels too easy.
      Don’t obsess or focus to much on gear. Use what you already have and make do.
      Take people’s advice on the internet with a pinch of salt😉 and do what feels right.
      Bike touring is a simple activity at heart but it absolutely has its challenges. The weather, terrain, food, route selection, your health and hundreds of other things all contribute to a successful journey.
      Just focus on getting to the end of first day and not completing the whole thing. Once you’ve completed the first day, everything will feel a bit easier from there.

    • @WillMorgan89
      @WillMorgan89 5 лет назад

      @@PathfinderBikepacking Hi Adam, wow, thanks for the detailed reply!
      Unfortunately in this instance I'll have to focus on distance as I'm hoping to complete it over a weekend, I'll just have to keep it to a slow pace! However, I do intend on doing some proper touring at which point I'll invest in a more suitable bike.
      I've bought a waterproof bag which attaches to my frame to store rechargeable batteries, food supplies and spares. As far as filming is concerned, for my first trip I think I'll just do a time-lapse from start to finish for each day to keep things simple!
      Thanks again for the in depth response, I really appreciate it, and I'm surprised you had time to write it all!
      Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your tour, and do keep uploading! The wife and I very much enjoy your videos.

      Bit of luck with the Vietnam one. We found a shop selling them for next to nothing. Some countries are trickier to find (such a Thailand or Laos) but not impossible.
