Got 1 there really bright off Amazon
As a joiner who can skim a wall or ceiling and get a good finish but not a plasterer that ceiling would be absolutely terrifying 😆. I remember trying to plaster a ceiling 10 by 5m once years ago and the stress was absolutely horrific 🤣. Used the blue grit and the suction was absolutely insane. Was going off 20 mins into first coat. Looked horrible when finished tbh and really learned a lesson on where my skill levels were! Ended up not charging the customer any money and paid my decorator to easy fill sand and get it perfect! Anyone who doesn’t realise the skill involved in big ceilings needs to try one!!
I am always impressed by how flat and smooth you guys get those walls and ceilings with just a trowel.
I am replacing all the drywall in my house and if I could get that kind of finish without sanding it would be so much less mess to worry about.
Nice to see workers doing there job and having a good laugh while working , thank you Kirk for the video I enjoyed it !!
I did a vaulted ceiling a touch smaller than this on my own about 8yrs ago…..started at 8am and finished it about 4pm…..I was well and truly f****d after! Not to mention a vaulted ceiling like this ruins your shoulder! Lovely job as always 👍
Great video Kirk. Love the old site stories. Ceiling looked spot on.
Always amazing to watch your content, you've given a load of tips that I take on board, don't get me wrong I'm miles away from being able to plaster lol, but watching you definitely helps as I have a project coming up soon, that will hopefully not look too bad afterwards 🤞🤞
What a video this is..... just some guys havin a laugh.... sharing stories and bonding through work!
100% brother. It was a great day
@Onthetrowel look at us now..... goin for currys etc haha
Was wondering where you been then you pop up ,great video once again thanks kirk, love hearing the old site stories 😂
Cheers mate
Not a plasterer by any means but watching your vids I am able to do a bit of touch ups in the care home I am maintenence at,cheers men
Kirk we always have a laff when you work with other spreads can’t beat it nice job as well 👍 we just doing a loft extension on bungalow helping me 2 mates out got to have the crack on jobs makes the day go quicker lol
The crack on site is priceless 😊
Man I cannot move my hands and shoulders I was plastering my bedroom today. I am guessing you guys are in better shape because you do it every day. I have the feeling that tomorrow I will only be able to open my eyes
It's just muscle memory.
I remember when I was learning and my arms felt like they would drop off 🤣
@Onthetrowel yeah I didn't do hard work for some time and now I feel like I was run over by a train. I used a plaster retarder just in case. The problem I have is curves. How the hell do you pro's make curves look so good? Everything I try I end up plastering thick layers and I have to repair it
It's hard to explain mate, it's only easy once skimming with a trowel is second nature.
It’s because you are just so inefficient when you do this once in a blue moon!
Brilliant bud
Loving the videos mate keep it up ❤
Hope you enjoy them mate
Top form.!
Hey kirk another class bit of plastering mate
That blokes beard dipping in the finish everytime he loaded a board 😂
Got onto that meself be full of skim that shave it off
It washes out same as if you get a good plop on your hair.
I prefer him with the beard, he was a sound guy.
Didn't talk much but you didn't need to ask him for a thing, he was on top of his game and was a lovely bloke
@@Onthetrowela good labourer is a valuable member of the team. It can make all the difference between a nightmare of a day and an easy day. They get extra points for having a magnificent beard!
I'm in the process of buying a 200 year old property which will undoubtedly need some plastering. Have you done any videos on old properties? I'm confused as to whether it requires lime plaster or if I can use insulated plasterboard and skim with multifinish? It has solid 50-60cm walls.😮😮😂
Great channel subscribed 👍
We have a very similar job to this but perhaps twice the size and I am struggling to find a plastering team I trust to do the job. We have had a few quote and then bail even after confirming a start date. We know its a tricky job but we are getting very frustrated getting someone to take on the job,
Kirk you need some zero drop shoes, being on your feet all day with heels on a recipe for bad knees.
Nice job.👍
Teamwork! Gotta have enough arms and legs on the job! 👍🏻
Absolutely!!
Great content and a top job 👏 🎉
Thanks mate
Love ya work pal 👍 I'm a decorator based in Middlewich not far from you.
Just one thing, polishing plaster does have problems for painters mate. It's hard to tell from your videos how mental you go with it but it definitely can affect how the paint keys to it
I give it a once over but I don't waste time and energy shining it like a mirror
With age comes experience and quality.
100%
With practice comes experience and quality.! You can get old and still be bad at everything.
Kirk if you're staining wood then the grit of the sanding makes a difference on what you're using and how it absorbs into the wood. If you polish the plaster up then does that mess with the painters mist coat or base coat?
No mate, they just struggle with the roller sliding and the paint not sticking properly. It's an interesting thought though mate
Wish I could work with kirk. Make plastering fun again 🤣
Hi Kirk, I am accidentally managed to smear some foam on the face of some plasterboard. Wiped off as best I could, just a thin smear now.
Will this be ok when I get a plasterer to skim? I’m guessing hopefully some sbr or skrim over the top might do the trick? Cheers
It will be absolutely fine mate, don't worry about it
@@Onthetrowelnice one!
Smashed it 💪 what size trowel do you use mate ?
I use a 14 x 4 carbon steel mate
@@Onthetrowel what's the benefit of a narrow trowel ?
Doesn't seem to slow me down at all, less pressure on the wrist and I find it feels more precise
@Onthetrowel interesting might have to give it ago 👀 if I tried using one after using a 5inch will all the plaster fall of the back of it when doing a ceiling ? If that makes sense
Did anyone notice he had 1 Nike sock on and 1 puma😂
They were the same colour, I was going to work, not on a date 🤣🤣
@@Onthetrowel😂
@@Onthetrowel let you off🤣🤣
I was watching his hands, I didn't even notice if he had boots on.
He’s got another pair just like them at home 😊
Is it possible to plater whilst in UK Police handcuffs
Yes, it just takes longer but still possible
First one here
You were fast 👌
If your mixer broke Kirk that apprentice could stur the plaster mix with his beard!
What's his name? Gandalf?
😆😆
Kirk mate u have 1 nike sock and 1 puma mate 😂😂😂😂😂
They were both white.
I just reach in the table dryer to get dressed mate 🤣
@@Onthetrowel 😂😂 let you away with it because it's work 😂👍
@rosco7280 🤣🤣
A hate when u burn your ear on hot bulb skimming a ceiling 😅
Or the back of your arm

@@Onthetrowel nice pint at the 3 stags after work mate Mississippi’s is over the road nice in there to mate
Ox speed skim and proper scaff kirk smarter not harder come on lad 😂😂😂
I only really get the speedskim out on artex ceilings.
The scaff was sufficient enough for me, steady does it... you know the score mate
The Refina one r better mate in my opinion the corners to

Yep I'll have that, your right about the build quality and the corners
"With age comes wisdom" - Kirk's maybe going to abandon the rat race and take up taoist philosophy at this rate!
I prefer the philosophy of objectivism, I'm a fan of Ayn Rand and her writings.
Now the story of how I wound up there is quite interesting.
Steroids.
In my 20,s I was big into bodybuilding and I came across the work of a gentleman by the name of Mike mentzer. It was studying the life of Mike that I was directed to Ayn.
Mike was a big fan of her writings as it influenced his bodybuilding journey.
A great book to read it "atlas shrugged" if my memory serves me right 🙂👍
@@Onthetrowel Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead really changed my views on pretty much everything. They should be required reading in schools.
