    Growing up watching him in his prime was the absolute best. Especially in his MTL years. Everytime he stepped on the ice you knew something good was gonna happen. He was THE playmaker for the Habs on the backend. Loved his game and what he’s done off the ice as well. Just an electrifying player in his prime.

    Im not much of a hockey fan and Im from Ottawa, but you can see the impact hes had on and off the ice. Hes inspired a ton of kids not only to pursue hockey as a dream, but hes done a lot to impact both children and adults to keep their dreams of whatever they pursue alive. Hes also done a lot for racism in Canada and Quebec. Its not a topic often talked about, but something about your favourite Hockey teams best player being a person of colour makes people impact how they see and interact with the rest of us people of colour. His impact will be felt for years and years in ways hell have never even realized. I think I speak for Montreal, Quebec and all of Canada when we say thank you. An amazing hockey player, but an even better human being.

    • @VinceLocRS
      @VinceLocRS Год назад

      Quebec had people of color who became superstars since at least the 40s-50s lol One good exemple was Jackie Robinson before he went for the LA Dodgers and became the 2nd black man to play in MLB. Willie O'Ree who played in Québec city in the 50s and end up the first black man to play in the NHL with the Boston Bruins.

    • @VinceLocRS
      @VinceLocRS Год назад

      Also, let's not forget about Herbert Carnegie who technically should've have been the first Black man to play in the NHL since he was invited by the New York Rangers in 1948. (10 years before Willie O'ree) but decline the offer since he was earning more money playing in Québec plus he was not victims of racisms. Just because of that he spend his whole career playing in Québec League.

    • @VinceLocRS
      @VinceLocRS Год назад

      @@sadassadas8946 Oh for sure, Subban will be remember for a longtime in Montréal. But when we talk about longterm influence... I doubt cuz the new generation tend to not dig into their local history.
      For exemple, all the people I named...Their local legacy have been lost by the new generation for a long time. As a society, Québec young generation should dig into it... In a time where the skin Color was a major issue accross North America... Here in Québec it was just a skin pigment and were seen equal to us french-Canadians... This is someting to be celebrating...
      But people tend to forget and instead of digging into the history of where they live, people will generalizes their story with others story and forget each community have his own story and it deserves to be known by the new generation.

    • @Amm17ar
      @Amm17ar Год назад

      @@VinceLocRS I have a bit of a different outlook on racism in Quebec. Its not exactly been "Just a skin pigment". Quebec has bans on headscarfs for public servents which was passed and still remains a law since 2019. Quebec has a REALLY long way to go. You referenced Jackie Robinson......and glossed over the fact that he was sent to Montreal to play specifically to see if he could handle the racism that was dished out on a bigger stage..... I think youre mistaking these leaps by people of colour joining and playing in Montreal as because they played there, everything is okay.....it wasnt and still isnt. We as a country have taken a lot of steps forward since then for sure, but its far from perfect still.....
      I dont mean to turn any of this political, nor take this post away from the spotlight of PK, but I think its extremely important to understand, Quebec has a lot of work to do. Racism is just a differentiation between skin pigments. There will be a influx of all kids growing up who will pursue hockey as a sport because of PK. And those kids might go on to inspire others until its not a surprise to see a brown, asian, hispanic or any other race, playing at a high level in the NHL. You dont always have to remember the spark when the light generated from that spark continues to shine and light up brighter and brighter. Its nice to remember the sparks, but its also important to learn and keep growing. Just in 2014 Boston fans took to twitter and the N-word was trending in the Boston area after PK scored a goal. Even Montreal fans have resorted to racism regarding their own player when he didnt perform.....Theres a lot of work to do. Thankfully PK was extremely impactful and hopefully helps spark future growth and change in Quebec, Montreal and Canada.
      Again, apologies for taking away from the post and though I do agree with your underlying statement of remembering the heros of the past, its also important to stay grounded in the reality of the current world we live in. Its not all sunshines and rainbows. I think youre painting a bit of a happier picture than reality would suggest with all due respect. It wasn't perfect in the past, it wasnt when PK was playing and it isnt now.

      The way PK ended with Habs is sad, I used to love this player but the 2 last years were not great. PK was sticking on his game instead of going with the game plan from the coach, relation was bad and the captain Max Pacioretty was acting with no leadership, it was for sure a future fail for the team. Instead of adapting his game to the situation PK decided to stick to the way he use to play all the time and it was the end for sure because by doing this you become a selfish player and teammates hate that, then all the game suffer. I am not telling PK was fully responsible of this, this guy was ahead of new style and rest of the team was not ready for that. Whatever PK did outside of the game was simply great and I have a big admiration for that despite the fact I use to disagree with his behavior on the ice for at leas the last year with Habs.
