I just watched a Mark Felton episode on grenades and learned that what my dad used to tell me were mortar bombers in the 1/32 Japanese Infantry were actually grenade launchers with the soldier kneeling. I can't remember if they also featured in the HO size. 50 years later still learning something !
That weapon was the infamous 'Thigh Mortar', as it was named by US troops. The ground plate is curved, and American soldiers thought that it was so you could fire it resting on your thigh. The launch kick said otherwise. Many shattered femurs later, it was ruled a dangerous weapon, and not to be used. Possibly not as dangerous as the horrid Nambu type 94 automatic pistol, which had a habit of going off if slightly nudged. Lovely.
WOW!! Looks like you're planning to recreate my summer holidays from mid 70s when me and a friend would combine our soldiers and have massive battles in my back garden. For years after my Dad kept finding lost soldiers 😅 Happy days. Keep filming 🎥
I bought about 2000 soldiers on Ebay about 20 years ago. It was a spending spree. I have painted some myself, and there were a few painted by their previous owners. The Italian soldiers were the most difficult to find in good shape (and most expensive).
This American viewer is jealous. That's very impressive. I remember counting all my soldiers and vehicles but i dont recall the total. 60 years melt away when i watch your videos
@@toysoldiernostalgia yes, I had both sizes also. The European soldiers were available in1/72 only and I wanted many of them. Happy hours in a dirt pile!
@@ropeburnsrussell well I’m 57 years old and only just started to collect them again. I’ve got four boxes already. I’ve got pretty lucky off eBay going back to my childhood memories. Absolutely fantastic.
Do you ever do conversions with your 1/72 Airfix? The Robin Hood set is the most versatile set in history. Ive made Ancient Babylonian Archers, Persian slingers, Ancient and medieval artillery crew, staff slingers, pikemen, and on and on. Wonderful set for wargamers like myself.Head swaps are so easy with soft Airfix plastic. Cheers
That’s an impressive army. I wish i kept my airfix soldiers from toys r us but I’ve still got two big louis marx germans and most of my revell and tamiya tanks
Heck yeah now thats every kids dream seeing a layout of soldiers that size! I can't wait to see this big outside diorama of toy soldiers. Can I come over and play too? We had an old unused and very washed out dirt road behind my Grandmas house and man did we have an absolute blast playing with our toy soldiers back there. We could leave'em out there so in time all my cousins stuff was out there too. We had mega battles during the holidays when all us kids got together.
How sweet. Grand stuff. I haven't done an exercise like this since I was 9 years old. There was always some other kid who had more than everyone else. It looks like you are well on the way to being that kid.
@@toysoldiernostalgia I agree with you. A lot of my collection consists of kits and figures I didn't get the chance to own when I was a child. The excitement of finding that missing item can feel wonderful. And finding something you didn't even know existed is even better. Very best of luck to you in finding and owning these things.
It would be pretty cool if a company could release a set of giant figures ( 12" statues ) from this Airfix 70's range. One from each box, of the classic poses from all the entire range.
I was really hoping you’d do something like this, put all your Airfix 1/32 on display for inspection. Turns out you’ve assembled a large force, probably the size of a battalion battlegroup! Thank you.
Yes this is my dream too 😳😀 I never bought any of my Airfix 1/32 scale WW2 soldiers on Ebay or wherever, just the original standard Airfix boxes. In total I guess about 420 figures, only missing the Italian Infantry set I never had.
Those little fellas are great ...... I found Airfix German soldiers about 1979 or so ........ they became the enemies for my Tim Mee Vietnam era soldiers ...... lost both of em years ago ....... I've been rebuilding my collection ( Victory Buy , Classic Toy Soldiers, Hobby Bunker , Ebay ) ...... I would like to see Airfix and Matchbox re-release ALL the sets in plastic like the ORIGINAL ......
I’ve been very lucky on eBay lately picked up some real bargains adding to my collection unfortunately this could be an expensive hobby but so much satisfaction looking at the figures admiring the artwork personally I don’t paint my figures
That's really impressive. I have lots of model kits but only a box of each of reissued 14 piece British paras, German Afrika korps, and rereleased Matchbox German infantry by Revel. That's it. I do have some 1/35 model figures unbuilt. That's a super collection you have there.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️

Wow thats some collection. I only had the smaller scale ones as it seemed better value buying them as you got more in a box for your money.

But get some more 👍
