By far one of the greatest Country music singers of all time. Been listening to Dwight since his first album.
Dwight is always been one of my favorites and still is.
Mine too
Dwight is always a great interview, so informative and well spoken.
Dwight is really one of the very best crossover country and rock artists ever. Love his music! 👍👍👍👍👍
Man, Dwight made some GREAT music! One of my all time favorite.
Watching him get misty talking about his childhood and going home to Kentucky. He’s one of the good ones.
Dwight is a legend! I think my favorite song of his is "1000 miles from nowhere."
Red Rock West 🤘
That’s a super good song from end to end.
I saw him play in London September 1992 supported by the Jayhawks... a great showman as well as singer & player along with Pete Anderson. Kicked it of with, "Turn it on, turn it up and turn me loose" and followed with an amazing set. A real country superstar
I love Dwight the actor just as much as Dwight the musician.
I was a huge fan of Dwight years before I saw Sling Blade. His dynamic performance made me question him versus Doyle. He’s that great! I still love him!
Watching Dwight and LISTENING actually listening to him ...My heart felt pure tenderness and passion from him 🙏 You're amazing Dwight Yoakam🥰
Dwight is a real artist, he always has been. Real artists always draw fans from all genres of music because they do something out of the ordinary. Dwight's songs the have lyrical complexity that's been missing in Nashville country since the late 60s. Dwight makes music for grown-ups. I love the guy, to me he's right there with Buck, Rodger Miller, Glen Campbell, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Ray Price, Merle Haggard etc etc. He's top shelf.
Incredible singer. Incredible actor
Yes! He has truly shown what a great all around artist he is!
I have been a fan of Dwight Yoakam from the beginning. He is still a favorite of mine. ❤
Dwight, you rock singing songs and acting and I HOPE you accept more acting gigs! Your respect of and knowledge of the history of music...priceless!
My dad always loved dwight and I never knew why but now I no, Dwight is a humble gentle soul and you got to love him for that. There will never be another guitars and cadillacs and hillbilly music. Love you brother😊
So well said.. and there isnt anyone else like him. ❤ And why are a few people giving Dan Rather a hard time ?!! Jeez...
I'm not a country music fan, more a rock guy, but Dwight Yoakam is the real deal.
What country are you from? Not to be disrespectful. White Cadillac is great
@@tomtheplummer7322 I live about 100 miles from Nashville but what does that have to do with anything? I just don't like country. I like metal and grunge. I would think that me acknowledging that Yoakam is a badass who makes great music that transcends genres would be a compliment. But no, you have to take it some other way.
@@pf100andahalf who are you trying to appeal to?😂
@@eternallife9786 I'm saying Yoakam is a badass that transcends genres. End of story. Not sure why people are making it out to be something else.
@@pf100andahalf no we pretty much see it for what it is Guy, some weird sort of virtue signal how you prefer Rock and metal but insert country artist and how they really trancend
Been a fan since the 80's. Still one of the best there is.
This one knocked the world on its ass. Such a great song.
I have always loved Dwight's music from the first note . Grew up listening to Buck Owens so I think that is what really attracted me to Dwight's sound. Pete Anderson's guitar playing also redefined the way I played country guitar .
I love when he plays country guys - Sling Blade is one of my favorite performances ever - but he is also good in most movies he plays in.
Awesome, vital history of American music. Thanks Dwight and thanks Dan!!
He is one of those guys you could sit and listen to for hrs. talk about the good ole days......and I'm 69.
Absolutely love Dwight Yoakam & so many of his songs but listen to Two Doors Down & see his talent shine.
I drank a “few” beers in the 90’s to Dwight’s music…..those were the good old country music days…
I loved Dwight Yoakam in the movie "The Wedding Chasers." He's also an awesome artist. 😊
Dan Rather is such a class act interviewer and Dwight is THE KING
Dwight is just awesome.
i have always heard that the majority of Dwights fan base are not actually normal country fans, but more fans of roots rock and that totally makes sense. there were a lot of cool things going on in the 80s that most people were not aware of, Cowpunk and The Paisley Underground are just a few of them. and spectacular bands like the Blasters that never really broke through.
Love 💕 Dwight his music 🎶 is great, what I like is how he puts his own spin on different songs. Great musician.🇨🇦
Great singer and musician, and a pretty good actor too.
I just listened to 1000 miles a few nights ago and posted a screenshot from the video on IG Such a good tune!!
He’s got a song called A Thousand miles (“Hillbilly Deluxe” album), and a thousand miles from nowhere (on the album titled “This Time”. Two different songs.
Saw him at the Ohio State Fair in 1988. His repartee with the crowd was unlike anything I'd ever witnessed before, or since! I've always wished I could remember more details about it, but I'm positive I was completely impressed!!
Love, love, love me some Dwight. He can lay it down.
I got to see Dwight a few week back so glad I did.
Is this a recent interview? Dan Rather looks amazing if it is. I come from his hometown I'm Wharton TX....I knew he had a podcast....but I did not realize it was still going on, if so I'm going to have to check it out.
I love Dwight
I adore this man!! 💝
Population Me is an incredible and underrated album
Don’t forget about Poco
👍🏼
And the Souther, Hillman, Furay Band.
Under The Dome brought me here.....really scary on it but his singing reminded me of who he is.....
He knows his music history…
Love our cowboys. 🙏🏻😎🇺🇸💪👍🏻
Dwight is bad ass
Dwight, if you read this... you NEED to be a part of the Palomino Club Documentary !
I know Dwight more as an actor. His portrayal of Doyle Hargraves in Slingblade was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.
Ohhhp, i forgot AXS tv! Probably some others, too, who deserve thanks 😉
Followed Dwight for ever and got the chance to fly from New Zealand just to see him at the Wynn in Vegas February 2020 4th row!
Wow bucket list so cool!!
Dwight Yoakum = the REAL deal. 👍
'Nuff said. 😉
@Del Noah Why, you shut yo' pie hole lest I get my Ol' Hickory off the wall and teach you the meaning of "respect," youngin'! 😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬
I'll always reject the notion of "Okie" being written as tongue in cheek. Listen to Merle talk about the song in the live recording from 1969 in Muskogee. I know that's what he said later in life, when pressed by Dan. Maybe he didn't like what it became to some, but he wrote that song like he wrote all the others: from his heart. But, old Dan was happy to hear Dwight say that...
He starts discussing the song @ 7:48
There ain't no glamour in this tinseled land of lost and wasted lives - 1986
Bakersfield baby
Can't stand Dan Rather, but love Dwight Yoakam.
Not sure if he ever played with Tom Petty. I could boot scoot to that 💪🇺🇸
Good interview considering we aint got no fuc*ing microphones 😅😂
Guitars and Cadillac's ........and lawnmower blades.
Sam Outlaw LA Country next generation
This song is just 2 chords and the truth.
What’s going on in the background ? Is the van moving ?
I can't figure it out either.
Dude. I’ve been wondering about this since I first saw this interview. It’s bizarre.
@@hwwalters no indication of movement when they show the single shot view of Dan. Bizzare
Country & Western and the Western is the Western Swing that came out of Bakersfield. Period the end....
“I've killed Doyle Hargraves with a lawn mower blade. Yes, I'm right sure of it. I hit him two good whacks in the head with it. That second one just plum near cut his head in two.” - Karl Childers (Sling Blade)
how much hair does he have under that cowboy hat?
Pastor Phil!!!! 😃
Dwight left out Rick Nelson. He was one of the originators of "Country Rick'!!!
Martinez Karen Perez John Walker Matthew
You can always count on Dan Rather to ruin an interview just by showing up.
😂😂😂. Good one
I thought he got killed in Sling blade...🤔
RV bus interviews make people look really small. They look like 4 foot tall.
Kids today are clueless
Wenche. Yoakam. Lover. His. New. Wife. From. Norway. On. Facebook. And. Pinterest. Dwight's. Pics. She. Has. No proof. He. Married. Her.
Deewhite.
Does he talk at all about how gross his hygiene is? Or how he screws other bands at locations cause his ego is SO FREAKIN HUGE. Didn’t 5hink so.
Is that Lyin’ Dan Rather ?
Why doesn't Dwight Yoakum have a show about music history?
Pete Anderson on guitar was a monster player! Killin on that Esquire
I’m a blues guy, but I’ve been a Dwight Yoakam fan since the 90’s. He’s got a unique sound and is the real deal. His performance in the movie Sling Blade was legendary.
Im a Blues guy too and I visited my cousin in Colombus and he introduced him to me. Dwight was the most humble non-racist man in his entire neighborhood. His mother used to warn us who the racist were in the area since we were from another county. She had the most amazing laugh. Dwight is the real deal and he is a wonderful guy
I was a fan 1986! His first album! I was an alt/rock/bluegrass fan and I found him and he was the epitome of country to me! I would walk through by school halls and belt out his songs! I love him now as much as ever! I’ve seen him in concert twice and he never disappoints. He’s the real deal country star!!! ❤
Dwight Yoakam remained focused on his music and acting and didn't let the pitfalls of fame distract him from that. Subsequently, he has a terrific expansive body of work and still has his health. Rick James expressed regret that he didn't produce enough music because he was derailed by drugs and sex and it destroyed his health too.
He's right... Chris Hillman does not get the recognition he deserves.
I'm not a country music fan but love Dwight Yoakam's song A Thousand Miles From Nowhere which I first heard in the movie Red Rock West.
Not a huge country fan, but Dwight Yoakam has always been one of my favorites. Legend.
I love his Under the Covers album! Most songs remind me of my SoCal upbringing..
I used to work for him. He's a really good guy!
That's awesome! How did you work for him? I'm curious.

Lucky you Melanie!! Very cool I would love to meet him . I've been a fan since 1993 & only recently started following concert videos here on you tube. It's great to read comments from all his fans,& watch /listen to him perform ❤❤
Mee too !
This was very informative. All these years of wondering how the heck the Bakersfield sound came to be, the migrants from Oklahoma during the dustbowl never even crossed my mind. It really explains why Merle called himself an Okie from Muskogee even though he was born in California.
@Figment of my own Imagination "Haggard told The Boot that he wrote the song after he became disheartened watching Vietnam War protests and incorporated that emotion and viewpoint into song. Haggard says, "When I was in prison, I knew what it was like to have freedom taken away. Freedom is everything. During Vietnam, there were all kinds of protests. Here were these [servicemen] going over there and dying for a cause-we don't even know what it was really all about. And here are these young kids, that were free, bitching about it. There's something wrong with that and with [disparaging] those poor guys." He states that he wrote the song to support the troops. "We were in a wonderful time in America, and music was in a wonderful place. America was at its peak, and what the hell did these kids have to complain about? These soldiers were giving up their freedom and lives to make sure others could stay free. I wrote the song to support those soldiers."
My father-in-law was Merle neighbor when they were kids. Oildale California.
I already adored Dwight for not only his music, but for being a thoughtful, intelligent and articulate guy, but having him teach me a lesson on punk rock history and the origins of the country-punk crossover movement, now I'm downright in love with the man!
Hell yeah, me too!
Dwight and others during the 80’s early 90’s made country music something I would enjoy listening too. The older country music had its time and place but that era was getting dragged around and beaten up for every penny it could squeeze out. It’s time had come.
Now country music has turned into absolute 💩. Every singer sounds the same and the songs are horribly boring.
That’s Dwight for giving us something fun to listen to.
Far and away my favorite country Western singer. Iconic, talented man. Seems like a good guy when the cameras are off, as well.
If Dwight Yoakam "exploded on the scene" after nine years, then I guess you could say he had a "slow burning fuse"!😊 He's definitely got that, "something special" that makes s super star. His music transcends several genres of music from rock, pop and country which some from every generation can appreciate and enjoy. His acting credits are a bonus, he's quite convincing. He gives a good open and honest interview of who he is and where he's been in his rise to his "15 minutes of fame! "
I absolutely love that punk rock is what he considers a part of what he does. I’m biased because I’m a punk rocker that absolutely loves country, swing, bluegrass and honkey tonk music. Cow punk, honkey punk, call it whatever you want but it’s just great.
I’ve seen Dwight Yoakam live 5 times so far, he is one of my all time favorite artists. Dwight is an artist, a trailblazer and a phenom in every sense of each of those words. I was raised on rock and roll, as a lot of his fans were, and that’s part of what makes his legacy so incredible and amazing, is that he developed a crossover audience early on in his career because he was playing at punk rock clubs. People realized that this guy is not only something else, he’s something AWESOME. He has such a great fan base because we love REAL MUSIC and talent, and Dwight Yoakam is a goddamn magnet for that. Long live the Bakersfield Sound, and long live Dwight Yoakam! Can’t wait to see him live again for the sixth time!!
Coolest guy in North America. Nobody even close.
Saw Dwight live.. He's is multi dimensional in his style like the late Glen Campbell.
I love his voice and the music always moves me
I live in Ohio, and my Grandmother always referred to going to Kentucky as going "down home", where she was raised...
Dwight is a fabulous talent. I've seen him live twice. I'd have added Gram Parsons to the history of the sound (Sweetheart of the Rodeo with the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers with Chris Hillman).
1,000 Miles from Nowhere is a masterpiece. One of my favorite songs of all time. Great video, too. Wow, Dwight is so talented and introspective. He's an awesome actor, too. I loved his performance in Goliath.
You can tell he's passionate about California country.
In Boston we had a cowpunk band, Rubber Rodeo.
and they had to fight the record label to get 'Hillbilly' on the jacket. The label hated it, DY and the band were adamant, good thing too.
I'm 52 and grew up in Fowler, Ca just south of Fresno, Ca picking those same fields in the late 70's and early 80's.....wow....what a way to grow up.....not sure if it was a good thing....
couples only couples only lol love this dude! His greatest hits play in my Cadillac to this day. Good shit man!
