Same here... Same here....and same age ... i know why i have a lisp is because my teeth are like f@@@cked up and the s sound is projecting out through the side which means a lateral lisp.... I need braces
Is it normal for the sides of the tongue to press into the sides of the upper teeth to the point that marks are formed when making the s sound? I’m trying to fix my speech and would like to avoid shifting my teeth through improper tongue placement. Can you further explain this? When I curl my tongue to form a “wind tunnel” it slightly touches my front pre-molars. Is that okay? I also normally slightly move my tongue to the right when making the s sound.... yet another mistake that I must correct. Any tips of visualization to center my tongue position?
I'm so sorry that it's taken me 2 years to see this, but no: if marks are formed, that means there is too much pressure, that may cause you discomfort, and not really improving airflow? I hope you have made progress since then, and wish you the best ✨
The three different types of lisps you show us at the beginning of the video, I notice that I fit the second/middle (the strident lisp). I had a teacher in middle school that I practiced correct speech and specifically the lips sound with but it seems to not have helped me. Going to practice with you! Thanks for sharing this informative and helpful video.
hey, i have a dentalized lisp and i still don’t know how to fix it i’ve heard it’s not that noticeable but some other people say it’s annoying so what are easy ways to fix it if there are any. also my mom says to get a song crib but i’m afraid it’ll sound even more dumb untill it’s fixed so any more info on those two things would be great!

no like i can say s but it’s really inconsistent, some days i’ll say it just fine but most days it’s a habit where i stick my tongue out and to me it’s a lot faster than to just close my teeth
age: 24. i have the most common type of lisp (interdental) i want to say "used to" because i think and believe that i already fixed it but i felt like it won't be perfectly gone until my teeth get aligned with braces (currently open bite) so even if i am pronouncing "s" correctly, it still appear as if i have lisp because my tounge would still show given the gap between my lower and upper front teeth. also, like everyone else i never realized it until i watch a recorded video of myself. never noticed it even when practicing in front of the mirror. i was also easily understood when i deliver messages but the fact that my lisp shows in videos honestly affects my self-esteem. i hate it when my friends record videos of us, i cant help but feel awkward. it''s also hard for me when work demands videos given our wfh setup, even had a time when i dont want to speak to people anymore as i feel like they would see noting but the way i pronounce "s". want to pursue a career that requires interaction with talents. i have no problems with my verbal skills, but i feel like having this lisp affects the way i sound. /sighs;
I can feel your frustration, and I'm sorry it's affecting your self-esteem. Just based on your description of your teeth, you may still be able to make minor adjustments, such that your tongue does not go beyond "the cage" of your teeth, even if your mouth is slightly ajar. I'm trying a different position: slightly more curled tongue-tip, so that the sides of the tip are forming a smaller tunnel for the air to flow through the middle. (That might be hard to imagine, but I hope it gets you experimenting on your tongue positions more). Also -- we are all so much more than our speech production. ✨ It's tough, especially when we sometimes feel bad about things that we wish were different, but you sound like a person of so much self-awareness, honesty, and determination, and those are so much more important than a crisp /s/ 😉 Good luck, and I hope you don't give up!
Hi Mart! It would be better to get an assessment where I can see you, because I'd have to check if you have any anotomical issues causing your lisp (like shape and size of your tongue, or your jaw area). Usually, if there are no physical issues, a lateral lisp really needs a lot of practice directing your air forward instead of to the side. Have you tried practicing with the straw like I suggested? If you'd like to consult with me, you can set an appointment on my Facebook page: facebook.com/teacherkayetalks/ I'd love to help you, and it may only take a session and some offline practice on your end. It makes me worry a lot about my lisp now that I'm moving up as a senior highschool student and it's really hard for me to prounce "s" though its not that worse but sometimes my tongue feels heavy when I'm pronouncing it
Hello! I have a dentalized lisp and I didn’t notice it until I started recording videos of myself doing it. What’s really weird is that it gets worse when ice touches my tongue. I’ve tried everything you’ve mentioned and it still doesn’t work. I have no way of messaging you on any social media so I was wondering if you have any tips for me? I’m really insecure about it lol, btw I also have braces so would that effect it in any way?
Hello HoranDog! It's difficult to give you advice without seeing you, because most of the tips here are for very general descriptions of the problem. So if these techniques did not work, then likely the cause of your lisp may be something I didn't cover. If you could send me links to the videos you've recorded of yourself, I may have a better impression of the problem. Some things to consider: - like I said in the video, it may be a structural issue. Yes, braces may affect this if you have elastics that get in the way of your tongue's movement. Gap teeth may also cause "whistling" sounds. - when anything cold touches our skin, our vessels constrict and our muscles become less pliant. This may effect mobility, range of motion, and control of your tongue, if your tongue has any weakness of sorts. - dentalized lisps are usually problems with tongue placement and/or pressure applied on the ridge, thus causing the air to escape in the wrong places. Could you try finding different parts of your ridge to put your tongue again (you said you've tried this), but this time, make a "T" / "tuh" sound, then from that same placement, make the sound effect of like a deflating tire (tsssss). It's a helpful transition sounds. It'd really be better if I had more detail. I'm not sure if you meant you have no social media accounts (because I do: they're @teacherkayetalks on both Facebook and Instagram) -- you may send videos there too. I may be able to give more specific advice. Hope this helps! ✨

Excellent video. But I have one question about how many Gen z'ers pronounce words like: didn't or couldn't. They seem to come out like: "I dinnent" or "I connent." Another pronunciation I don't understand is instead of important, it comes out "impornnant" I 've been a voice actor for five decades and none of my producers have ever suggested I eliminate the "T" sound in any of my words. What's up with no "T" sound in young people's words?🤔
Thank you! Regarding these examples you gave above, I don't think it's a generation thing, because it isn't common in our culture, where English is a dominant 2nd language. Instead, I believe it could be a affected by cultural and regional accents in the US? For example, the way I said these words in my head (based on how you spelled them) remind me of accents found in the South. From a Speech-Language Pathologist perspective, it could also be a Phonological Process -- a simplification of certain words -- and in this case, it drops certain consonants to blend a succeeding consonant, like a co-assimilation. Hello! I have another video for producing the /s/ here: ruclips.net/video/rotbw6YL9vw/видео.html Also, it's possible that instead of being a motor difficulty (not assuming the right position), it's a Phonological problem (the child is not very aware of when the /s/ is required in a word). Hi Areeba, have you tried these tips? I have another video on producing the /s/ here: ruclips.net/video/rotbw6YL9vw/видео.html If these don't work, I hope you can ask your grown-ups to see a Speech Therapist, who can figure out what is causing the difficulty and give you further instruction ✨
Hi! I don't have a lot of experience with it, but I do know the possible causes and how to theoretically correct it. Does this happen for all your /s/ sounds, whether producing the sound by itself, or in syllables, words, or connected speech? What about your /z/ sounds? How can I help you? Would you like to schedule a consult?
Hello! Do you mean that even at rest, your tongue spills out of your cage (teeth) when closed? If so, it seems that anatomically your tongue is larger for your oral cavity, and there are no corrective treatments for that. So I suggest we find you a compensatory technique to find the best alternative placement to help you produce the sounds better. Let me know if you want a consultation with me. ✨
Any tips po?
Hi (Nilagang Patatas - yum!) Yes, sa taas talaga, and kung sa baba talaga yung habitual oral placement mo, that explains the lisp! It will really take lots of speech drills, and if hindi mo napapansin, someone to help you monitor, para the muscle memory will re-adjust. I made another /s/ video here: /s/ ruclips.net/video/rotbw6YL9vw/видео.html Kung masubukan mo na lahat ng tips ko, and you think nothing is stil working, I will really need to assess you personally to understand why. Hi Maam , Paano po talaga ,hirap talaga ako S at Z ,since bata pa ako , Maliit ba talaga Dila ko o di ko lang talaga alam paano ipronounce😔 ,nong bata ako lagi Bully tinatawanan pag Nagbabasa ako at Pag Nag sasabi ako Pangalan ko Inulit ulit pa nila tanongin sa May Z pelyido ko, gang ngayon dpa rin talaga kaya ,always ako nagtatry ,wla parin , buti naiintindihan ako ng Asawa ko , 😥
Hi, I am Devon. I’m 21 years old & I am trying to correct my speech impediment. I would like to have a consultation with you please let me know how I can reach out! Thank you.
You will have to be aware that the /s/ happens in both the first and last parts of the word, so whatever the position you practice here, you have to do it twice in a word! That won't be easy for something trying to un/learn their /s/, but YOU CAN DO IT ✨
As a person who wanted a career in voice actor.. I beat the lisp when I pretend to be my elders.. I took their cadence the lisp dropped. Those that know me see an improve. It's difficult to give you advice without seeing you, because most of the tips here are for very general descriptions of the problem. So if these techniques did not work, then likely the cause of your lisp may be something I didn't cover.

Does this happen for all your /s/ sounds, whether producing the sound by itself, or in syllables, words, or connected speech? What about your /z/ sounds?
How can I help you? Would you like to schedule a consult?
@@TeacherKayeTalks Hi maam, I saw your channel's description... May office po ba kayo sa Manila?
Hi mam what if hirap mg salita NG letter s .my solution Po ba maging normal? O need operation para maging uki?
Ako na 23 years old na labas parin dila pag sasabihin may s word
my tongue doesnt fit behind my teeth how do i fix that
@@TeacherKayeTalks Simliar to what you said but when i talk it doesnt fit behind my teeth
Any tips po?
Hi (Nilagang Patatas - yum!)
Yes, sa taas talaga, and kung sa baba talaga yung habitual oral placement mo, that explains the lisp! It will really take lots of speech drills, and if hindi mo napapansin, someone to help you monitor, para the muscle memory will re-adjust.
I made another /s/ video here:
/s/ ruclips.net/video/rotbw6YL9vw/видео.html
Kung masubukan mo na lahat ng tips ko, and you think nothing is stil working, I will really need to assess you personally to understand why.
Hope this helps!
hahahaha for the bloopers after the video.. God bless you po..

Hi, I am Devon. I’m 21 years old & I am trying to correct my speech impediment. I would like to have a consultation with you please let me know how I can reach out! Thank you.
I'm sorry I missed your message for 2 years Devon, but if you are still having difficulties, please message me on my Facebook page @TeacherKayeTalks ✨
Can you give me some tips to pronounce the number "6"
You will have to be aware that the /s/ happens in both the first and last parts of the word, so whatever the position you practice here, you have to do it twice in a word! That won't be easy for something trying to un/learn their /s/, but YOU CAN DO IT ✨
As a person who wanted a career in voice actor.. I beat the lisp when I pretend to be my elders.. I took their cadence the lisp dropped. Those that know me see an improve. So I beat the lisp when I pretend to be someone I'm not.. By the way I use British English because I grew up England as a black person
Wow, this is SO interesting, and would love to share this tidbit with others who may also benefit from this psychological technique! ✨ Thank you for sharing!
Me with fat tongue and a small overbite:🥲
