How To Upgrade To G3S Top Board with Joey Landreth

Joey Landreth was in town and wanted a G3S Top Board upgrade for his rig.
Its super simple
1. Undo the 12 hex screws around the top edge of G3
2. Loosen the 4 hex screws along the bottom front edge
3. Undo the ribbon cable and remove top board
4. Insert one end of the ribbon cable into the new G3S motherboard and attach cable clip
5. Insert the other end of the ribbon cable into g£ mother board and attach cable clip
6. Attach new top board to G3 metalwork with hex screws
7. Turn on power
8. In the menu go to Global Settings/Version
9. Exit the menu and your screens will light up

Daniel you’re absolutely correct about turning the screw backwards just a little bit until you feel it click into the thread groove. I’ve been doing that for years and you have no idea how many times people have looked at me and said “hey you’re turning it the wrong way” 😂

I was honestly just the tiniest little bit bummed out when I saw the new G3, since I just bought mine about a year or so ago, but this is way cool and I'm totally gonna do it when I get the extra cash!
Ok, this has to be one of the coolest things I've seen in a while! This is why the Gigrig is one of the best companies in the world! Love the fact that you made it a drop in replacement for older G3 units. This makes me so happy, haha!

I really hope that there's gonna be a really small G3 version at some point. Like one that's only a bit bigger than the Quartermaster 6. Maybe with the same features except for stereo loops, to safe space or something. Since I always use really really compact boards, the QMX6 is all I can use at the moment, but man I'd love a G3.
That split status bar mode is really clever. Kudos! I was wondering about this drawback to the board layout.

I probably would put the bank up and down on the far left so even without labels you just know what they do. I can't remember if the G3 has a preset mode as well as stomp mode.

A video on how to reboot your G3S when it locks up during an update would be appreciated. Including the process procedure within the menu drop-down list. It's frustrating when there isn't any material available showing you the process. First impressions. 😢

In the menu/globals/bank settings. Here you can assign a bank up/down button to any footswitch 🤓👍
