The moment the Clans understood that the Inner Sphere would fight to the last. The moment they didn't quite lose the Invasion, but gave the Sphere time to win.

    • @swordmonkey6635

The Clans lost as soon as they decided to "race" to Terra instead of invading as a coordinated force of overlapping cover and assistance. The internal rivalry that had been a part of the Clans for centuries needed to be dropped as soon as the invasion was planned. The rivalries were designed to keep the Clans sharp during their time of isolation. Batchalls and bidding away assets was a way to keep the destruction of the rivalries to a minimum during their isolation. The Clans assuming that the Inner Sphere would fight on their terms was what killed the invasion. The shock and rage it caused distracted clan warriors from fighting at their best and eventually, getting suckered into the Tukkyid trial.

Warships had been growing in size and power in the Inner Sphere up to the point of the first Succession War, as the tech was known , the infrastructure in place and the setting understood that both ships and mechs had roles to play in warfare.
Then they decided to bomb all that and give every house a combined case of stupidity.
Are Warships hard to make? Most certainly, but that goes for every space faring society, do they have the technology? Difficult to say, but technically they can recreate it, more importantly do they have the money and will? Absolutely.
Even the poorest of the Succession states has ridiculous amounts of money and they are warmongering people by nature, so of course they would want Warships.
Recreating the Infrastructure may not be easy, but all of them have relatively easy access to space, space resources and vast industrial power.
More than that, Warships represent a lot of things, force projection, defensive capability, interdiction, deterrent and so much more, they more than pay for themselves in many ways.

The game is over balance in favor of Mechs (they are the stars of the show) but this does not mean that they are useless, and game mechanics, vs a more real time mechanics tends to showcase the strengths and weaknesses of each unit.
Mechs are big, heavy and powerful, they are siege rams, siege breakers and true destroyers, but they are still slow compared to aircraft, who while weaker, are faster and can carry very specialized weapons and equipment against mechs.
Mech units would need to keep at least one dedicated anti-aircraft mech to be useful otherwise they will soon be destroyed by units they may not even be able to target.
But if a mech scores a hit on a fighter, that fighter is almost certainly gone and that capability is lost.
Each unit has its strengths and weaknesses after all.

    • @BabyJaguar28

@@Keemperor40K have you read the Strategic Operations rulebook?
Mechs in space get their movement reduced to almost nothing, have to add a +4 modifier to all their attacks (they’re considered long range no matter what) and can only attack targets in the same hex as them (whereas aerospace fighters have all sorts of multi hex ranges in space.)
Also, if a mech moves on the hull of a ship, it needs to make a PSR roll or fall of the ship into the void of space. The unit its on changes direction? Another PSR roll for falling off the hull.
What happens when the mech falls of the hull I hear you ask? Great question. If it has no jump jets it’s immediately removed from the match. And even if it has jump jets, their thrust rating is only equivalent to their jump MP divided by 3. Which is absolutely pathetic compared to the movement of the fighters.
Oh, and any thrust spent by a mech is another automatic PSR roll with a +2 modifier that, if it fails, will send the mech spinning out of control.
Let’s face it, the rules are explicitly designed to make mechs virtually worthless in space, and you stating random lore and fluff doesn’t change that.

In Space its space or aero-space fighters and ships, mechs are just token for the sake o using them and because as I said they do work as point defense.
The ground game is where mechs are over emphasized and the tables are sort of turned so that Mechs can deal with aircraft (realistically they shouldn't but that's a different topic).

@@alexanderewing6312 I still have not played. I am waiting for the handful of critics I trust. The gameplay looks good but the story and character writing seem…… off. Yes Clanners step up young but this looks like all high school students. It’s like an anime where everyone is always 15 for some reason. IRL most combat aviators are in their late 20’s before they are even considered combat ready much less top of the class. True, piloting a mech is not aviating. After twenty years in aviation I can tell you it does not favor the young.

@@mikewaterfield3599 One of the many great features of clan society, let their leadership caste select for the brutal and bloodthirsty and let average life expectancy for said caste be in the 40's.
I'd love to see the elder Kerensky's reaction to what became of his dream.

well in the books it is written that some of the mechwarriors tend to shave parts of their head in order for the neurosensors in their neuro helmets (that are needed to actually steer a battlemech) can better focus on their neuro signals.
so it kind of makes sense.

@@joeblogs8049 Ive known the lore since the early ‘90s at least the senior ones are scarred up. Thing is the clanners were using better Nuero helms and cooling vests. A shaved head makes sense. This however is the cliche activist half shave.

Sadly the gameplay is way too arcade like and easy , the cockpits are overloaded with information you cant deactivate while ignoring the chance of making the cockpits themselves interacvtive like in Elite. No capture of destroyed Mechs from the battlefied, no research...etc. Huge flaws I am critical of ever being fixed. Right now its a 7/10 game at best but could get better ifthey work in it.

Wonder how the mechs don't overheat in vacumm. They have heat sinks but without atmosphere where the hell do they radiate off heat.
