I love Wilder Ranch. Along the coastline, the view is a 10 out of 10, and the effort required to get there from the parking lot is about a 1. MY kind of trail! One time I rode up into the hills, and while I was resting in the shade on the way back down, a bobcat came and sat in the shade with me for a while.
Glad to hear you think the same of the West end of Smith Grade as I do. Thanks for the expose of my local riding area. You started the ride less than a mile from my home.
Hi Robert, thank you. I've ridden this route in the past starting near the touristy seaside attractions, but wasn't enjoying the additional traffic, and cut it this time, as short as possible. The steep bike path is a rather rude introduction to not-so-warmed up legs!
Really nice video. It appears from your video that along the coast you are on off road trails, but in the ridewithgps map it shows you are actually riding on Highway 1 for a considerable distance, is that correct? How safe is that riding on Highway 1? - New to this game! (Due to bad knees I have an ebike do you know of any restrictions on those?
Hi Mark, I had to ride a very small part of Highway 1, which I didn't show in the video. It has a huge bike lane, I felt very safe. Unfortunately, some of the dirt trails that I would liked to have accessed are private, or currently closed to the public for restoration, etc. I spotted an e-Bike rider when I was filming, I expect there are no restrictions at this time.
you missed the best views of the coast. you could have went straight down to a eucalyptus grove with a view of the entire bay instead of going to smith grade. you missed it by only a few hundred feet.
Cool place, the Santa Cruz/Monterey area! I was just there last month and stopped at the Santa Cruz factory to see where my new Tallboy 4 was assembled. I passed Wilder Ranch too on US1. You can demo a Santa Cruz bike there at the factory-just make a reservation for the bike you want, ie. Stigmata or any Mtn bike. Do you think my new Lynskey Helix disc would be okay on those trails with a 30C tire? BTW, lots of pretty good vineyards are there-go to Hahn Vineyards, near Soledad nearby. Laguna Seca Racetrack too, where the Sea Otter is held each year!
Hello there... I attended Sea Otter, you can see some of the videos I have posted to the channel about that. You can ride those trails with 30mm tyres and some skills.
@@GravelCyclist Yes I did that race back in 2010 and loved it, traveling all the way from NY. So ideally a true gravel bike tire is best… BTW, I loved your interviews with Mark Lynskey!

@@GravelCyclist Thank you for your reply!
Will there be a video coming out soon with a review of those Boyd Jocassee wheelset?
Possibly, but the priority is the T-Lab X3.22
@@GravelCyclist sure would be nice ive looked for any review with no luck.
@@tray5765 Fingers crossed I can knock out a review soon...
having tried a lot of gravel bikes, do you prefer titanium or carbon? reasons for yiur choice?
From the looks of it he really likes titanium but for races I see him use carbon for more competitive rides.
I own bikes in Ti and Carbon, both have their place, I like both materials.

Bummer... Captain Spock, thanks for the heads up. I'll modify my route for 2023!
at least its warm..its still in the low 20's in CO..( don't live here if you like cycling year round)
