A tip for those that don't have an oil needle applicator: use a wood toothpick, dipping it into the oil will cause a little drop to stick onto the tip, the drop will come off when you press the toothpick on wherever you want the oil to be. Use the same toothpick repeatedly, the oil saturates the wood and makes the oil stick onto it easier (plastic doesn't work good, oil falls off too quickly).
For a quick easy booster in emergency fire making when camping etc. Soak a bunch of toothpicks in high proof alcohol 91% or higher. Keep it in a container suitable and small enough. They will take a spark instantly let alone flame and it burns long enough to get your small twigs going
@@tikkidaddy Damn.... great idea!!! I've been collecting the "cotton balls" that come inside of medications & supplements; soaking those in vaseline, storing them inside of medication bottles.....but yours is a killer idea too!
Lucas is the most genuine person. How you see him on this video is how he is every time I talk to him. Super down to earth guy that designs and makes beautiful knives.
Pro Tip: Foam swabs are bar none some of the most epic, amazing tools you can buy for maintaining any & all of your gear! Guns, knives; everything. Get large & small ones, and you can get into all the nooks & crannies without leaving lint / debris from paper towels, q-tips, etc. You can even swab inside the handle of a folding knife, ensure that area gets lubed & protected. Amazing little tools & so dirt cheap!
I totally agree with overtightening the pivot. I have done it myself and it is much easier to back off then to try and tighten it to where you want your knife to be.
When I got my presale Cold Steel voyager XL PE Vaquero, everybody said "Oh its not " drop shutty" ...it was all I heard "Triad sux" etc. So I shoved the pivot full of Lucas Red N Tacky #2, worked it until it felt better. Washed the grease out completely with WD40. Got all that out and then finally lubed it with SEAFOAM DEEP CREEP. On Christmas Eve 3 years ago that knife with a horrible action dropped shut slick as owl shizz on a glass door knob and hit my right index knuckle as I was closing it. I had to super glue my finger shut after pouring it full of alcohol. That knife is still right, still drops shut, still centered and its 3 feet away...looking at me funny😂😂
Honestly I refuse to disassemble my folders unless absolutely necessary. Tiny screws strip too easily, and I can never get it back to exactly three way I like it. Messed up an old (but good) Gerber, but I'll try your tips to see if it will help. Thanks again y'all.
When I reassemble a knife I always add oil, washer, then more oil. I found that this method is a lot better in aiding the braking in of a knife and smooths the flipability of the knife.
first auto knife i ever owned, my grandfather (a stereotypical "greaser") gave me a switchblade. it was a little stuck, so he actually dipped the knife in motor oil. seemed to work alright!
Using compressed air can clear dust and debris. Also, If I’m taking a knife apart for the first time, I will take a few pictures to ensure I properly orient everything upon reassembly.
I use it regularly. Blowing out my knives weekly keeps me from having to take them apart and do major cleanings. Every now and then I'll take a toothbrush and soap to my SAKs but using the compressed air regularly makes those cleanings a lot simpler and don't have to do them as often.
Another good vid . Hold cow though. How much content are you holding from Blade show and when will you make another great video with Ben. Or like the Houge video. I MISS THE PODCAST style videos you were doing.
All I gotta to is keep my joints oiled and edges keen, and my blades rust free. Maybe occasionally clean lint out of the blade channels, but that's about it. Don't gotta worry about anything else with my traditional folders.
I use a toothbrush for cleaning out the small hidden pockets on my knives. Any old toothbrush works, but a child's brush or pet toothbrush works best (slightly smaller, though you can trim any toothbrush to any size).
Bob this is a new custom model only available straight from Lucas. Think there are only 4-5 of them right now. You'd have to go to a show and win one of his lotteries for a chance at getting one.
I carry a Benchmade grizzly ridge I work on a potato farm and have a lot of trouble keeping the action smooth all the dust any advice I don't want to have to oil it every week?
When using a pencil the lead should be a high number it has the highest grade like 6 or above . The lower numbers have more clay and you would be applying an abrasive the best is a pure graphite powder ... by the way what is the brand of the screwdriver that Lucas is using
Regarding pivot adjustment, do you recommend Loctite to hold the pivot screw in the half turned loose position? My problem is that I have a Quietcarry Waypoint and I thought the blade was a little stiff. I relubricated the pivot but realized all I needed to do was just loosen the screw slightly. One strip down video suggested to use Loctite. I only used light machine oil but I’ve ordered KPL which is coming next week.
Break Free makes a slightly heavier duty version for preservation. I used to use CLP on everything. Then it got to where it was all I smelled😂 Its like Hoppes #9. People smell it and look at you like "I know what you're doing"😂
im prone2fall some people do that because the washers aren’t supposed to spin and therefore don’t spin on the scale to washer face and only blade to washer. I do it on both sides but it’s really a matter of preference. I usually can’t tell a difference
I was literally just thinking about how I should maintain my new Zero Tolerance Sinkevich flipper I bought in your store on Wednesday. I looked at my phone to unlock it, and POW! There was the notification for this video. I think we might have some sort of psychic connection goin' on here. Creepy. Thanks guys. BTW would "BATTLE BORN HP PRO lubrication and protectant" or "SLIP 2000 EWL" work for lubricating/protecting the blade steel, or does it have to be a special knife loob?
What brand of bits and drivers do you guys recommend? I used the benchmade ones in the plastic folding case and I loved it, but I’ve had it for a good amount of years and it certainly shows. Plus I’m sure that there has to be a better set to use.
Ridog_ I highly recommend getting a micro bit kit used in electronics. They are cheap, have every bit you need and can be used in other things in your life.

Depends. I like both soft and hard (wiha) depending on the situation. Some cases I don’t want to strip a screw head so I will try with a softer bit first.

Same. If it's so bad I need to take it apart I'll send it back to Benchmade. They'll disassemble, clean it, and give it a factory edge for free.
So excited for the CRKT Tuna in 2020!

I got crazy lock stick on my Spyderco pm2, I’ll go ahead and try the grafite trick on it and see if it will work

Great video - saved in my favorites. Awesome advice.
I love Balistol!!!!
Good tip for blade centering will use it on my knives
That 3 small tiny drops of oil is an excellent tip.
Lots of good info.
My preference is I like the knife to drop shut because I like to use a knife as a tool 😉

Same. A little soap on a toothbrush gets my SAKs nice and clean.
You guys should do a how to on cleaning balisongs
That's an beautiful knife that Lucas is demonstrating on. What is that?? I must have it!
That was a very good one.

That's because ballistol is thin mineral oil with a slow acting solvent. You can just use cheap baby oil if you don't want the solvent.

WIHA bits. Got some myself after killing so many generic ones and they’re well worth the money.
Depends. I like both soft and hard (wiha) depending on the situation. Some cases I don’t want to strip a screw head so I will try with a softer bit first.
