    My 2006 Honda Element has to have rear shocks\struts put on this week gonna cost over $600.00. My legs are handicapped so can't do my own work which drives me nuts because I love this kind of work. Your doing a great job, lucky daughter to have a Dad do these car repairs for her ❤️🙏👍

      Thanks, yeah I feel like a lot of shops over charge. But they also have high overhead, rent, employees, insurance and taxes. It all adds up.. Sorry brother wish I could help

    ATG suggests if you mark or scribe the bolt (16:00 before taking out the bolt), then you can put back the bolts without needing front end alignments. This will save you $125 to $175.00.

    • @MrJayDM
      @MrJayDM  4 года назад

      make since, I will have to remember that!! Thanks!! Also where do you get an alignment??? 125 to 175 is outrageous!! Most places around here charge 50 for a front and 75 for all 4

      @@MrJayDM That is the going rates in CA & northern East Coast.
      Like Costco used to install tires for $60. Now, they hit $70 only if you buy from them
      While many shops will hit you $100 of more,
      Plus your tires will get flat often because they don't replace the stems
      Or your TPMS will go bad after two set replacement.
      If they don't balanced those tires, you are going to have more front end problems.
      A nice scams that they are pulling since they are slow during COVID-19.
      It is much worst if one go to the dentist & doctors.
      Remember, they got a license & certified to charge you & can get away with it.

      That's only if those are not the stock OEM bolts. OEM bolts that are installed at the manufacturer are not adjustable camber bolts. So if you didn't install new camber adjusting bolts and used the existing bolts. There is no need to mark them or get an alignment

    Great video. Only thing I saw I was not sure about if you torqued down the control arm bolts under load or your control arm bushings will have excessive wear and go bad before their time.

      You are right I did not

    Tip: 6:00 save yourself time and aggravation and replace both sway bar links now before they go bad*. I replaced my rear ones and learned the hard way to skip the penetrating oil and fighting to unscrew that nut. Instead, just use a recip saw and cut the damn things off (since you're replacing anyway). You can thank me later.
    *When they go bad the ball and sockets inside them wear out and the increased play causes an annoying clunking noise over bumps. I think this is just annoying but not a safety issue.

    • @dan9809
      @dan9809 2 года назад

      Exactly, cut the stabilizer links off. Both styles are a PAIN in the ... to remove/Install.

  • @effortlessrob1114
    @effortlessrob1114 3 года назад

    It's not a flaw buddy it's just Honda had their own way of doing things and you have to have the right orientation on those bushings for them to work right. Now when you do have them right the car rides like a dream

    • @MrJayDM
      @MrJayDM  3 года назад

      It just seems they why it's designed it's going to wear out a lot faster then if it were a horizontal bushing

  • @jeroen7699
    @jeroen7699 4 года назад

    Be happy it's Macpherson front suspension. Double wishbone would have had two more (upper) control arms and ball joints to mess with...
    On my accord I changed the lower control arms. But I have a feeling the ball joints and uppers are next on the list.

    • @MrJayDM
      @MrJayDM  4 года назад

      I'm not really a fan of the Macpherson suspension setup. I like the old Double wishbone suspension. I think it's much more responsive and less oversteer.

    If bushings never went bad then dealerships would go broke

    • @harryl8234
      @harryl8234 2 года назад

      That's by design. Honda wants to make sure that the compliance bushing (horizontal) not last too long so owners need to have them replace at the dealership.

  • @Crifstar

    The bolts holding the knuckle are not original parts, someone replaced them to do a wheel alignment because the bushing were worn and took the easy way out to get the toe back

      makes sense Thanks

      I just removed both knuckles on two different Elements. When I saw yours with lobes it really got me second guessing myself since neither of mine had them.
      Appreciate this getting cleared up.

    just turned in and heard the quote with alignment just over a $1000. Today that is cheap; parts would be that much

  • @1jackvalley580
    @1jackvalley580 Год назад

    A big saver as long as you're working on the suspension areas is to spray WD 40 on any and all rubber parts like rubber boots and many other parts,, it really helps to make the parts last much longer. Get on Scotty Kilmer auto website he shows tons of helpful hints to help keep auto parts lasting a lot longer with a little extra effort

    Im doing the same job. The harbor freight tool seems too big for the job. Wish I had an impact chisel.

    • @MrJayDM
      @MrJayDM  4 года назад

      The set had different sizes, you will need it to instal the ball joint as well. I wouldn't use an impact chisel to install the new ball joint.

    • @aaronpixler3842

      I was able to use it. I had to take the entire hub assembly off.

  • @bfarm44
    @bfarm44 Год назад

    Did mine on the car much easier than taking that all apart. The back pivot is a compliance bushing you don’t understand. Proper tools should take you an hour each side lower control arm, ball joint, anti sway bar link and tie rod end. Elements are like legos

    I have a 05 Crv and I get a vibration on the wheels at 20 mph when driving slowing I noticed the cv axels have a lit play on it but I don’t get no noise when turning or when I’m going to reverse nothing at all just know have some tires issues I think the tires are out balanced the weight on the tires fell off

    • @MrJayDM
      @MrJayDM  5 лет назад

      Yes out of balance wheels can cause vibrations. Also you said when slowing. Your brakes could also be the problem. Maybe a rotor is warped a little. ODK just a suggestion.

    • @thexflexclan
      @thexflexclan 5 лет назад

      Honda Budget Builders I know rotos are bad and I don’t I hear a humming noise since I rotate a tire so I gonna get new tires as well then check from the lift

    I did this job about 6 months ago and what a bear, I really struggled getting all those old parts off and just realized the control arm on the opposite side needs replacement, not looking forward to this job!

    • @MrJayDM
      @MrJayDM  4 года назад

      Its was definitely a pain in the a$$, I do not look forward to working on an element again. I think I'll stick with EF, EG and EKs. Its is always nice to work on something I'm not familiar with thought!!

  • @jamesguralski5156
    @jamesguralski5156 5 лет назад +1

    If the A arms are shot you can order new ones with the new ball joint. lot less work, folks!

    • @motleypixel
      @motleypixel 4 года назад

      The ball joint is on the spindle not the control arm. True though, if your model has the lower ball joint on the control arm then make sure it comes with one.

    • @harryl8234
      @harryl8234 2 года назад

      That might true, but the bushings and ball joints installed on these replacement control arms are not the best quality. It is better to buy and replace bushings and ball joints yourself with quality oem parts. There are lots cheap parts that don't last. Do the repair once with quality parts. Hate to do the job twice.
