No the Audi just got a big delay. That’s a problem with all Audi models. They just don’t respond that quick like for example an BMW or even Mercedes. So the BMW gets the jump over the Audi every single time.

Having driven both cars (daily life, not on a track), I can still say Q8 isn't that slow. I wonder what would happen if the drivers were switched. At a fraction before 2:40, the X5 has already sprung forward while the Q8 has barely moved. In the rolling test, the X5 clearly springs while the Q8 is still rolling for a tad longer. Obviously, this is just armchairing but interesting to see if swapped drivers has the same results.
I find this video pretty poor for comparison sake. Clearly Audi driver have no indication as to when you are about to accelerate. He's clearly responding after you WOT. From a neutral stand point this video could pass as a BMW promotional vid.

Got that 40i, my impression is that the new 3.0 engine is smoother than anything i ever driven, it's linearity in delivering power and torque to wheels is overhelming.
The b58 engine is a beast. I have one in my m240i. 60k miles and counting with no issues other than oil consumption. Throw a custom tune on it eventually and you’ll be happy. (:

The Q8 was reeling the X5 really hard on the roll. From a dead stop yeah the Q8 seems a bit lazy and the reaction from the driver was a bit slow as well.

I own an x5 40i and I've noticed it tends to short shift at times if the transmission mode is not on sport even if the drive mode is. This can be solved if both drive mode and transmission is on sport. And when the transmission is on sport on each upshift there's an exhaust burp and I love it. Oh, also the other reason for it short shifting could be simply becasue he let off the gas slightly

Switch drivers and see if the results are the same. The BMW driver always had a slight start before the audi driver. See if the BMW gets in the audi and the audi driver gets in the BMW to see if you get the same results
Hi Sam I would say it makes 335 its just the ratios on the gearboxes. Somehow BMW found a genius to help them sort out this mystery. We recently took some of these cars and checked them out on a Dyno. We found that BMW is getting way faster into torque than some of the other products out there. They are definitely doing something right. Another example is the M5 competition vs the C63. Both are equally matched on paper but somehow the BMW destroys the Mercedes due to the BMW's amazing ways to get the vehicle to produce Max torque asap. I am not a BMW fanatic but they are doing it right at the moment
- It is how BMW manages turbo lag the exhaust geometry using twin scroll turbo that fires in 153624 sequence eliminating all sorts of exhaust pulse overlaps improving turbo performance. Plus the superior heat management for the engine. There could be more but these 2 are key. A closed deck Inline 6 makes is very robust also
Really enjoying my 2021 X5! had it for over a year now, fun to drive great power from the 3.0-liter inline 6-cyl twin power turbo and the 48v mild-hybrid on 21's makes for a very smooth and fast acceleration! The Interior is also very well appointed with the 2 big screens and very comfortable Cognac leather seats make for a great place to be! Just hoping moving forward BMW stays focused on modernizing their great design heritage because the New X7 front end is awful!!!
Do you guys take into account the response times of the gearboxes on different modes? The first run shows the effect of the response times, which I feel affect the results of such races. Next time, do a launch control drag race
In addition to the BMW 3T being underrated ( I would say its closer to 360HP), the Audi is accurately rated at 335. Compounding that is a known complaint with the Audi engine: it really hesitates when floored, by about 2 seconds before the power is delivered. The race is decided by then. (And no, I don't mean waiting for Auto start/stop -this is when that 'feature' is off) Audi dealers insist that this is normal operation for the engine, and that their Q8 is not a performance vehicle but more subdued luxury.
@@evaristocorripio5434 If they can fix the turbo lag (different turbo unit, or a twin turbo with the initial being a small, fast spooling unit for off the line) it would be a real winner of an engine as I love how quiet it is. I actually prefer the Q8 (style, presence, huge back seat, amazing dash design) but went with the X5 due to the engine and cost advantage.

I actually have to agree with Audi on this one. It's not a performance vehicle. It's solely for luxury. If you want performance and luxury, that's why they offer the rs q8. Which eliminates the v6 for their V8 and almost doubled the power output to 591/590. I'm also shocked that Audi actually rated it for what it outputs. My MK7 GTI was underrated by about 30whp from the factory.
Nope X5 40i B58 is closer to 380hp, best inline six in the business. Even N55 was underrated in previous X5 which was 350hp in reality instead of 300hp rated on paper.
Im an audi guy but when it comes to suv, BMW nailed it. VW group would have to put up their Porsche SUvs against Bmw's , to make any head way, straight line wise
Audi supplies the Porsche V6 engines, so the performance would be the same. Porsche however supplies the V8 engines.. that would be a fun match up (with a BMW V8)

Just checked it does not have launch control as it’s a mhev and it puts to much strain on the battery to do so. So I think maybe this was a fair race. But you can always double check, I could be wrong.
I drive a Q8. The problem with this is that there a substantial delay between when you floor the pedal and when the car responds. At the same timeframe it should've been closer than this. The only thing I hate about the car.
BMW spanked the Audi hard. Maybe if you didn't have a 30 Gallon Aquarium in the passenger side door map pocket, things might have balanced out...2.53 of the video. Plus Sam's been on the Keto Diet and wearing the Titanium frame glasses to reduce weight.
Same here I have the Q8 Also , and it seems like the the Power just disappears when you need it to merge on a fast moving highway. But I’ll take my Q8 over The BMW any day. Just a better all around car.

I don’t own one but I do have a 21 m340 with the 382 hp B58. I regularly average about 26-27 mix of highway/city and spirited driving. On the highway, it averages closer to 32 at about 80-85

For the standstill launched start, the audi driver wasn't brake boost at all (i don't bet he knows even what is it, or what you told him to do), then for the roll "race" ..he still DIDN'T manage to floor-it at same moment as you did. So.. for me in not relevant at all, EVEN if i expect a bmw win for at least 3 reasons: 1- bmw dissconnect front axle after certin speed reached, so way less transmission lost - audi can't do that, because there's a REAL center diff (torsen), so it is REAL PERMANENT awd; 2: Faster gearbox, even if both are TCT, that on bmw manage to be better controlled from tcu; 3: Q8 is slightly heavy and even bmw got more hp than usually specifications claims.
I don’t think the Audi driver knows how to drag this rig. What’s with the give it rev’s let off the gas then go? Does the driver have it in Dynamic mode plus have the shift lever pulled back in Sport (2 step process - most people don’t know). Here’s the deal, if you want to fairly drag race these, you have to turn off the TC and stability controls…the Audi’s with quattro have always been slowed down by the ninnies off the line. The Audi has more torque so it should not be lagging from the start like this unless it’s restrained by the electronics. The commentator keeps talking about BMW 335 hp not being real, but he should know that it’s the torque that gets big SUV’s like these off the line. The X5 did not walk after off the line, so that tells me the hp is not the factor, it’s all in the start.
Nice, long time subscriber here, love the vids and you guys always choose good cars and matchups. One suggestion I have for the channel, I think you guys should update the graphics a bit. Like when it shows both car names and specs, the whole animation and style is a bit "outdated" and the moving/animated text gets annoying and the way it is just doesn't have a professional look to it. I think a more simple presentation of the specs would look a lot better. Just my opinion maybe it's not a big deal, just a suggestion I think would give your videos a bit of a more professional feel there.
The X5 has the " base " motor option ......... Love that inline 6, lots of silky smooth low end torque. Wonder how the Mercedes GLE 450 ( witch is an upgrade from the 350 4 cylinder comes as standard) inline 6 cylinder would compare to the X5

@@alexl.102 I have a B9 SQ5 and the best I did was 13.42s@102.6mph. I haven't been able to go below that. This is with normal street weight and 93 octane fuel and brake boosting (since the sq5 doesn't actually have LC). I know people with X3 M40is who have done the quarter mile in 12.8-13.1s@103-104.5mph under the same conditions as I. The 0-60 in an X3 M40i is much better than the SQ5 (which is why I believe it has a better quarter mile time). Post around 60mph, both pull the same. And yes. The glc43 AMG should be similar (probably in between the X3 M40i and SQ5). Would be nice to see them race.

I have 2022 X5 Xdrive 45E, and it is the beast, My 45E is faster than my buddy's xdrive 40i :)
At 100 mph the X5 is super smooth, feels like 70 mph. The Ultimate Driving Machine!

In addition to the BMW 3T being underrated ( I would say its closer to 360HP), the Audi is accurately rated at 335. Compounding that is a known complaint with the Audi engine: it really hesitates when floored, by about 2 seconds before the power is delivered. The race is decided by then. (And no, I don't mean waiting for Auto start/stop -this is when that 'feature' is off) Audi dealers insist that this is normal operation for the engine, and that their Q8 is not a performance vehicle but more subdued luxury.
Its called turbo lag, yeah its bad for the 3.0T v6 from Audi but I actually like it, like all the torque comes from nowhere 2 secs after.
@@evaristocorripio5434 If they can fix the turbo lag (different turbo unit, or a twin turbo with the initial being a small, fast spooling unit for off the line) it would be a real winner of an engine as I love how quiet it is. I actually prefer the Q8 (style, presence, huge back seat, amazing dash design) but went with the X5 due to the engine and cost advantage.
@@jimmehp2748 I know the 3.0T v6 because my parents have a 2018 audi s4,and love how the engine sounds, the turbo lag is bad but is sounds awesome. Launch control is a beast when the turbo is spooled!
I actually have to agree with Audi on this one. It's not a performance vehicle. It's solely for luxury. If you want performance and luxury, that's why they offer the rs q8. Which eliminates the v6 for their V8 and almost doubled the power output to 591/590.
I'm also shocked that Audi actually rated it for what it outputs. My MK7 GTI was underrated by about 30whp from the factory.
Nope X5 40i B58 is closer to 380hp, best inline six in the business. Even N55 was underrated in previous X5 which was 350hp in reality instead of 300hp rated on paper.
Im an audi guy but when it comes to suv, BMW nailed it. VW group would have to put up their Porsche SUvs against Bmw's , to make any head way, straight line wise
I have an A7 and I hate the measly 335hp it gets. So lame. Audi is #3 in power among the German automakers.
Audi supplies the Porsche V6 engines, so the performance would be the same. Porsche however supplies the V8 engines.. that would be a fun match up (with a BMW V8)

Just checked it does not have launch control as it’s a mhev and it puts to much strain on the battery to do so. So I think maybe this was a fair race. But you can always double check, I could be wrong.

I drive a Q8. The problem with this is that there a substantial delay between when you floor the pedal and when the car responds. At the same timeframe it should've been closer than this. The only thing I hate about the car.

Same here I have the Q8 Also , and it seems like the the Power just disappears when you need it to merge on a fast moving highway. But I’ll take my Q8 over The BMW any day. Just a better all around car.
@@mikehunt3204 for that, I frequent put my car in dynamic mode for highway. The thing I dislike most is the auto start stop and there's no way to permanently turn it off. FYI, I am a long time member on Audiworld forum, you can get a lot of good info there for the Q8. 👍

Must race in gear on the rolling race so the cars are ready to go because clearly the transmission in the bmw is better optimised with the engines.

I don’t own one but I do have a 21 m340 with the 382 hp B58. I regularly average about 26-27 mix of highway/city and spirited driving. On the highway, it averages closer to 32 at about 80-85

For the standstill launched start, the audi driver wasn't brake boost at all (i don't bet he knows even what is it, or what you told him to do), then for the roll "race" ..he still DIDN'T manage to floor-it at same moment as you did. So.. for me in not relevant at all, EVEN if i expect a bmw win for at least 3 reasons:
1- bmw dissconnect front axle after certin speed reached, so way less transmission lost - audi can't do that, because there's a REAL center diff (torsen), so it is REAL PERMANENT awd;
2: Faster gearbox, even if both are TCT, that on bmw manage to be better controlled from tcu;
3: Q8 is slightly heavy and even bmw got more hp than usually specifications claims.

I don’t think the Audi driver knows how to drag this rig. What’s with the give it rev’s let off the gas then go? Does the driver have it in Dynamic mode plus have the shift lever pulled back in Sport (2 step process - most people don’t know).
Here’s the deal, if you want to fairly drag race these, you have to turn off the TC and stability controls…the Audi’s with quattro have always been slowed down by the ninnies off the line. The Audi has more torque so it should not be lagging from the start like this unless it’s restrained by the electronics. The commentator keeps talking about BMW 335 hp not being real, but he should know that it’s the torque that gets big SUV’s like these off the line. The X5 did not walk after off the line, so that tells me the hp is not the factor, it’s all in the start.

Nice, long time subscriber here, love the vids and you guys always choose good cars and matchups. One suggestion I have for the channel, I think you guys should update the graphics a bit. Like when it shows both car names and specs, the whole animation and style is a bit "outdated" and the moving/animated text gets annoying and the way it is just doesn't have a professional look to it. I think a more simple presentation of the specs would look a lot better. Just my opinion maybe it's not a big deal, just a suggestion I think would give your videos a bit of a more professional feel there.
I agree. The animation is a bit choppy and seems like it came out of 2005. Something modern would be nice.

The problem with this Q8 was between its steering wheel and the driver's seat.
The X5 has the " base " motor option ......... Love that inline 6, lots of silky smooth low end torque. Wonder how the Mercedes GLE 450 ( witch is an upgrade from the 350 4 cylinder comes as standard) inline 6 cylinder would compare to the X5

True, i slightly powered it up with rather smooth powerbox by polish brand VTech and now with 390HP and 570Nm there is nothing to be compared, exept maybe superpower versions with v8 engines...

The x6 is the coupe version of the x5. The x7 would be comparable to the q7/q8. You should get a race with a macan s and sq5.
The X5/X6 is comparable to the Q7/Q8. The X7 is a bigger vehicle. Probably comparable to the upcoming Q8.
And yes. The SQ5 Vs Macan S will be interesting though the SQ5 will get spanked. I'd love to see an X3 M40i Vs Macan S too.
@@VeeElJay the sq5, macan and x3 all have similar trap speeds and quarter mile times. Would come to who gets off the line first. Would be fun to add in the glc43 amg too
@@alexl.102 I have a B9 SQ5 and the best I did was 13.42s@102.6mph. I haven't been able to go below that. This is with normal street weight and 93 octane fuel and brake boosting (since the sq5 doesn't actually have LC). I know people with X3 M40is who have done the quarter mile in 12.8-13.1s@103-104.5mph under the same conditions as I. The 0-60 in an X3 M40i is much better than the SQ5 (which is why I believe it has a better quarter mile time). Post around 60mph, both pull the same.
And yes. The glc43 AMG should be similar (probably in between the X3 M40i and SQ5). Would be nice to see them race.
