i've watched this movie. his life and many misterions arround him. his sadness his own loneliness, his addiction, his blues, his lies. the movie "let's get lost". don't miss it!
Chet's addiction was his illness, like Chopin had TB. Aside from that, the consequences too heavy to bear, to merit reflection.
When he started singing this sad song, I felt tears welling up, it was so powerful. I could feel the emotion. This is a real artist. The film was brilliant and then the ending was devastating. I was stunned because the film was like he said, like a dream. Maybe life is just a dream, like the song! We feel it and live it and then go to sleep. It all just passes us by. Like a Dream.

I thought it was one of those old torch songs from, like, the '40s or whenever they used to write those old-style slow songs, well before Elvis Costello's time, even before he was born. I was surprised to learn that "angry young man," Pump It Up, new wave Elvis Costello had written it. From Armed Forces rockers to these jazzy, mellow torch songs that old jazz singers would sing. Artists even your parents wouldn't be into. Who'd-a thunk it?

Oh the blues , so beautiful, so deep within the depth of our souls we feel exactly what their singing. I love jazz but Chet was so rare a singer, even when he got older using drugs still had that thickness, that voce that you could cut like butter. whew soft & rich at once. he's is a wonderful remembered musician

"Let's Get Lost" is a jazz standard with music written by Jimmy McHugh and lyrics by Frank Loesser. It's also the title of the documentary movie made about Baker's career, ending with his suicide in May of 1988, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

When I got home it struck me that I forgot to visit Chet's plaque at the Hotel Prins Hendrik. Luckily two years after that I was back again. R.I.P. Chet

When he lost his teeth he stopped playing.

Elvis Costello said, after hearing Chet Baker’s version: ”It’s his song now. I just wrote it”. I made that up, actually, but that’s what he should have said. Who actually said that was Trent Reznor about Johnny Cash’s version of ”Hurt”.
I mean he said he wrote it inspired by him and hoped he would cover it so I think it is implied he is cool with it. I’m pretty sure he is.

Think about it this way: He was gifted with musical genius; he developed a unique way of expressing it; he moved millions. On the whole, despite the horrific times, he came out way ahead.
