It's because you keep finding halal food carts. You need to find an old school sabrett's cart. A classic New Yorker would be mustard sauerkraut and onion sauce
I have a couple of hotdog carts in Michigan! All beef dirty water dogs then grilled is the best! And you’re right, there is just something nostalgic about getting a dog from a street cart! Great video Ben!
You’re not wrong. There are a lot of stands that have a little of everything. But the OG hog dog only stands still exists. Price ranges are really wide. You kind of have to live here to know the good ones (not tourist traps). I have some that I really love. $2.50 a hot dog. Cash only. Nathan’s is not dirty water, but it’s solid. You should try to find an old school dirty water hot dog cart. DM me if you want a few reccos.
My Canadian ass had to google what dirty water meant cause I literally thought what gave the NYC hotdogs their charm was that they were cooking them in ACTUAL dirty water😂😅! Honestly sometimes them dirty hole in the wall places make the best food and I never question their practices cause I don’t get sick and the food is banging😛.
Its overpriced, but still the same qaulity food. Dont go to tourist trap Food stands like Times Sqaure or near heavily populated areas that tourists usually see.
My new favorite thing is Currywurst, sliced up fried knockwurst tossed in a curry sauce. Total fire. My favorite hot dog is a Seattle Dog or a Hot Link with fresh chopped onion, sourkrout, with spicy brown mustard and ketchup. Definitely chili cheese dogs with chopped onion as well.
@thecrowing1989 I live in the States so I watched RUclips to learn how to make my own. I love it with pasta, rice, on a brioche bun or just by itself. It's fairly simple to make and pairs good with just about any Hot Link, Sausage or Hot Dog.
Those onion rings definitely look like they were fried fresh, usually if they are re fried they would look dark and taste bitter. And often the batter is more soggy because the oil has more of a chance to get inside the ring.
You should try Skyline Chili they are slowly fading out but I love them. I get a coney dog extra cheese but most of their stuff is good. Love from Columbus, OH
🌭Love seeing the hotdog stand! My favourite is a beef hotdog with it split down the middle halfway through. Then fill it with cream cheese, add regular mustard and a little relish.
Dirty water hot dog carts still exist. This cart is specifically Nathan's hot dogs and they always griddle their dogs and not boil. Famous Coney Island dogs.
dude, there's a guy on youtube that goes around trying the dogs from carts around the city! he's pretty spot on with his reviews. chris' nyc hot dog stands & more is the name of his channel
As a native New Yorker I miss the old hot dog stands, I always pass the Nathan’s stand and get tempted to try. After watching this I think I’ll try two hot dogs.
The spicy mustard with kraut is the traditional NY hotdog. I'm kinda curious what it would taste like if you substituted the kraut for thinly sliced kimchi. It's kind of the same idea, but with added spice.
Gotta go to long island city piers by gantry park, its a beautiful view that overlooks the city and they have a cluster of food trucks there. You should try it dude, Queens has a lot of good food spots. One if not the most diverse neighborhoods in the world.
