What is all this production value I'm seeing here!? In 2023, at the age of 40, it's only today that I learned this remake was released back in 1991. Super cool this exists. Maybe it's my Nostalgia Goggles but I think I prefer the original graphics and keyboard inputs. The enhanced visuals feel a bit soulless by comparison. Pointing and clicking the mouse is certainly superior in one way. No more guessing via text EXACTLY what the game wants you to type. However, I feel a bit of interactivity disappears when you are no longer controlling the protagonist on foot via keyboard, rather clicking "go here." Anyhow, thanks for reading my Ted Talk and thanks for sharing this video!
Same here. I played the old version back in the days. Never knew there's a remake. I remember I got stuck at some point because I didn't know what to type or do. I think I was 13 years old, when I played this game, and English is not my 1st language. Space quest was also a fun game to play back in the days.
I just made popcorn. I can’t wait to watch this!! I had forgotten that give game existed....man I LOVED THIS GAME SO MUCH. Sierra was the shit back in the day. Larry and Space quest were just as awesome. It’s gonna be a great snowstorm tonight baby!! Thanks for the video dude!!!!!!
2:58 Sonny unlocks the locker, the other guy is taking a shower. Sonny changes clothes, takes a bath, wears his uniform and leaves. The other guy is still taking a shower! Oh these civil servants....
I love this game, it has so much heart and was written with the help of a real policeman. The way police procedure leads to small incidents into the big ones is really how crimes unfold most of the time. A bit exaggerated in place, but they really don't make them like this anymore
The 3 first one were. I love it alot. But oof they were so hard : o i think i soft locked myself in Police Quest 2, and 3rd i havent beaten yet. But really love these games, the graphics and such
there's tragic history on this game how it's existed and made with al lowe involved, basically the original creator on this game is real cop idk what his name is, well let's just say the guy seen better days. he suffered post-traumatic event where the criminal almost shot him when his seat belt stuck to his police car. the guy was so scared of being a cop he quit the force and struggle almost all his life, somehow this game kind of give him a break on "struggling". skip few decade this game has evolved into SWAT series although i only played the 4th game it's still intriguing ip that can't easily forgotten.
@@SantomPh he actually had a 15 year career and by all accounts, he was a good cop. These days, you'd get disability retirement or at least put into an Employee Assistance program. Back in the 80s, most police departments weren't aware of what stress really could do to you. Everyone has a breaking point. Jim's was almost getting his ticket punched because he couldn't get his belts undone. It was that close.
I hope we get to see a Telltale-like remake of this series, kinda like what they did with King’s Quest. Also, I’d like it if they did one for Space Quest!
The first scene in Sonny's hotel room was a bit rushed. Just walking right to the phone and calling for the cab? I never did that. You did have the option of talking to Marie and saying "I like you a lot, and don't think I wouldn't love to, but I have to stay focused on the operation." She understood.
Don't some real life police stations actually have their officers play this as a form of training? I.E. it safely shows them the consequences of not observing proper police procedure.
It was something we all heard about back in the 80s. But that rumor was mostly bullshit. The training videos where they interviewed cops who survived shootouts and stabbings and other assorted misfortunes were a lot more effective in teaching good tactics.
@@bigdrew565 I did speak to an OPP detective in Ontario, Canada a couple years ago and he confirmed he played the Police Quest games on his own time to help him prepare to be a cop. He said he remembered the games fondly and said other cops he knew played the games also. But I don't think it was officially used to train them.
Dilandau3000 played the series several years ago but chose not to do the remake because he doesn't like it. I wish he had because the game is extremely superior.
I've got mixed impressions of the new art style, but consider game one superior to game three in every way. All three games are cop simulators, but the first in particular has enough wacky charm to offset that and keep it fun. That makes a BIG difference!
28:17 Ungrateful Carol! Gives him 10% off on some crummy pie for getting rid of a motorcycle gang :D He deserved a whole lunch on the house for doing that Haha

The map was a helpful view of driving in this early game from the late 1980s. It's amazing that they removed the map from driving in the later Police Quest games, then blame you when you fly over the kerb at the end of the road. Weird.
This brings back some memories. After all those years I still remember @20:30 that part with th blond girl. 😀 24:32 Although I'm not sure that's a good thing to do, but you can give those bikes a domino push.
55 is _really_ fast to be driving down city streets. 35 or 40 would be much more realistic. Also, the Miranda Warning only needs to be spoken to a suspect before an interrogation, not just an arrest.
The Police Quest VGA remake was the one I was most disappointed with. First, Jim Walls had already left the company and if I recall he’s not even given any mention in the credits. Second, the bartender Woody Roberts was replace by some chick friend of Marie. Woody turned up dead in the trunk of a car in Police Quest 2, so re-writing my history makes that death appear random…

Pretty cool remake. But what about kisses with Sweet Cheeks? And the trial for Bains before celebrating? They could have included those also. And the poker game - I suppose you can play it or skip it if u want? I also liked some added comments and actions like the hit with nightstick.

@Cinnamon Troll Idk about the remake, but the original game takes place between 1983-1987, and Sonny Bonds is said to be born in the 50s...so that would make him probably from mid to late 20s. Jim Walls was the cop's name.
that's Jim Wallis, he plays the cop that stands on the car and tells you how you effed up each time you die or fail in PQ3
