I installed 2 OneUp components droppers this summer on two different mtb bikes. I needed one with the shortest insertion length to fit a small frame, and OneUp had the shortest out there I could find, it worked perfectly. they also make a 210mm dropper now. crazy stuff.
I'm running a Bike Yoke Revive in my Large 2019 Stumpjumper. At 185mm of travel, I still have 2-3 inches of post sticking out of my frame before the post collar. I got me some long legs XD Love your videos Jeff! Keep em coming!
A couple of other things you can try to get a couple of mm is go with shorter cranks and/or thicker pedals. I run a bike yoke revive 125mm on my HD3 size medium. At the time the revive 125 had the shortest stack height of any 125mm droppers on the market. I have mine slammed all the way and is just perfect for my 30" inseam.
Very true re:crank length and pedals, I wanted to include those tips in the video but simply ran out of time. Didn't realize the Bike Yoke was known for a short stack height, I don't know much about those but have heard good things!
In my first ever youtube video I made a dropper seat post height limiting strap out of 1/16th cable and some ferrels for my wifes bike. Really simple to make and doesnt take away from the bike.
We used to do that BITD with traditional posts so we could use a QR and then yank up till the slack ran out , and thatd be our XC height. I didn't even consider that for this application though, I wanted something a bit more clean.
I have a Large Bronson v3 and run a 170 one up post. post can't be slammed do to the Chunnel and Cable location but that's fine as I need to raise it a bit over max insertion anyway.
Thanks Jeff! I've been wanting to fit a 170mm dropper onto my Med 19 Bronson, but I have a short inseam and with the 150mm Transfer, the seat collar is too tall to where even with the seat slammed I can barely touch the ground. I'd love to have a shorter collar with more extension. Thanks for explaining the math so I can shop around :)
Thanks Bryan! I'm not sure how to space down the Transfer, I actually pulled my wife's Transfer off in order to install the PNW post. With the internal routing on the Bronson you should be able to use the One Up system to get a really precise amount of drop. Cheers!
Cheers mate, I can't (won't) afford any of the fancy stuff you have here but CRC have some cheap droppers that might work on my hardtail. Trouble is the bike itself is a shade too big at 19" frame, ideally I should have a 17" to be able to chuck it around a bit, such is life though aye!
Do you need the shim kit to cut the seat post? Just bought a used PNW Pine and it's too long. I'm a newbie and just figured it out. I don't mind cutting it since I got it for about $80 but if I need the shim kit, it's a moot point until I can get my hands on this little piece of plastic.
Trying to make a post go longer than its intended design? That's sketchy. It would flex more than normal and you'd literally need to weld in more material to make it possible.
Hey Jeff, my 2017 Marin Rift Zone 7 has 6” of full insertion length. I am trying to find external routing dropper post that will work with that Max insertion length. Any idea?
Not all modern mtb are designed to take a dropper post lol.. I have a 2021 polygon xtrada 6 The prob is there isnt any hole for internal dropper post. And the seat tube cage bottle mount make the standard seatpost bottoms out on it meaning most dropper post are longer than the standard seatpost insertion. And what was polygon thinking about 27.2mm internal diameter seatpost tube? Plus max travel on the dropper for 27.2 is 125mm travel
I’m new to MTB, and need help in order to find the right dropper post for my Giant stance xs frame. I have gone to multiple bike shops and none are able to tell me which one will fit. Could someone please help. Thanks in advance 😅
I want a 170 dropper, could fit a 150 but at min insurtion. Anyhow they're so expensive and then I read about them going slow and seizing up or levers breaking etc. I guess you need to service them regularly. I'd be pissed off spending £150 and it breaks
I think I may be one of very Few avid mountain bikers that still does not have a droopper lol my currant Frame has droopper routing I just can not afford one yet..
Why not just find one that worked without the hack? she isn't a sponsred rider so you could have bought a different brand correct? or was there no other brand that would have worked?
Because there isn't a stocker post that is within our price range that is about this length, hence the hack. The stock 100mm Fox post was WAY too long.
There is a SUBSTANTIAL price difference between the $200 PNW offering and the $450 KS Ci. I figured for that difference, and 10mm more drop, my hack would be a great first attempt.
I fully support this hack! I may or may not have shaved 7mm off my carbon seat tube to get the right seat height for my dropper. :)
Hahaha nice! The seat tube shave trick won't work on all bikes though. I saw World Wide Cyclery's vdeo about this years ago as well.
Always good to test hacks on your wife's bike! :D
LOL she requested and needed it! Excited to hear her test ride reports!

Right on Jamtrax, One Up makes good stuff!

Killing it!
Best dropper post vid..

Running 200 mm 9point8 dropper on my Ripmo. That seat tube is crazy short!
Now that's a hack!
Hahaha indeed- a mini dropper!

Ancient History at this point haha.
But i just put a 240mm oneup on my Norco
Clever and great for me who is right on the edge of 125 / 150 mm :D
I was actually at Jenson site and checking out a PNW Bachelor. I was wondering I should get 170 or 150. This is helpful. Thanks
Right on Woods- check out the longest drop you can fit on your bike, you'll likely be happiest that way. Cheers!
PNW Bachelor 170 with loam lever on size large Santa Cruz 5010. Could have for more drop if it was offered...no regrets, works flawlessly
Boom! That's the same set up I have on my Ripmo and both HD4s. Nice!
I know a couple of ladies who ride small Ripley LS and they run 100mm ks lev post without issue

what?..what year is this?
I thought you where going to cut the seat tube 😂😂😂
Hahaha that's one option but it won't actually help in this scenario!
Jeff from world wide cyclery did that a while back🤣
170 mm all the way in on strive xl,i love it
Just got the 170 mm One up Components dropper on my Mojo 3 as to replace the 125 mm Race Face Turbine. Love it so far!
Right on Mat, I've heard good things about the One Up stuff as well.

Okay how to Do it the other way around? Any thoughts?

Nice video! What shoes do you use for clips

I have 100m on a lg Niner jet 9 carbon. bottomed out on the frame, fulley Extended fits me perfectly at 5'10. lucky.
Ah yes, the fully bottomed seat post that fits perfectly, I know the drill well myself!

125mm, should have fit a 150mm but it was my first time with a dropper...live and learn.
Alas, life will go on! First world problems eh?
To bad you couldn't just get a KS Lev Ci in the 65mm drop and likely still routed it correctly...
