Even the valve lifter is a work of art. I for one would like to see a video just showing all the aspects of this car from an engineering point of view. I know some things about it, but not much.
Great stuff, I did not realise Paul Emery built single seaters, you have got to get this one sorted, and you will. I bought an Imp front wheel de-cambering kit from him in about 1970, a simple very clever idea, just lower the front wishbone pivot points, I had so much grip at the front I spun it twice. You are right don't copy the others ,be original, you learn more.
Yes I went to Paul Emery at Putney, London, and the kit was so simple I could correct the camber angle easily in the street, no garage or workshop, just a bit of spanner work. But I must add, Ivan is great, no edge, just do it, a great person, thanks Ivan.
The video seemed seamless.I'd never have guessed it was shot over months.Imagine my surprise when the Front wheels spun up and not the rear. This is my 1st time seeing an Emeryson, and hadn't the slightest clue about their workings.Thank you for sharing it with us.Cheers to everyone.
I’m also 71 years old and want to be just like you when I grow up Ivan! You remind me very much of the great motorbike-head and all-round engineer Allen Millyard (aka Caractacus Potts!) and your mate John is like Allen’s associate Henry Cole! A great pairing!
I remember Emeryson making news in the Motoring News in the sixties. I recall a twin engined mini among other things he devised. Interesting your comment on mag flux and the offsetting of the wheel arrangement on the Vauxhall. You fascinate as always.
We hag the same issue with a Yamaha TZ700 4 cylinder motorcycle engine in a race car. Solved the problem by using a chain drive to the crankshaft and a sprague clutch on the crank. Worked a treat
Great video from team shed racing again. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. You’re getting a bit cheeky with your grin to the camera John, more of that please, it made me laugh. Keep up the good work everyone.
These videos are inspired Ivan. Love watching you doing this stuff, and admire the engineering pragmatism, particularly enjoyed the prototype A Series Mini twin engine you resurrected 👍🏻
The competitive spirit is alive and thriving in Ivan and with the experience and support of John a team of two is all it will take to win. Keep it lite Ivan !!!!!!
After seven months of working on my race Austin sprite mk1, I finally got it to start and run. It was a loose connection in the Chrysler electronic ignition system that initially worked and then didn’t. What a hoot when that beast fired up. Cherry bomb muffler alongside passenger door. Great satisfaction obtained from those projects.
A true racer never asks what time scrutineering opens, only what time it closes. Never knew you did touring cars back in the day. Speaking of Novas, there is a young chap by the name of Phill Tucker, hillclimbing a very quick 1400cc one. The next generation has arrived.
Please show loads more of your development of this car! And if you ever take it to Prescott or Wiscombe make sure you give us some advanced notice 👍 Superstar!
Great stuff. Id love to see what you could do now with a capri for historics. I remember your exploits with your capri and nova and what appeared to be various p..ed off parties with your results.
I've recently designed and built an electric starter system for a customer's Manx Norton engined BSA Goldstar project. I couldcsend a few pictures if you'd like. He's a mate as well as a customer. When I set up I use a pointer for roughing and whatever dti given the required level of accuracy. Sadly I'm packing up the little engineering company I built with my partner as it's no longer economically viable in the uk. Apparently, according to a friend it's because men tend not to believe that women are good machinists. No mind, I have one hell of a workshop for my own projects and a customer was saying the other day when I dropped off his job, he uses me because I get the job right and he's fed up of other companies cocking up.
Decades back, I had a Simplicity brand lawn-tractor powered by a 1-cyl flathead B&S engine, perhaps 40ci/650cc? B&S wasn't fitting electric start, so Simplicity bracketed a small US GM Delco DC generator and always-on V-belt-drive. Maybe 8:1 pulley ratio? (So it had to be small to stand the RPM.) No compression release (true, maybe just 6:1 compression ratio). With engine running it made more than enough electricity. When starting it made barely enough torque to take the piston over the top. When damp I had to lean on the slipping V-belt. But mostly entirely satisfactory, entirely standard parts and strap/scrap iron, and probably lasted forever (it was 30 years old when I sold it and left town).
Always very interesting to watch. I have a question. Ivan has a 1959 Morris Mini Minor and also a 1959 Austin Seven. I would like to see the Austin appear in a video some day.
My Riley came with a 'modified' magneto where some had tried to widen the slot that controls the advance/retard to get more advance from it. My rebuilder told me that won't work since the internals just won't allow more. That flux you talk about. You can only adjust the mag so much before it stops sparking altogether.
i'm wondering if it's a true magneto, or an energy transfer ignition, internal stator coil feeding an external ignition. peak voltage timing to breaker opening.
Did any body catch the sly smurc from young John?? It reminded me of Muttly from the Whacky Races! Bloody brilliant. That dates me though. I think having a John in the tool box would be such an advantage. Oh the tears of laughter. Best wishes from the Forest of Blackness. Mike.
old school mates, not "old" school mates, I mean "old school" mates, from the day, how old school? welp, his race car just got a self starter that sorta tells you how just old school... gotta cherish these guys while we still can fellas, fewer and fewer every day
There was a guy who lived at the bottom of our street he was a BSA restorer I was going past and saw a DBD34 , I stopped for a chat he had restored it for the owner an old man who could not kick it over so he made a electric start for it , he used a Kawasaki starter motor , that's as much as I LOL .
Sounds like the ring gear is kissing the pinion. It will mill the pinion if your not careful. I designed starters for Lucas for 10 years and it could be a problem.
I want to hear more about Ivan's adventures with Suzuki Swifts please. I had a 1994 Swift GT with a modified suspension and steering. I did a few autocrosses with it. Thank You
I really want to design and build a engine before I check out. I really like the old engines , and really would like to build a two seat car like this for the street. Even casting a engine . Maybe build a Small 6cyl engine 1000 cc roughly, and use motorcycle heads. Either go long stroke or big bore, and install oversize valves in the heads, also port them. Possibly using cbr1000 heads , and weld two together in a line of six, running bores as large as the heads can allow. With a specific grind cam with more lift and duration. Looking for 220+/- 10 psi for naturally breathing engines, and 180-200 for boosted. Build a custom gear box, with 8-9 gears with skip shift in mind, and 2-3 overdrive ratios, starting with about .15:1, then .30 and .60:1 to prevent a bog in overdrive. With something like 3" bore, and 2" stroke, building a cross plane V8 would be cool using a pair of 1000cc heads maybe the larger heads around 1300cc , maybe custom heads, a 4"; bore with 2.375"and another with 2.75" stroke, with overhead cam 4 valve heads, running 6" rods , and a cast steel crank possibly, 10k rpm should be nothing, possibly peak at 12-14, for the short stroke also possibly build a large twin boxer 6"-6.625"Bore, and 6" stroke, maybe a 4cyl boxer of this style 4 valve ohc. Or Dohc. With a 6speed gear box. 3rd being 1:1, the rest overdrive with fairly close ratio. The engine being done around 4k rpm possibly Making 600 ftlbTQ, anyway, sorry to ramble, Have a awesome day 🎉
Ivan, i am 71 years old and I want to be like you when I grow up!
Me too! 71, growing older but not up!

I am 61 and I am like Ivan, so I guess there’s not much hope for me 😟
Sounds like a lawnmower with a bicycle bell. Makes me happy to see Ivan tooling around.
You look 30 years jounger boss driving that roller skate ! It must be great to be 90 again !!😎🍾
Clangs more than Notre Dame Cathedral;....almost a shame to fix it! A joy to watch....Thanks, Ivan.
Once again, what's not to like. I love the scene dressing by way of an old mangle over Ivan's left shoulder.
I thought he might be "taking in washing" to get some money to keep going.
Best anti crash device ever , have the fuel tank as the bumper 😮
Great job Tania
You're having too much fun, Ivan. Keep going.
That's a dream garage car right there.
Some people stay with cyclekart, this man made a real gp car
It's really good to see the girls giving support. It is terrific to see these old machines and the stories that go with them. Thanks to all of you.
you are a legend great footage and always so informative can i adopt you as my grandfather
It's great to see two vids in one week, Ivan. I'm glad to see you are well.
In almost every episode I see stuff I've never had the opportunity to see before. Cheers from my shed
A bit of fun Ivan. Always good to see John and Suzie.
Best wishes, Dean.
It's interesting sound with bell ringing. This is the real mechanic sound.
What a legend I'd love to have his knowledge never get bored of listening to Ivan 👍
6:53 Wonder of wonders, John gave us a smile! Don't blink, you'll miss it.
Even the valve lifter is a work of art. I for one would like to see a video just showing all the aspects of this car from an engineering point of view. I know some things about it, but not much.
This would be amazing
Nice smile/grin , John.
Patience is a virtue.
gary in japan.

There was a clue when he said they had to lift the front wheel to start it.
Calling the starter a “ self starter “ real old school , an Excellent and interesting video, thank you.
Thank you Tanya loved the video i have no doubt that Shed Racing will sort out the Emeryson then the fun will start.
Suzy got a haircut! looks great!
ya'll are truly the epitomy of a mechanic! only one even close is d3shooter.
Just stumbled upon this channel.
Feels like I took a nosedive into an episode of The Fast Show.
Just oodles of fun. 👍🍻
Still a teenager at heart I see :)

I love how giggling while doing donuts is a universal thing.
I remember Emeryson making news in the Motoring News in the sixties. I recall a twin engined mini among other things he devised. Interesting your comment on mag flux and the offsetting of the wheel arrangement on the Vauxhall. You fascinate as always.
I worked on the twin engined Mini in the 60s at Aspenlea Road
The gear change as operated hydraulically
Fantastic, those 500cc racers look to be a blast. Hope you keep making videos as you progress this car.
I am an amateur machinist. I see that John is very skilled. You are lucky to have him. I also enjoy your narration so much. Thank you!
Young John please - he's only a young bloke in his 50's like me ! But yes very skilled & excellent ability to improvise using the equipment they have
Great video as always Ivan. Can we have one on the Bentley !
Gosh I think our John smiled then what a surprise I had 😂
We hag the same issue with a Yamaha TZ700 4 cylinder motorcycle engine in a race car. Solved the problem by using a chain drive to the crankshaft and a sprague clutch on the crank. Worked a treat

Well done to you all .brilliant video
Once again you nailed the content. Totally watchable and informative.
Great to see you all living a dream life , makes me smile , good health to you all
Just Love this car, your work is outstanding and your knowledge is so impressive, love your videos Ivan, just keep on keeping on my friend!👍🇦🇺🇬🇧😎🏁
Watching your post pop up on You Tube is a breath of fresh air.Thank you Ivan and team for another wonderful post👍❤️
These videos are inspired Ivan. Love watching you doing this stuff, and admire the engineering pragmatism, particularly enjoyed the prototype A Series Mini twin engine you resurrected 👍🏻

Love this little single seater.
Absolutely fascinating, love the channel and love Ivan. Great content as always🚙💨🏎

How have I missed this video!! That is a awesome looking machine! That would make a awesome street car!
Love the shout out to Allen.
Sounds like a Himalayan rally stage with all the jangling good job on the starter 👍🏼

Love that one cylinder thump...
It's no motorcycle, but that sound is unmistakable!
Great work Ivan!🇺🇸🎩🇺🇸
It's a great looking car with a decent chassis, you should have fun.
Good to see, it’s been too long!
Fantastic Ivan. Such a col car mate. I look forward to it progress 👍
Enjoyed this love seeing Ivan and John work together is like seeing Wallace and Gromit made real,
I get so excited when a new video is released. And this one is another winner in its own unique way. Cheers!
Another great vid Ivan! A challenge as normal. Well done to you and John, and Tanya putting it all together!
You guys did a great job getting it started on its own. I would love to see how you get it sorted out. Good Luck with it!
Please show loads more of your development of this car! And if you ever take it to Prescott or Wiscombe make sure you give us some advanced notice 👍 Superstar!
It's absolutely super cool!
This channel is simply amazing.

Was laughing because his voice sounds like Malcolm McLaren on God Save the Queen 🤷♂️
Thank you Ivan, John and Tanya. An excellent video. I look forward to the updates.

What a lovely car love it
Wisdom experience cunning and king you are
I didn't know this type of lawnmower 😄
Fantastic, thank you
How good is that , I’m sure my friends brother used to work for Paul Emery back in the day
Nice job.
Great stuff
The fastest man alive ❤
Allen could figure this out by tea time and double the cylinder count by dinner
Brilliant thanks team

Hi Ivan, can you kindly give us more detail about the front wheel drive please, also have you considered reducing the rear axle width.
br Peter
Sounds like my dads lawn mower 😂 but will be great fun once you get it running right 👍
A race tuned Suffolk Punch or a gas flowed Atco?🤣
I had that annoying ching ching noise on an A35. Shortened the pinion throw out and it was fine after that.
Beautiful automobile.
Too much fun! The Ministry of Mandatory Misery will not be pleased! Expect a visit any time.
Motorized wind chimes😅looks fun.

Didn't he say he couldn't afford one ?
yes get milly on to it he will fix it proper.
Fantastic video, love your content! Can I ask how you record the audio? And how do you sync to the video? Many thanks
Thanks
What a thing!
Was this the car formerly owned and raced by the well known F3 500 racer Tim Cameron?
I hope this gentleman doesn’t smoke, sounds like he’s still needed 😏
Thats a great car. Perfect if ya like to tinker with them. Just needs sorting. What fuel are you running ? Keep at it,,,Izzy,,,
Coolest grandpa ever......
Holy smokes! Tell me that's not the gas tank on the nose? Where's the radiator?

You should put a hot 2 stroke engine in it.
