Rare, natural, and unique fluorescent opal cut and polished by Steve Moriarty. This gem is from Zacatecas, Mexico and came out to weigh 7.27 carats! It was cut into a shield shape. This faceted rock really glows in sunlight and direct UV light!

What a beautiful opal! Given a choice between Australian opal and Hyalite opal, radioactive or not, I'd choose the Hyalite.

You can get them fairly cheap, I got one that was around .6 carat for 155 on etsy. Its shaped like the sims plumbob, pretty neat.

Predator.Beatz - the glow comes from a long wave or short wave uv light source. Not only that but this particular source will glow in daylight from the uv from sunlight. That being said, I do not believe that these have much (if any) phosphorescence.

Would love to know what kind of UV light you guys used to show off the stone's fluorescence! Wanting to start collecting Fluorescent rocks, but I heard that cheaper UV/Black lights won't typically make the rocks glow like that.
The best one we have come across is called the Convoy long wave UV flashlight. -- If you get more serious about collecting fluorescent minerals, you may want to invest in a shortwave UV lamp as well, but those are a bit more pricey and bulky than the current long wave flashlights that are available today. www.naturesrainbows.com/ is a good resource for info on fluorescent gems and minerals.
