In light of a recent comment left by a viewer on May 3, 2009, viewers should be aware that there is a lot of erroneous information about Keith's bio, most notably the bio on CMT.com, which is chock full of glaring errors. Keith's given name at birth was JACKIE Keith Whitley, not Jesse Keith Whitley. Jesse Keith Whitley is the biological son of Jackie Keith Whitley and Loretta Lynn "Lorrie" Morgan, born in 1987. Jackie Keith Whitley was born in Kings Daughters Hospital in Ashland, KY on July 1, 1954, the son of the late Elmer Jackson Whitley and Nannie Faye Ferguson Whitley. Back when Keith was lead singer for J. D. Crowe and the New South in the late 1970's and early 1980's, he found he had lost his birth certificate, and he needed one for his passport. So when he received his new one from Frankfort, it came back with the wrong birth date, July 1, 1955. All this information was given to me by his mother during a phone conversation I had with her in 1991. I'm sure Lorrie knew his real birthdate, but why she insisted on putting the wrong one on his tombstone no one seems to know. If you need more proof, I have a digital copy of his original birth announcement provided to me by the Whitley family with his birth date, place of birth, and birth weight. If you need a copy of this, send me a message.
This Paul Overstreet/Don Schlitz-penned gem was Keith's 2nd straight #1 song and the second single from his 1988 album "Don't Close Your Eyes." Keith's original stayed at #1 in the US for 2 weeks at the end of 1988. Allison Krauss covered the song in 1995. While Krauss' version was on the charts, Mike Cromwell, then the production director at WMIL-FM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, concocted a duet merging elements of Krauss' version with Whitley's original hit version. The "duet" garnered national attention, and it spread from at least Philadelphia to Albuquerque. It was never officially serviced to radio and has never been available commercially. Krauss' recording won the 1995 CMA award for "Single of the Year". Then in 2004 Keith's version was #12 on the list of CMT's 100 Greatest Love Songs of All Time.

I was fortunate enough to meet Keith back in the mid to late 80s. And actually worked on his 380sl Mercedes in Nashville at an Independent shop. This Guy was as nice of a guy that you would ever meet. . He finally told me he was a songwriter and that he wrote Miami My Amy.Then i knew who he was!! His Passing was a tragedy.Terrible things happen to good people! And this is the best song ever! R.I. P Keith Whitley and God Bless!

He told me that I was his first Love! We been talking about how thing's ended and we now know what all happened and how each other really felt. He was the first boy to ever give me courage. And now he's back in my life when I need Courage again!!! My ex husband is really messed up and has been addicted to drugs since the mid 90s. Being in contact with my first boyfriend again and finally saying screw what people think ... I'm going to heal my own way! I'm finally feeling that I could actually Fall in love again ... or maybe just fall back in love with my old Boyfriend! Which is a big deal. Because I've never felt love in 15 years!

I was a USMC recruiter assigned to Muskogee, OK. in the L8 '80s, when county" was starting to explode into "mainstream" popularity. I spent a ridiculous number of hours a week in my car driving to the high schools in my assigned sector. I heard a lot of the male"hat acts", but Allison Krause became a favorite. Never heard of Kieth Whitley until recently. I like him, it's a shame he drank himself to death. @ least it wasn't heroin or crack, like the rockers die from abusing.

The fact that this mix could be done is a tribute to how true she was to his version of this song. She did an amazing cover and the 2 together are phenomenal. Super job bringing these voices together. They would have made beautiful music together.

Keith Whitley is my favorite country singer of all time. And im really more into rock and roll, but i grew up listening to a lot of country. Keith wasnt one if them i growed up to listening to though. I heard his songs on the radio though and loved his music from the get. The first song that got me listening was (IM OVER YOU). from then i was addicted to his sound.

So, I searched “Randy Travis and Allison Krauss duet. And I wasn’t the 1st one who did. Obviously because Keith Whitley and Randy sound so much alike. I hadn’t heard this song since I was a child, so this entire time I still thought it was Randy Travis. And I also never knew the duet wasn’t real, either. Haha. It’s amazing by the way!
